Pvt Thomas Died Christmas Day in Action, Belgium
Mrs. Inez Thomas of Pool's Tourist camp, who since last August has been making her home in Montrose, was advised Monday afternoon of the death in action of her husband, Pvt. Howard W. Thomas, who was killed Christmas day in Belgium.
Besides his wife, the young soldier, who was about 24 years of age, leaves two small daughters, Janet, 4, and Sharon, 2. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thomas of Holyoke, Colo., also survive. Two brothers, both in service, are George Thomas, merchant marine, and Morgan Thomas, who is in the army and understood to be still in this country. A sister is Mrs. Opal Cramer of Holyoke.
Pvt. Thomas went into the army about a year ago from Salida, in Chaffee county. He was sent overseas last August and after landing in England had served in the campaigns in France, Holland, Germany and then back into Belgium. The last letter received from him stated that he had been in Germany but was back in Belgium. It was dated Dec. 23 and was received here recently.
Pvt. Thomas was working for a construction company at Pando when called into service. He had planned when he returned from the war to make his home at Montrose.
Sisters-in-law who live here are Mrs. James Miles and Mrs. Dewey Cox while Lyle Conner is a brother. Mrs. Alice Conner, mother of Mrs. Thomas, is here on a visit.
Pvt. Thomas and the former Inez Conner were married at Sidney, Neb., five years ago.

PVT. HOWARD THOMAS KILLED IN GERMANY
Pvt. Howard W. Thomas was killed in action in Germany on December 25, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Thomas of Denver.
Cpl. and Mrs. Morgan Thomas who were visiting here and Mrs. Vern Kramer left Monday evening for Denver to be with their parents.
Pvt. Thomas was reared in this community and attended the Phillips County schools. Before entering the service he was employed on the western slope.
Howard is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Thomas of Denver, a sister, Mrs. Vern Kramer, two brothers, Cpl. Morgan Thomas of the Air Corps stationed at Lowry Field, and George of the Merchant Marine, wife and two daughters of Montrose, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George T. Glover of Holyoke.

Pvt. Howard Thomas Reported as Killed in Action
The names of two more Yuma county men were added this week to the growing number of local boys who have given their lives for their country in World War II, as relatives here received telegrams from the War Department.
A telegram received here Monday night reported the death in action of Pvt. Howard Thomas, 27, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thomas, former residents of north of Wray who now live in Denver. Pvt. Thomas was killed Christmas day in Belgium, the message stated. His father is now a patient in the D.&R.G.W. hospital at Salida. The Thomases lived at Holyoke last fall. Thomas would have been in the army a year in February. He sailed for overseas duty in September. His wife, Inez, daughter of Mrs. Ike Conner, and the couple's two small daughters, live at Montrose, near her sister, Mrs. Dewey Cox. The couple was living in Salida when Pvt. Thomas entered the service. He is a nephew of Mrs. A.E. Lorimer.

Final rites for Pvt. Howard Thomas, 27 year old World War II Veteran who was killed in Germany on December 25, 1944, will be held April 9 at Olingers Mortuary chapel at 1:30 p.m. with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver, Colo.
Private Thomas is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Thomas of Erie, Colo., his wife and two daughters of Montrose, a sister, Mrs. Vern Kramer, two brothers, Morgan, of Denver, and George, with the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Worth, Tex. and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Glover of Holyoke.
