Sgt. Ernest Jonson Reported as Killed in Action
The names of two more Yuma county men were added this week to the growing number of local boys who have given their lives for their county in World War II, as relatives here received telegrams from the War Department.
On Monday, Mrs. Edna Jonson was informed that her son, Sgt. John Earnest Jonson, 25, had been killed in action in Belgium on New Year's Day. He was with the tank destroyers and had participated in most of the American action since the invasion of France. He entered service on January 7, 1943, trained at Camp Roberts, California, Fort Lewis, Washington, Fort Ord, California, Camp Pickett and Camp Hood. He went overseas to England in June of last year. A brother, Master Sergeant Oscar E. Jonson, is serving in the South Pacific. Besides his mother, a sister, Mrs. Ida Ackelson, whose husband had been reported killed in action with the Air Corps, and a brother, Carl, a high school senior and a Wray Gazette employee, reside at Wray.
