Armel.
Photographs and family information donated by Anita Davis, DavisChase1887@yahoo.com
Leslie W. Chase, the son of John M and Esther Winn (Armstrong) Chase, was born in 1859. He married Malinda "Linda" Romine, born 1855, about 1879. They had five children.
In 1887 Leslie and his uncle, Moses M. Chase, loaded their families in covered wagons in Rutland, Ohio and set out for Colorado. Two months later they arrived in Haigler, Nebraska where Moses and his wife, Sarah (Barnes) Chase, opened a store. Leslie, his wife and their then three children came on west into Colorado and settled on 320 acres south of the Rosecran's Arickaree ranch in sections 27 and 34, T2S R42W. The following year Leslie's brother, Herman M. Chase, followed Leslie to Colorado settling south of Beecher. They were joined by a sister, Viola, who settled immediately southeast of Beecher and an uncle, Thomas Chase, who homesteaded a quarter joining Leslie.
Leslie died in 1919 and Malinda in 1933. They are buried in the Armel Cemetery with an infant son, Edwin L, who died in 1889. Their plot is not far from Leslie's parents, John Merrill Chase (1831-1918) and Esther Winn Chase (1833-1911), who came to Colorado in 1908 to live with Herman.
