Hosea and Ethel Iva (Chase) Cotterell Davis, Armel.
Photographs and family information donated by Anita Davis, DavisChase1887@yahoo.com

Ethel Iva Chase was born in Ohio in 1878, the eldest daughter of Leslie W. and Malinda (Armstrong) Chase. She came to Colorado with her parents in 1887 and grew up on the family homestead just south of the Rosencrans ranch in the Armel area.

In 1898 Ethel married Charles Edward Cotterell, born 1877 in Blair, Nebraska, the son of Charles and Anna Cotterell. They had two children Florence born in 1901 and Clifford born in 1903. Charles Cotterell, who had been "sickly" for a long time, died in 1905 at age 29. He is buried in the Haigler Cemetery, Haigler, Nebraska.

In 1909 Ethel Cotterell married Hosea "Dock" Davis, born 1878 in Illinois, the son of John W and Sarah K (Wells) Davis. At a young age Hosea moved to Kansas with his parents living in Cloud County and later in Cheyenne County. Hosea came to the Armel area in 1908 and homesteaded three miles northeast of Armel. He and Ethel had two children of their own: Beatrice Esther in 1909 and Norvin Chase in 1913. Dock and Ethel lived on the farm until 1920 when they moved to Haigler.

Ethel died in 1942 and Hosea in 1955. They are buried in the Armel Cemetery beside Ethel's parents, Leslie and Malinda Chase.
