Richard E. Stenson was born Sept 13, 1870 in Illinois. His father Richard Elliott Stenson died in 1872 and is buried in Lake Cemetery, Republic County, Kansas, # 108042331.

"Richard Elliott Stenson was born 11 Mar 1843 at Nottinghamshire Co., England. He was the seventh of eight children born to John Stenson and Sarah Osborne who married 25 Feb 1827.
He arrived in the United States at Port of New York on 23 Aug 1850 aboard the SS Washington. (John Stenson was 44, Richard 7. His father, John, dies 10 days after landing in America. His mother, Sarah, died when he was about two and he was entirely raised by his step mother, Elizabeth Johnson Stenson.

During the Civil War he enlisted in the First Missouri Engineers Company "B". In July 1862 he contracted amoebic dysentery that would harsly affect him for the rest of his life.
On 4 Nov 1865 he married Eva Cinderella Greene of Canton, Fulton Co., IL. They had three children: Charles Henry (1866-1945), John William (1868-1905), and Richard Elmer (1870-1969).
In the fall of 1870, Richard Elliott Stenson moved his family from Fulton Co., IL to Republic Co., KS where he homsteaded Big Bend Township. He died 14 Dec 1872 of Chronic Dysentery at the age 29 years, 9 months, and 3 days.
He is buried at Lake Cemetery, Republic, Republic Co., KS years before it became a chartered organized cemetery. "

Pardon of Canton in 1899; Robert Stenson and John William Stenson, both of Waverly, Washington. Alfred and sister Sarah came from England together. Brother John was here when they arrived in America. If I am not mistaken, brother Robert came in time of the war about Brother John left this county and Illinois shortly after the war and went to Kansas. I don t remember the year Robert left here.when the war broke out I was living in Farmington, Illinois, ten miles from Canton, Illinois. Brother Alfred was living here in Canton, Illinois. I did not live here at Canton during the war nor since the war until 13 years ago this spring. I came back to make a home for brother Alfred. He didn t look then like he would live six weeks. Sarah Pardon, 1899 Alfred Stenson was sunstruck while marching to a boat at Alton, Illinois, which resulted in nervous prostration and general debility for the rest of his life. His sister remarked that he passed out for 20 minutes from sitting on the front porch in the summer heat. He blamed his rheumatism and chronic diarrhea on exposure at Ft. Donelson in By 1884 he could only work as a messenger and janitor for the Canton Register newspaper. He held this job for one month until weakness and sickness forced him to quit. His sister Sarah 1831-1916 is buried in Fulton County, Illinois. "Mrs. Sarah A. Pardun for many years a resident of Canton, died at 4:45 pm. yesterday afternoon at the home of Thomas P. Chell, in Peoria, aged eighty-five years. She was born in Nottingham, England and came to America when quite young.Her parents were john Stenson and Sarah Osborne.She had one brother,Alfred. She married Vincent Pardun in Canton in 1853 and there are surviving two sons ? A. R. Pardun of Omaha and Charles Pardun of Peoria.they had 2 Boys and 2 Girls.
Mrs. Pardun lived in Canton until recently, when she removed to Peoria. The body will be brought to Canton at 9 am tomorrow and the funeral will be held at the Fisher Funeral Home at 2 pm in the afternoon. she Also had a daughter Ellen sarah Pardun who married charles s.moore,Ellen died 1901 in california. "

"Rev. Frank Ward was born in Lafayette county, Missouri and died in Caldwell, Kansas, April, 5th 1916. Rev. Ward had been complaining for the past six months or more, and was taken seriously ill Tuesday evening at eight o'clock, lost consciousness about nine and died Wednesday morning at 2:30. He professed christian religion and was baptised into the Methodist Episcopal church forty years ago/ He answered the call to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ soon after his conversion and was ordained to the ministry sixteen years ago. He pastored several charges as supply to the satisfaction of the churches he served. His last charge was the 2nd M. E. ohurch of this city which he erected.
He was united in marriage to Celia Payton, of Saline county, Mo. more than thirty years ago and to this happy union were born eight children, three of whom preceded him in death and five survive him with the widowed mother.
The deceased moved from Saline county, Mo., to Clay Center, Kans., later locating at Leoti, moving to Caldwell in 1890, where he has always endeavored to live a consistent life and desirable citizen until called from time to eternity. He was conscious of the end and expressed his willingness to go to meet his God.
He leaves to mourn his loss a loving and devoted wife, two sons and three daughters, Wade, of Pratt, Golar of this city, Mrs. Garlington. and Mrs. Cooper, of Kansas City and Miss Jeanette. He also leaves three sisters and three brothers, all of whom have done much to relieve his last months of suffering."

March 19, 1920 Cuba, Kansas "Mrs. R. E. Stenson Jennetta Ella Ward died at her home near Fleming, Colo., March 5th, 1920 at 4:40 p. m., after a very brief illness of complicated diseases. She was united in marriage December 16, 1896, and was married to Mr. R. E. Stenson. To this union eight children were born, two boys and six girls. She was a loving mother. To know her was to love her. She united with the Missionary Baptist church when fifteen years of age and remained a member of same until Feb. 22, 1920. There being no Baptist church where she lived she united with the Methodist Episcopal church at New Haven.
Besides her husband and children she leaves a mother and four brothers."

WILLIAM McGUIRE, farmer, P. O. Republic City, was born in Ray County, Mo., in 1834, living there until fifteen years of age; then emigrated to Iowa, locating in Webster County. Enlisted in 1864, in the Sixteenth Iowa Volunteer Infantry, serving until August, 1865.
Emigrated to Kansas, June 15, 1870, locating in Republic County, and took a homestead on Section 31, Township 2, Range 4; improved the place by breaking thirty-five acres; planted three acres of timber, built house and stables; at the end of two years sold out and pre-empted 160 acres of Section 25, Township 1, Range 5; has eighty acres under the plow; has planted four acres of timber, one and three-fourths miles of hedge, 300 apple trees, 300 plum trees, 20 cherry trees, 300 peach trees, and 200 grape vines and a variety of small fruits; good frame house 14x26 feet, wing 14x14 feet, story and-a-half; has a good stock farm, the place being well watered by a large spring, furnishing plenty of water for stock. The farm is but one mile from a railroad point; at the time he located in the county was seventy miles from a railroad point. Has the place stocked with twenty-three head of cattle and about forty head of hogs, raising from twenty-five to fifty head annually. Is one of the model farmers of the township and a man of good judgment, and has done well since he located here.
Was married in 1853, and had five children, viz: J. F. D., W. M., Mary, Jessie and Sarah E.
Was married again in May, 1874 to Miss Stenson of Republic County, Kan. They have four children, vis: Walter, Noble, Royal and Cora Pearl. Is a member of the Mission Baptist Church.

November 1928, Haxtun, Colorado "Miss Edith Stenson, who was teaching at Good Hope School, contracted pneumonia and died while attending teachers' convention in Denver.

Stenson (Kathleen Joy The couple received at the Burlingame Women's club and honeymooned at Yosemite and in Southern California. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Coxhead of Burlingame, formerly of Essex, England. The Richard Stcnsons of Redwood City are Bob's parents."

September 1923 "Leo Dain Arnold and Muriel Evelina Stenson, both of Yuma, obtained a license to wed at the court house in Wray last Friday."

EDITH

Miss Edith Stenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Stenson of east of Yuma, died in the Presbyterian hospital in Denver on Saturday, Nov. 10, 1928, after a brief illness. The young lady was teaching at Dailey up in Logan county and went to Denver to attend the teachers meeting. Although suffering from a cold, she was not considered to be very ill. The cold rapidly became worse and settled on her lungs. Friday she was taken to the hospital and the next day she died. The body was brought to Yuma and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Lafoon officiating. The interment was at the Yuma cemetery."

June 1950 Greeley, Colorado " First Methodist Church Monday afttrnoon at o'clock, two CBCB students Jackie Perry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Perry of Gallup, N.M., and Glen D. Stenson, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen E. Stenaon of Holyoke. The Rev. John L. Spargo of Denver, long-time friend of the family, officiated at the double ring service. Sixty guests were present. Organ selections were provided by Shirley Schrader, who also played the Wedding March from Lohengrin, Altar setting was made beautiful with white tapers, banked by two blankets of pink and white flowers. Front pews were marked with white satin bows and pink peonies. Given in marriage by her fatber, the bride was attired in a gown of white marquisette, tucked bodice, fastened with tiny buttons to the waist, and a full skirt. Her fingertip veil, edged with lace, fell from a sweetheart shaped tiara. She carried a cascade bouquet of white gladiolus and lilies of the valley, tied with white ribbon. Her handkerchief was carried by both her grandmother and mother at their weddings. Maid of honor was Miss Pattie Anne Perry of Gallup, sister of the bride. Cal Cordes of Wickenburg, Ariz., served as best man, and M. H. Stevenson of Fort Collins, uncle of the bride, and Sam Creswell ushered. Candle lighters were Miss Kay Perry and Miss Patty Ross.
Reception was held In the parloi of the church. Mrs. Don McColery of Fort Morgan, aunt of the groom, had charge of the guest book. Miss Margare Zimmerman cut the cake, assisted by Miss Edith Stenson, sister of the groom. Mrs. M. H. Stevenson aunt of the bride, presided at the punch bowl, assisted by Miss Joan Bailey. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs. Glen E. Stenion, Edith Jeanette and Jim of Holyoke; Mr and Mrs. A. M. Perry of Gallup, Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Perry of Cambridge, Neb., grandparents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Stevenson and Richard of Fort Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Don McColery of Fort Morgan, Rex Spargo, Mr. and Mrs Virgil Pennell of Fort Collins, Mr. and Mrs. David Sawyer of Boulder, Mrs. C. C. "Blanche Ruby Emery Stenson, formerly of Holyoke, was born December 11, 1902 at Bellaire, KS to Seth W. and Edith Pruitt Emery. She died March 30, 1996 in Denver at the age of 93. Blanche received her education in Smith County, Kansas schools. As a young girl, she was baptized in the Crystal Plains Union Church. She transferred her membership to First United Methodist Church in Holyoke. On December 22, 1924, Blanche was united in marriage to Glen Elmer Stenson of Yuma. Six children were born to this marriage: Glen E., Jr., Wilbur L., Frank F., Edith A., James R. and Jeanette S. Blanche gave many years of service to the Holyoke and Amherst communities. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and became a 50 year member of that organization in 1995. Blanche was also Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and past president of Royal Neighbors of America. She had been a member of many organizations including Jolly Dozen Home Extension Club, Navy Mothers of America and Martha Unit of WSCS of United Methodist Church. Blanche served as a cub scout and girl scout leader and worked with Rainbow Girls and the American Red Cross. In 1931-32, she ran a small cafe in the old Amherst Bank building. After raising her six children, she managed Holyoke Furniture store for a number of years. She was a military wife and mother during World War II, while husband Glen served in the Seabees and sons Glen J., Wilbur, Frank and James also served. Preceding her in death were her husband of 63 years, Glen; her parents; son Frank, and brothers Frank and Homer. Survivors include sons Glen J. and wife Margaret of Denver, Wilbur and wife Ronnie of Nashville, TN, and James and wife Joyce of Fort Collins; daughters Edith and husband Walt Harris of Crete, NE and Jeanette and husband Major General [Ret.] Kenneth Hagemann of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law Yolanda Stenson of Longmont; 24 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; brother Elmer Emery and wife of Redmond, OR and a number of nieces and nephews. "
In 1991 Kenneth Hagemann of Holyoke was promoted to Major General, U.S.A.F, commander of the 7th Air Division at Ramstein, Germany.

Born January 29, 1917 in Belleville, Kansas to Jeanette Ward and Richard Elmer Stenson. Ruth 92, passed away on December 3, 2009 at Sutter Hospital Roseville. The youngest of 7 children, she graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City, CA. Ruth and Bill Faulstich were married in Santa Cruz, CA. on September 1, 1939. They lived in Redwood City, CA, where Bill became the Chief of Police and Ruth, very successful with Royer Reality in residential sales. During their beautiful life together, they gave birth to their daughter Melodee and son Gary. Bill passed away at the young age of 52. Melodee married George French and Gary married Nancy Hinkel and both soon had families providing Ruth 3 grandchildren. Gary was tragically killed in an auto accident while living with his wife and 1 yr old daughter in Reno, NV. After several years, Ruth found strength and a new life. She married Edward Myall and continued to live in Redwood City. This new partner brought Ruth an additional 6 children who all married and provided her with 13 more grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Ruth and Ned enjoyed life in retirement spending time in Palm Springs, Boulder Creek and Redwood City. Ruth and Ned lived together for 25 yrs prior to his passing away. Ruth was a great athlete playing tennis, golf, & tap dancing. Within a short time she moved to the Eskaton Retirement Center in Granite Bay, CA, where she lived for the past 4 yrs. spending many wonderful hours with great new friends enjoying the exercise group, WII bowling, bridge and bingo. She will be remembered as an inspiration to her family & friends. She is loved dearly and will be missed. In addition to her children & grandchildren, Ruth leaves a half-brother Robert Stenson; 15 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

1955 "Two teenage youngsters have been turned over to juvenile authorities, charged with the strongarm robbery of Mrs. Clara Stenson, 65, of 2926 Curtis avenue, Redwood City, mother-in-law of Redwood City police captain William Faulstich. Mrs. Stenson was hospitalized for observation after the youths knocked her down on Berkshire way and ran off with her purse containing $13 cash. The youths, age 13 and 14, admitted the robbery to Sheriff's Deputies Forrest Paul and Milton Minehan, who arrested them yesterday afternoon following a tip from other youngsters who live in the south Redwood City area where the robbery occured. "

The couple received at the Burlingame Women's club and honeymooned at Yosemite and in Southern California. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Coxhead of Burlingame, formerly of Essex, England. The Richard Stensons of Redwood City are Bob's parents."

Arthur Coxhead died in 1961, and had a daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Stenson and grandson, Michael Stenson, both of Burlingame.

In 1995 Jesse Stenson Surdy of Cupertino, class of '31, attended a Yuma reunion.

Jessie E. (Stenson) Surdez, 92, died in San Jose in May 2007.

Glen Elmer Stenson, M. M. 1/c, U. S. N. R., enlisted in the U.S. Navy Seabees in July 1942 and was called to duty in October 1942. After receiving his basic training at Camp Bradford, Norfolk, Virginia, he was transferred to Camp Peary, Williamsburg, Virginia, where he did construction work for nine months. After completing his advanced training at Davisville, Rhode Island, he was given overseas duty and is now in the southwest Pacific. He is a son of R.E. Stenson of Redwood City, California.

Blanche Ruby Emery Stenson, formerly of Holyoke, was born December 11, 1902 at Bellaire, KS to Seth W. and Edith Pruitt Emery. She died March 30, 1996 in Denver at the age of 93.
Blanche received her education in Smith County, Kansas schools. As a young girl, she was baptized in the Crystal Plains Union Church. She transferred her membership to First United Methodist Church in Holyoke.
On December 22, 1924, Blanche was united in marriage to Glen Elmer Stenson of Yuma. Six children were born to this marriage: Glen E., Jr., Wilbur L., Frank F., Edith A., James R. and Jeanette S.
Blanche gave many years of service to the Holyoke and Amherst communities. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and became a 50 year member of that organization in 1995. Blanche was also Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and past president of Royal Neighbors of America. She had been a member of many organizations including Jolly Dozen Home Extension Club, Navy Mothers of America and Martha Unit of WSCS of United Methodist Church. Blanche served as a cub scout and girl scout leader and worked with Rainbow Girls and the American Red Cross.
In 1931-32, she ran a small cafe in the old Amherst Bank building. After raising her six children, she managed Holyoke Furniture store for a number of years. She was a military wife and mother during World War II, while husband Glen served in the Seabees and sons Glen J., Wilbur, Frank and James also served.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 63 years, Glen; her parents; son Frank, and brothers Frank and Homer.
Survivors include sons Glen J. and wife Margaret of Denver, Wilbur and wife Ronnie of Nashville, TN, and James and wife Joyce of Fort Collins; daughters Edith and husband Walt Harris of Crete, NE and Jeanette and husband Major General [Ret.] Kenneth Hagemann of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law Yolanda Stenson of Longmont; 24 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; brother Elmer Emery and wife of Redmond, OR and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were scheduled for Wednesday, April 3, 1996 at First United Methodist Church of Holyoke with Rev. Jack Pedotto offciating. Interment was to follow at Holyoke Memorial Park.


One tree said that Richard's brother Charles H. Stenson ws in Nuckolls COunty Nebraska until the 1940's, and one son Ernest Claude Stenson 1892-1968 is buried in Republlic County Kanssa, # 129144122.
