Marion Pickett

Nellie Pratt was in Green County, Wisconsin in 1880, 16, with Catherine 53. ALfred is 22, James 20, Casinda 18, and Dave 14.

Her father Oliver 1803-1867 is buried in Monticello # 98656238.

Marion was born January 15, 1883 in Sylvester, Green County, Wisconsin to Charles D. Pickett and Nellie Pratt. Charles arrived in Yuma County in September 1886, his wife June 5, 1887.



Charles cash-claimed a quarter in section 2, 3 North 44 West, in 1892, next to in-law Eli Steninger in 1891.

Charles also cash-claimed forty acres in 4, 1N 44W a couple of miles west of Wray, in 1911.

In 1900 Wray, Charles has no occupation, born February 1859 in Minnesota, married 17 years to Ella M. Dec 1863 Wisconsin. She's had four kids, one living.
Marion D. was born January 1883 in Wisconsin, Pearl E. October 1888 and Merle J. March 1895 in COlorado.


September 1903 "A letter from Marion Pickett who went to Franklin Nebraska some time ago to attend school, states that he is much pleased with his school work. Marion says he would sooner go to school than wrestle coal oil and groceries."


May 24, 1907
November 1907 "Little Misses Merle Pickett and Virgie Grant visited at Red Cloud, Nebraska, the first of the week, the guests of Marion Pickett and wife of whom they are sisters."

January 29, 1909 "Born to Mr. and Mrs. Marion Pickett on Friday, January 22nd, a girl."

In 1910, Marion is a teamster in Wray, 27, with Opal 21, Viola M. 2, and Catharine E. 1.

March 1911 "Uncle Aleck Grant and wife visited last Sunday with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Pickett, west of town."

January 1912 Wray "Mrs. Marion Pickett is reported as being very sick this week."


July 1917 "Marion Pickett, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Pickett, who resides at Cornish, near Greeley, was injured in the shoulder this week by a horse falling on him. Mrs. Pickett and Miss Merle and Mrs. Ed Broderick left Monday, to be with him and his family until he recovers."

June 1922 "Mr. and Mrs. Marion Pickett and family of Cornish, Colo., are visiting relatives in Wray."

September 1923 "Mr. and Mrs. Marion Pickett are the parents of a girl born Sunday, August 26th."

In 1940 Wray, Marion is a state brand inspector, 57, with Opal 50 born in Missouri, Harriet 16 and Leo Dean 9 were born in Colorado.

Viola M. Pickett 17, married Clair Ralph on January 20, 1925 in Yuma County.
They had Harry Clair Ralph on September 14, 1926 in Wray, who died June 30, 1990.
Harry 1926-1990 is buried in Camarillo, California # 77624438, with Clara K, 1923-2004 # 77624437.
Viola 1907-1987 is buried in Wheat Ridge # 171836883, with Clair COlumbus Ralph 1905-1944 # 63637695.

Charles Alexander Pickett was born at Wray on December 29, 1911, dying November 15, 1998.
He married Beatrice F. Adams on February 14, 1931 in Yuma County.

She was born in Benkelman to Charles and Lena Adams on March 26, 1913, dying in Wray April 10, 1935.
In 1940 they're in Wray Charles 28, Lois M. 18, Patsy 9, Norma J. 7, Garry L. 1, and Joseph Sherman 59.

Chas. A. and Doris are in Pasadena California in 1943.

Charles died in Duncan, Oklahoma November 15, 1998.

Doris Maxeine Sherman Pickett, a Sallisaw resident since August 2009, and current resident of Sequoyah Manor in Sallisaw, passed away peacefully with daughter Linda Ragains at her side on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at the age of 92. Doris was born on Oct. 30, 1921, in Wray, Colo., the daughter of Jasper S. Sherman and Luella Farwell Sherman. Doris' mother, Luella Sherman, went home to be with the Lord on June 13, 1933, when Doris was just 11 years old.

Patsy "Pat" Ruth Deines passed away May 10, 2012 at Hospice of Northern Colorado. She was born in Wray, CO November 29, 1931, the daughter of Charles and Beatrice (Adams) Pickett. To that union was born Pat and Norma. After Beatrice's death in 1935 Charles married Doris Sherman in June of 1938. To that union was born Gary and Linda. During the WWII years the family moved to California and remained there until the summer of 1947 when the family returned to Laird, CO.
Pat graduated from Laird High School in 1949 and thereafter married John Deines on May 22, 1949. In January 1950 the couple moved to Fort Lupton, CO where Pat was a devoted wife and mother. The family moved to the Greeley area in 1959 where John worked for McCoy Caterpillar as a field service representative. In the fall of 1973 John and Pat moved to Tontitown, AR where they built a home on a small acreage. In the spring of 1978 they returned to Colorado. John passed away in January 1986 after a five year battle with heart disease.
Pat began her career with State Farm Insurance in Greeley in 1968, holding numerous secretarial positions in Personnel, Claims (Fayetteville, AR) Executive, Legal Counsel, and Administrative Services before retiring in June 1994.
After retirement, Pat traveled to Europe four times and began 10 years of volunteer work with the Assistance League of Greeley, serving as Treasurer and Finance Chairman. Pat was an active member of the First United Methodist church, serving on numerous committees and visiting nursing homes with her friend Merle Smith from 1995 through 2009. The friendships gained during these years of volunteerism resulted in friendships that continued throughout her life.
Her passion was her family and her friends. She enjoyed family trips to the Poudre Canyon while she and John were raising their children. She also enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching, bowling, crossword puzzles and card games. She took great joy in attending her grandchildren's sporting events, plays, concerts, graduations, and weddings. In later years she enjoyed daily walks with friends and gambling trips to Blackhawk with her brother-in-law and companion, Ralph Deines.
Pat is survived by her children, Lynn (Bill) Hatch of Windsor, CO, Debra (Mike) Bonkiewicz of New Castle, CO; grandchildren, Emily (Justin) Paul, Todd Hatch, Julie (Zach) Pinkerton, Christina (Jerod) Cronquist, and Laura Bonkiewicz; step mother, Doris Pickett; sisters, Norma (Ernest) Deines, Linda (Lee) Ragains; brother, Gary (Pat) Pickett; her husbands siblings, Maxine Smith, Bonnie Lund, Glen (Nancy) Deines, Edna (Dwayne) Pilkington, Ralph Deines, Ernest (Norma) Deines; and her beloved miniature Schnauzer, Mandie. She is preceded in death by her husband; infant son, Douglas Allen Deines; parents; brothers-in-law, Clarion Smith, Clyde Lund; and sister-in-law, Fern Deines.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 13, 2012 from 3-5 p.m. at Adamson Chapel. Celebration of Life Service 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, 917 10th Avenue, Greeley. Inurnment at Mizpah Cemetery in Platteville. "
