Jay R. Prentice and Bessie A. Jordan married March 4, 1912 in Yuma County.
December 1912 "Mr. and Mrs. Jay Prentice are the proud parents of a baby boy, born to them Tuesday morning at the home of Mrs. Prentice's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jordan, of south of town.
Thid completes the fourth generation in that family and they are all present in the Jordan home,
as the baby's great grand-mother, Mrs. Martha Fargo, of Syracuse, N. Y.,
anived here a short time ago. Mr. Jordan seems to enjoy being called 'Grandpa.'"

December 1915 " Jay Prentice, who lives on a homestead in the Vernon vicinity spent the day lust Monday with his brother, Earl Prentice east of town. Jay has been spending a few months with his wife
and baby at the home of hia father-in-law, James Jordan on the flats. "

Mt. and Mrs. Jay Prentice of the Laird community postponed the celebration of their March 6, 1912, marriage so that their
children and their families could be home for the occasion. They will be guests of honor at an
open house in the Laird church annex this Sunday afternoon. April 1, from two until four o'clock, and invite their friends and neighbors to call, but not with gifts, please.
Bessie Jordan and Jay Prentice were married at the home of the bride's parents southeast of Wray, present home of the couple, and were attended by their sisters,
Doris Jordan Hisington of Wray and Margaret Prentice of Boulder, both of whom plan to attend the anniversary party. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Prentice homesteaded southeast of Vernon before returning to the Laird community
which has been their home for the past thirty years. They are the parents of six children, Keith of Wray, Mrs. Joe (Emma) Starnes of Lamoni, Iowa, Gerald of Wray, Mrs. Max (Carolyn) Hubbard of Kellogg, Iowa, Dean of Sacramento, Calif., and Elmo of Cheyenne, Wyo., whose families include the twenty one grandchildren of the Laird couple."

son, Keith Prentice, who lives in Sacramento, California, telling them of the
arrival of twins on Wednesday, February 2, 1949.
The babies have been named Phillip and Phyllis and have a two
year old sister, Marilyn.

" Mrs. Keith Prentice, a resident of this community since 1949, died Tuesday afternoon at the Wray Community hospital where she had been a patient for the previous week. Her death followed a long period of illness.
The former Gladys Kathryn Flint was born January 25, 1920, at Wilber. Neb. She was married to Keith Prentice on August 10, 1940, at Sacramento, Calif.
The couple made their home in California until 1949 when they came to Wray to live on a farm south-east of town.
She is survived by her husband. Keith, and four children, Marilyn. Phyllis, Philip and David.
The funeral services will be at the Wray Methodist church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon with the Rev. Hoover,
pastor of the Laird church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Grandview cemetery."
"The mother, five sisters and two brothers of Mrs. Keith Prentice were among the out-of-town relatives who came
for her funeral service on Friday afternoon, May 11, at the Methodist church in Wray. The Rev. Dean Hoover, pastor of
the Laird church, officiated and burial followed in Grandview.
The mother is Mrs. Arthur Flint of Alliance, Neb., and brothers,
sisters and their families included Leonard C. Flint, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Flint Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ward and family of Alliance, Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Hamilton and Mrs. Alvah Hamilton of Ellsforth, Neb.. Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Hill of Sacramento. Calif.,
and Mrs. James Cooper of Rocklin, Calif. Other Prentice relatives here for the service were Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Prentice of Cheyenne, Wyo.,
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Darbin of Derby and Miss Margaret Prentice of Boulder."

" Emma Idella Starnes, age 92 of Lamoni, Iowa, daughter of Jay Roy and Bessie Alice [Jordan] Prentice, was born July 3, 1918, in Wray, Colorado, and died September 15, 2010, at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Emma grew up in Colorado and graduated from Wray High school. She then attended business school in Chicago. After returning to Wray, she was a health aide for the Starnes Family, where she met Joe Starnes.
Emma and Joe Sample Starnes were married September 17, 1941, and began their married life on a farm in Laird, Colorado. In 1948, they moved to their farm north of Lamoni. Four children were born to Emma and Joe: Ardyce Idella, Ronald Joe, Mary Joyce, and Kenny Ray.
Emma worked side-by-side with Joe on the farm. She helped with the milking operation, raised chickens, helped with the cattle and hogs, worked in the fields, and kept meticulous books. Emma also spent 20 years at the Swarm Inn Snack Shop at Graceland College, retiring in 1980.
Emma and Joe moved from the farm into their house in Lamoni in 1965. She enjoyed playing the piano, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, watching game shows, playing cards, and watching her family play softball and baseball. Emma was a lifetime diary journalist and wrote long letters to her family and friends.
She was baptized into and a member of the reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Preceding Emma in death were her parents; husband Joe Starnes in 1991; daughter Ardyce Judson; grandson Jon Ryan Lighthill; and brothers Keith, Gerald, and Ronald Prentice.
She is survived by her children: Ron Starnes of Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, Joyce Lighthill and husband Duane of Hatfield, Missouri, and Kenny Starnes and wife Dianna of Littleton, Colorado; son in law Duane Judson of Dallas, Texas; 6 grandchildren: Scott Judson and wife Misty, Shelly Allen and husband Kevin, Danielle Gebert and husband Jim, Jay Starnes, Lyndsay Bellinger and husband Terry, and Dylan Starnes; 9 great-grandchildren: Shelby, Jordan, Joshua, Rebekah, Taber, Emma, Hunter, Elizabeth, and Dakota; sister Carolyn Hubbard and husband Max of Reasoner, Iowa; brothers Deane Prentice of Sacramento, California and Elmo Prentice and wife Barbara of Lake Havasu, Arizona; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends."

February 1945 "A wedding that will be of interest to many people of the Wray community
was solemnized at the Wray Methodist church at 10 o'clock, Tuesday morning, February 6th,
when Miss Elvira June Heins, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hems, became
the bride of Mr. Gerald I. Prentice, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Prentice,
of southeast of Wray. Rev. Haruf, the Methodist minister, officiated at the double ring ceremony, which was witnessed by fifty or more relatives and friends.
The bride, an attractive blonde, wore a street length dress of light blue with a red rose bud corsage and was attended by her younger sister, Theresa Heins, who was also dressed in light blue with, a carnation corsage. The groom and best man Dean Prentice wore navy blue suits with carnation boutonnieres.
After a short honeymoon Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Prentice will be at home on the groom's farm
southeast of Wray. The bride has been employed at Fred's Grocery and the groom at the Starr
Electrical Store, after serving 8 months with the U. S. Army and receiving a medical discharge.
After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents.
The guest list included Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Prentice, Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Heins and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Prentice and sons, Rev. and Mrs. Haruf,
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Starnes, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Ming and daughter Eunice, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis O. Wages and son Tommy, and Miss Darlene Strangways.

June 1950 "Miss Ellen Heaton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Heaton,
became the bride of Elmo Prentice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Prentice, Sunday afternoon,
June 4, with Rev. Earl K. Hanna performing the double ring ceremony at two-thirty. The bride was attired in a lovely white satin gown with a nylon net yoke,
styled with a sweetheart neckline and long princess style sleeves. The train was trimmed with Chantilly lace and the fingertip veil fell from a sweetheart beaded crown. Her bouquet of pink and white carnations was also
trimmed in Chantilly lace. The groom's gift, a beautiful jeweled necklace, completed her costume. She was given in marriage by her father.
Mrs. Gene Keeler, sister of the bride, was her matron of honor and wore pink chiffon.
The bridesmaid, Mrs. Max Hubbard of Kellogg, Ia., sister of the groom, was in pale blue. Both carried bouquets of white daisies and wore matching tiaras of those flowers.
Baskets and vases of iris, carnations, gladioli, baby breath and yellow roses decked the altar and piano. Love You Trulyā€¯ preceding the ceremony. They were accompanied by Mrs. Jay Prentice.
Attendants of the groom were Gerald Prentice, best man and brother of the groom, and Gene Wells, a friend and classmate. Robert Yost of Haigler and Gene Keeler, brother-in-law of the bride, i were ushers.
The bride's mother wore a blue and white crepe dress with matching accessories and the groom's mother was in dusty rose with white accessories. They both had white carnation corsages.
A reception in the church annex followed the ceremony. Mrs. Pearl Rose, Mrs. Charles Cox
and Mrs. George Brethower served at the refreshment table on which the large three-tiered wedding cake made a beautiful center piece. Mrs. Robert Yost and Mrs. Gerald Prentice served the punch and were in charge of the gift table.
Mrs. Ruby Slama was in charge of the guest book.
Following the reception the couple left for a short honeymoon to Colorado Springs and other places of interest.
The bride is a graduate of the Wray high school and for the past two years has been teaching north of Wray.
The groom graduated from the Wray high school and attended Denver University for two years.
They will make their home in Des Moines, Ia., where the groom is employed as an advertising artist."

June 1945 "Miss Carolyn G. Prentice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Prentice,
became the bride of Max Ray Hubbard of Edison, Nebr., Sunday, June 24th,
at a pretty church wedding at the Laird Methodist church. The bridal party took their
places before an altar bower of summer flowers and the marriage lines were read
by Rev. Louis Haruf, pastor of the church.
The bride was charming in a wedding gown of traditional white with a waist length veil
of illusion net and carried a bridal bouquet of June roses. She was given in marriage by her father Mr. Jay Prentice.
Miss Ada Belle Darbin, bridesmaid, wore a becoming frock of teal blue with a corsage of roses.
The groom and his best man Ivan Duane Warner wore dark business suits.
The ceremony was witnessed by relatives and friends.
