March 1915 "The residence of Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Prentice was the scene of a very pretty home wedding, Sunday, March 21, when their daughter Nettie, and Mr. Charles Darbin were united in holy bonds of matrimony,
by Rev. Rice of Wray.
About thirty relatives of the bride and groom were assembled to witness the ceremony., which took place at four p. m.
A bountiful wedding supper was served by Mrs. Prentice, in her usual able manner. Mr. and Mrs. Darbin received many useful and valuable gifts, and the good wishes for a happy future go with them to their home, six miles south of Laird."
March 1949 "Mrs. Nettie Darbin passed away Monday, February 21, at the family home near
Weldona following an illness of several months at the age of 53 years, 9 months and 23 days.
Nettie Laveta Prentice was born at Laird, April 28, 1895 to Burton D. Prentice and Idellah May Knight,
a twin to Floyd K. Prentice of Hotchkiss. She received her schooling and religious training at
Laird, where at a tender age she became a member of the Methodist church to which faith she
remained true during the years of her life. To know her was to love her for her innate goodness.
During the summer of 1916 she was united in marriage to Charles Darbin, to which union six children were born; one daughter, Ada Belle Darbin of Denver, Harold of Derby,
Burton of Wiggins, Charles, Jr., of Caldwell, Idaho; John of Derby and Floyd of Weldnoa and four grandchildren, all of whom with her husband survive her.
She was a devoted wife and mother, having few interests outside her home,
diligently striving to instill in her children the principles of right living and good citizenship.
Her unselfish devotion to her twin brother Floyd was admirable.
The family lived for a number of years north of Yuma in the Pleasant Valley community where she was well known.
She also leaves to mourn her passing two sisters, Margaret May Prentice of Tientsin, China,
Zella Duckworth of Huntington Park, California; five brothers, Earl of Kansas City, Kansas;
Claude of Eckley; Jay of Laird; Floyd of Hotchkiss; and Harold of Cloverdale, Indiana.
Funeral services were held at Laird Methodist February 28, with Rev. K. Orlando Lee officiating.
Interment was at Grandview Cemetery. Lockwood Mortuary had charge of arrangements."
July 1950 "A double funeral service, conducted by Rev. K. Orlando Lee, was held
Tuesday afternoon at the Lockwood Mortuary in Wray for Mr. and Mrs. Charles Darbin of Weldona.
Both were buried at Grandview cemetery.
The couple, recently married, died as a result of a collision tween a pickup,
in which they were riding, and an automobile at an intersection west of Fort Morgan
Thursday morning of last week. Mrs. Ethel Darbin, 58, died instantly when the impact
from the collision threw her to the pavement. Her husband, Charles Darbin, 56,
was hurled into the barrow pit and died Friday in the Fort Morgan hospital.
Riding with the couple at the time of the accident were Mrs. Darbin's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hungerford.
Both were injured, but not critically. A Fort Morgan youth, Robert Raymond Hurdt, driver for a grocery store,
was driving the automobile involved in the collision. He received a broken leg and was hospitalized at Brush.
The pickup is said to have stopped coming off a side road, and then to have pulled onto the highway in front of the approching automobile.
The automobile struck the pickup broadside.
Mr. Darbin formerly lived at Laird, and his first wife, who died in February, 1949, was the
former Nettie Prentice of Laird. He is survived by five sons and one daughter: Floyd of Weldona, Burton of Wiggins, Charles, Jr., of Caldwell, Idaho, John W. of Denver, Harold E. of Derby and Mrs. Belle Bristol of Keenesburg.
Mrs. Darbin was born at Norfolk, Neb., and is survived by two sons and four daughters. The couple were married in November of 1949."

January 1925 "In a letter to her brother, Jay Prentice, south of town, Miss Maggie Prentice, a native of Yuma County who about two months ago completed her schooling in Chicago and left as a Missionary for the Methodist church in China, states that she arrived at the field of her work there and that she likes it there very much.
She also stated that her location is not far from the seat of war over there, but that conditions
there are not nearly so bad as we get it in this country through the press.
Jay says the letter, which he received last week, was several weeks getting here, owing to the farness in the interior and the primitive methods in which it is taken from one province to another until it finally reaches the coast and boat."
September 1937 "Miss Maggie Prentice and Miss Marie Chuke, Methodist missionaries and trained
nurses from Tien Sen, China arrived this week and are guests at the Claude and Jay Prentice homes.
Miss Maggie Prentice, who is a sister of Claude and Jay Prentice, has been a missionary to China for 13 years. This is her second visit home during that
long period. Marie Chuke is a Chinese lady and this is her first visit to America.
She is a graduate nurse and is employed at the Methodist hospital in Tien Sen.
Miss Prentice and Miss Chuke will go to Chicago in a short time where they will take
special post graduate work. Their return to China will necessarily depend upon settlement of
the trouble that has developed over there. Miss Prentice is a former Wray lady, having lived
here prior to the time she became a missionary."
December 1943 "Miss Maggie Mae Prentice, former Wray woman who was one of the Americans who
returned from the orient on the recent voyage of the exchange ship, Gripsholm, and who had served for more than
twenty years as the superintendent of a hospital in China, is now in Chicago,
visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. Zella Duckworth.
She has written to relatives here that she is feeling grand and that it seems good to be
in one place and to stay there for a while. Relatives and friends here are hoping she
can arrange a visit here at some future date."

Miss Prentice has spent the past four years in a hospital in Liberia.
