August 1954 Roseburg, Oregon "Fire of undetermined origin swept through a trailer house belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kreutzer of Melton Road about 5:15 a.m. Monday morning. The trailer house was destroyed. The Kreutzers were not home when the blaze started, according to a neighbor. A four-man crew from the Roseburg Douglas Forest Protective Assn. had the fire under control in a short time. The crew took a pumper out with them. The trailer was setting in the back yard of the Henry Gillette home on Melton Road, about nine miles south and east of Roseburg. Kreutzer is the son of Mrs. Gillette. Mrs. Kreutzer had prepared breakfast for herself and her hus band about 4 a.m. She had gone up to visit her mother-in-law and was there drinking coffee when a sister-in-law ran into the home with news of the fire, according to Mrs. Gillette. Kreutzer was away at work as a choker setter for Harry Young Logging Co. on Rock Creek at the time of the fire. The three women raced to the trailer house. When they opened the door to let out the Kreutzer's dachshund, the draft caused the blaze to spread throughout the residence, Mrs. Gillette said. The Kreutzers, who have been married about six months, lost all their personal possessions in the fire. Mrs. Gillette said that the trailer house was believed to have been covered by insurance. The Kreutzers had no insurance on their belongings, she added. It was just two weeks ago that the young couple had purchased their new home. Mrs. Gillette said she and her daughter-in-laws were afraid the blaze would explode a nearby butane tank, before help arrived."
