John H. Monk, born September 11, 1849 in New York, was the son of William and Francis Marion Monk, both born in England. He married Mary A. Pile (born in Higginsville,Illinois) in Vermilion County June 29, 1871.

The 1900 Pocahontas County, Iowa, Swan Lake Precinct, has John, Mary, and children Mary - born July 1881 in Illinois, at school - and James - born March 1886 in Illinois, farming.
The 1910 Pocahontas County, Cummins Township, has J.H. Monk, age 60, married 39 years, doing general farming. Wife Mary A., 59, had seven children, five still living. James, 24, born in Illinois, a laborer, is the only child in the household.
John and Mary moved to Clay County, Iowa, where John died June 3, 1917 and Mary died April 6, 1923. They are buried in the Dickens Cemetery.

1920 Buena Vista County, Iowa, Fairfield Township, ED 4, sheet 11B has Mary, widowed, 68, born Illinois, living with brother James A. Pyle and his wife Matilda.

Obit in Spencer News-Herald has "Seven children, four boys and three girls. Two boys died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Mary M. ???, preceded her to the other world October 19, 1917....Mrs. Monk, Grandma, as she was called by her neighbors fell and broke her hip. Laying for six weeks lacking only a few hours, manafesting (sic) the Christ spirit all the way through her illness and on June 4 she went to sleep no more to wake here with her Friends, but by her Godlly life she still lives in her community and church......She was a member of the M.E. church and one of the prayer meeting workers, and always there if her health allowed her to be there. She leaves to mourn her death, four children, two boys and two girls, John R. Monk of Rothsay, Minnesota, Mrs. Redman of Potomic, Illinois, Mrs. J. E. Fouts (should be Foust) of Emmetsburg, James L. Monk of Lonsdale Minnesota. Three brothers, 23 grandchildren, one great grand child, and many friends

Wanda M. Monk, a resident of Fort Ripley, died May 1, 2007, at her residence in Fort Ripley.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie with Father Mark Innocenti officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, north of Little Falls.
Wanda was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Minneapolis to the late Roy and Magdalena Begin. She was united in marriage to Paul Lloyd Monk Nov. 14, 1953, in Rochester. The couple made their home in Fort Ripley for many years. Wanda enjoyed nature, gardening, canning and spending time with her family.
Wanda is survived by her daughters, Susan Breedlove of Springdale, Ark., Deborah Stepanek and husband Lisle of Fort Ripley and Nancy Kowalzek and husband David of Fort Ripley; one son, James Allen Monk and wife Jean Ann of Arnegard, N.D.; brothers Marvin Begin of Fort Ripley and Bernie Begin and wife Terri of Rochester; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul Monk; son David Monk; sister Evon Murphy; and brothers David and Louis Skanson.
Pallbearers were Mike Murphy, Jack Murphy, Pat Murphy, Nathaniel McArdell, David McArdell and Joshua Rekstad.
Could be the same Jeanette, age 18, who on June 5, 1944 married Malcome Davis, 25 in Cleveland COuty, Arkansas.
