"William Bacon FitzJerrell was born on October 3, 1815 in Warren County, OH. He was the son of Eli(Ely) FitzJerrell and Tabitha Kelsey. About 1830 he moved to the Greene/Macoupin County Illinois area. He married Elizabeth Courtney on November 10, 1836 in Greene County, Illinois. William Bacon was a judge, farmer in Montgomery County and an Elder in the Primitive Baptist Church. Elizabeth and William had at least seven children; William, Tabitha-Ash, Cyrus, Naomi-Lawler, Harriet-Thomas, Gennetty and Meredith (David) FitzJerrell. After Elizabeth's death in 1883 he married Keziah (maiden name unknown), William is buried next to Elizabeth in the Asbury Cemetery."

January 1885 Alma, Park County "An odd coincidence is that John Ash went up onto Mt. Brass the day election and located a claim which he called Cleveland, after his choice for president. In order to square his boundaries he had to lap over a patented claim which he afterward discovered to be the J. G. Blaine."

August 1887 Castle Rock " Hardy Epperson, of Platte Canon, and John W. Ash of Colorado City, were in town last Wednesday making a transfer of property. Mr. Epperson exchanges his ranch near Platte Canon for one owned by Mr. Ash, in South Park."

"COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Sept 24. John W. Ash, an old time resident of Colorado, died this morning. He was 61 years of age at the time of his death. He hud been a resident of Colorado for twenty-five years and freighted to Leadville in the early days. He leaves a son and daughter. The funeral will be held in this city Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock."

"John was the husband of Tabitha Ash and the father of Nettie. Aged 61 yrs, 8 months, and 12 days. At the residence of his son, Adelbert Ash, John Wesley Ash died in Colorado City. He was born in Jackson County, Illinois in January 6, 1836. He was one of a large family and has brothers, half brother, and sisters residing in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and California. He, with his family, arrived in Colorado 25 years ago and he has been a resident ever since. For a number of years he resided in Colorado City and owned the land which east Colorado City and Stump's addition now occupy. During the old Leadville days, he had a freighting outfit on the road between Colorado City and Leadville. The last years were spent on his ranch located in Douglas County, some 20 miles from Denver. For the last 30 years, John Ash had been more or less an invalid. When he was a young man, he married Tabitha Fitzgerald. They had nine children, two that still survived at his death, Mrs. W.P. Epperson and Adelbert Ash, both residents of Colorado City. On February 18, 1883 Tabitha died at her home in Colorado City. John never remarried. In November of 1896, John travelled to Excelsior Springs, Missouri in the hope of getting well. He suffered from cancer. He returned in worse health. He lived the rest of his life in the homes of his son and daughter in Colorado city. John passed way from cancer under the care of Dr. Briscoe. The funeral was held in the First Baptist Church. The Rev. C.M. Reid officiated. He was interred in Evergreen Cemetery beside Tabitha and his daughter, Nettie."
