Marysville, Kansas " Louis Mentgen of Sterling, Colo.,
who formerly resided in this county for many years, living on the farm
southeast of this city, died at San Antonio, Texas,
Thursday night at 11:30 o'clock from uremic poisoning. He was
forty-six years, six months and three days old. He had been in ill health for days prior to his death he was taken to San Antonio
in hopes that the change of climate would he beneficial to him.
The body was taken to his home at Sterling and the funeral was conducted
there by Rev. Father Sassa. Deceased was a member of the Catholic church,
the Knights of Columbus and the Modern Woodman lodge.
Louis Mentgen was born at Peru, La Salle County, Illinois,
on July 1, 1870. In 1884 he came to this county with his parents and
the family made their home on the farm southeast of this city. On
leaving the farm, he went to Edina, where he engaged in the mercantile
business. He remained there but a few months and in 1890 he went to
Wymore, and formed a partnership with his brother, Aloys,
in the mercantile business.
On May 1, 1900 he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Freitag,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Casper Freitag of this city, the ceremony
being performed here. When the big fire at Wymore in 1900 destroyed,
among other business houses, that of the Mentgens,
Louis Mentgen went to Sterling, to assist his brothers in conducting
their large department store and since then has made his home there.
To Mr. and Mrs. Mentgen were born seven children, five sons and two
daughters, all of whom, with Mrs. Mentgen survive him.
The children are: Louis, Olga, Edward, Lulu, Adolph, Carl, and Arthur.
He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Christina Mentgen of this city;
four sisters, Mrs. Mary Uriel of Sterling. Mrs. John Freitag of King Hill,
Idaho; Mrs. O. C. Cooper of south of Marysville; Mrs. p. Wadham of Marysville:
five brothers, Wm., Frank, and Edward, all of Sterling,
Aloys, of Wymore, and Henry Mentgen of south of Marysville."

Mitchell, now of
Los Angeles, has been learned here. She wns married Tuesday morning
in Sterling to Louis Mentgen of that city.
The Sterling Advocate says of the wedding:
At a beautiful and impressive ceremony this morning at 8 o'clock
at St. Anthony's church, Miss Hazel Holmes Mitchell of Los Angeles,
become the bride of Louis Mentgen of Sterling. Rev. C. H. Hagus,
pastor of the church, officiated the ceremony.
The altar of the church was adorned with baskets of gladlolas
and yellow day lilies with palms being placed on either side of
the altar. Velma Heinleln played the Mendelesson wedding march as
the bridal party entered the church.
During the ceremony, Mrs, Kenneth C. King sang "Ave Maria"
and Carl Mentgen sang "I Love You Truly." The choir of St.
Anthony's church furnished music during the high mass.
The bride's gown was a gorgeous creation of white satin,
made floor length In front, with a long train in the back.
An all-over lace formed the bodice and upper part of the sleeves,
combined with white tatln fitting close at the wrists.
Her veil was held in place by a pretty crown of orange
blossoms. She carried a bridal of pink rosebuds and lilies of
the valley. Her only jewelry waa a string of crystals,
a gift of tho bridegroom. Miss Margaret Weston was
the brldeamald and was attractive in a yollow flat crepe
dress, trimmed in lace, made ankle length. She wore a
yellow satin bow on the side. She carried a bouquet of
pink and lavender sweet peas. Edward Mentgen, brother of
the bridegroom, was the best man.
Mrs. Mentgen is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Mitchell of Los Angeles,
former Sterling residents. She was graduated from the
Sterling high school in the class of 1924, later
attending State Teachers college at Greeley,
and taught at New Haven for two years. She attended the
University of California at Los Angeles and has made
her home since that time in Los Angelei. Mr. Mentgen is
the son of Mrs. Lou Mentgen of Lincoln street.
He attended tho Sterling schools and is now employed
as salesman for the Western Sales company.
A wedding breakfast waa served to the
immediate relatives and bridal party at the home
of Mrs. Lou Mentgen, following the ceremony.
A large white wedding cake, decorated with a dainty
bride, underneath a silver bell, all under a white
archway, formed the centerpiece of the table.
Lighted white tapers in candlesticks were on either side of the cake.
Mr. and Mrs. Mentgen left this noon for a wedding trip to
Colorado Springs, after which they will make their home at 221 South
Third."

Mrs. Louis Menteen of Brush, were married at St. Mary's Catnonc Church
in Brush by the Rev. Hermon Leity. A quartette sang the mass and
John Kassnwir irayer. Robert Immel of Sterling played the nuptial music. Bemmalou Tomky
was maid of honor, and the bride's sister Elizabeth Saban, was bridesmaid.
The bridegroom's brother, Glen Mentgen, was best man.
The bride is a graduate of Ten Sleep High School and attended Barnes Business Cllege in Denver.
Mentgen, a graduate of Brush high School, also attended Barnes.
In Corpus Christi, Texas September 29, 1963 "Miss Janet Flint became the
bride of Glen Arnold Mentgen in a 1 pm ceremony in Corpus Christ
Cathedral. Sprays of white flowers decorated the altar.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mentgen of Boulder, Colo.
The bride wore a gown of white peau de soie with a bateau neckline
and an empire waist banded in seed pearls. The skirt which had Watteau
panels traced with pearls, ended in a train. A crown of pearls held
her veil of French illusion. She carried a cascade bouquet of white
carnations centered with a white orchid. Miss Jean Flint was
her sister's maid of honor. Bridesmaid was Mrs. Eldred Mentgen of Denver,
sister-in-law of the groom. They wore sheath dresses of gold and white
brocade with jackets and gold accessories. They carried fall flowers.
Eldred Mentgen was his brother's best man. Groomsman was Donald Flint,
brother of the bride. Howard Pyle III, Leroy Sieinocker, and Johnny Gotten
ushered. After a wedding trip to Victoria, Canada, the couple will live in
Denver. The bride is a graduate of Ray High School and the University
of Colorado. She attended Southwestern University.
The groom was graduated from Brush High School and Colorado...."
"James E. Saban, 68, of Benson, Ariz., died Aug. 22, 2005, in Benson. He lived in the area 20 years and previously resided in Wyoming and Colorado.
He was born Aug. 4, 1937, in Douglas, Wyo., to George William Saban and Mable Irene Townsend. James was a rancher and truck driver.
Services will be held at a later date in Worland, Wyo.
Preceded in death by his father, George William Saban.

"Patrick Carroll, 73, former resident of the Fullerton community
died Monday, January 9, in a Sterling, Colo., hospital.
He had been ill for three weeks. Born in Illinois, he came to
Fullerton in 1892. In 1901 he married Myrtle Cronland in
Columbus. The couple resided west of Fullerton until 1921,
when they moved to Logan county, Colorado, where they lived
until they retired from farming in 1949 and moved to Sterling.
He is survived by his wife: one brother, Dennis Carroll of
Iowa and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Immel of Sterling.

died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Mercy Regional Health Center.
Her family believes she entered her eternal rest.
She was born Jan. 29, 1906, in Wymore, the daughter of Hannah and
Louis Mentgen. She moved to Sterling, at the age of 5.
She worked as a dental assistant until she married Edward Bach in
1926.
Four children were born to this union.
Ed and Lula farmed in Oketo and Whiting communities and resided in
Beattie until they moved to Manhattan in 1966. After Ed's death in
1968, she married Paul Ehm in 1974. Her family says she lived
happily as a farm wife. Paul passed away in 1983. Mrs. Ehm's
family says she was a lover of nature, raising many wonderful
vegetables and flowers. For 17 years she raised flowers and
carried them to church to decorate the altars at St. Malachi's
church in Beattie. She also loved the arts, and oil-painted many
lovely landscapes that she shared with her family and friends.
Lula's zest for living was her faith and her dedication to her
home and children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hannah and Louis
Mentgen; and her brothers Louis, Adolph, Edward, Carl and Clarence
Mentgen.
Survivors include three daughters, Velma Osborn, Manhattan,
Dolores Schwerdt-feger, Merced, and Karen TJbben, Wichita;
three sons, Larry Bach, Blue Rapids, and Ralph Klein and Paul Ehm,
both of Manhattan; her sister, Olga Immel, Durante,
a brother, Arthur Mentgen, San Scott Daugherty."

R. F. Hadachek while Mmes. R. B.Becker and E. C. Scarborough were in charge of the coffee and punch.
Marilyn Harmon Fitzgerald was vocalist for
the reception and the wedding cake, a three tiered. The young couple is honey- mooning in San Francisco and platis to reside in El Monte where the bridegroom Is employed.
The former Miss Mentgen is a 1957 graduate of Pacific High School and attended two years at San Jose Slate College. Gardner is a 1935 graduate of Sheboygan Central High School and served four years in the United States Navy..

Columbus, Del Rosa council.

Judy Gardner of San Bernardino, Signe MacRae of Quarryville, Pa.

"Clara Ellen Wacker was born at Atlantic, Macon county,
Illinois, September 17, 1873, where she grew up to
womanhood. In 1895 she moved with her parents to
Stanberry, where on December 21, 1898, she was united in
marriage with A. P. Mentgen. Five children were born to
them, one of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Mentzen was
united with the Lutheran church in Decatur, I11.,
on March 25, 1888. Not having a home in her church at
Wymore, she united with St. Luke's Episcopal church
there, and was a faithful member, being president of
the ladies' auxiliary of that church at the time of
her death, which occurred at her home in Wymore,
November 13, 1915, at the age I of 42 years, 1 month,
27 days.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and
four children, Thelma, Kathrene, Doris and Louise;
also her mother, Mrs. Catherine Wacker,
of Newton, Kansas, and two sisters and two
brothers, Mrs. H. Ihlenfeldt of Townsend,
Mrs. H. D. Creagne of Dolan, S. ...George A. Wacker of
Edinburg, Ill., and J. H. Wacker of Newton, Kan.
The funeral service was conducted at the home by the
Episcopal clergyman, Rev. W. H. Moor, November 15, 1915,
and burial at the Catholic cemetery in North Blue
Springs. The funerral was largely attended and the
business houses were closed as a mark of respect.
The esteem in which the deceased was held in the
community was also strikingly evidenced by the wealth
of floral tributes, including offerings from five
public school grades, the high school and various
societies in the town."

Mrs. Giacomini, 78, of Sterling died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1986, at a Sterling nursing home.
She was born Nov. 14, 1899 in Stanberry, Mo., the daughter of A. P. and Ellen Wacker Mentgen, moving to Wymore, Neb., with her parents as a one-year-old child. She attended school in Wymore until her parents moved to Sterling in 1917, graduating from Sterling High School in 1918, then went to work for her uncle in the Mentgen Merchantile Store. For two years she worked in Denver for the Wheat Growers Association of Colorado as a secretary.
She married Lawrence Giacomini, June 29, 1925 and the couple made their home in Sterling where Mr. Giacomini established a law practice. She was the piano accompanist for Mr. Giacomini, who sang at many community events.
Mr. Giacomini, who became the "dean" of Sterling attorney's died March 14, 1986. Mrs. Giacomini was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, sang in the church choir of several years, Catholic Daughters of America, St. Anne Circle and Sterling Reviewers Club.
She is survived by two sons, Donald L. Giacomini of Denver and Robert W. Giacomini of Sterling, who practiced law with his father for many years and continues to operate the longtime Sterling law firm; two daughters, Helen M. McKenzie of Sterling and Jane E. Van Olinda of New York City, N.Y.; eight grand children; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are in charge of Tennant-Hettinger Funeral Home."

May 1909 " William M. Frobes, a guest at the home of W. B. Mentgen, died Friday of last week, after a very brief illness with pneumonia, a weak heart contributing to the disease’s fatality. Mr. Frobes, with his wife, had come to Sterling from Edina, Mo., and had been guests of the Mentgen families here for a week, Mr. Frobes having assisted in invoicing the Henderson, Powell & Blair hardware stock, which Mentgen Bros, were purchasing. Mr. Frobes was aged 49 years. The remains were taken East for interment."

passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Stella Baum of Callaway,
Sunday, following a second stroke of paralysis.
For about 48 years Mrs. Smith has been a resident of Blue Hill.
She was a faithful member of the Christian church and had a large
circle of friends, whose companionship she greatly enjoyed.
She is survived by two sons, Clyde and Charles, Red Cloud business men,
and four daughters, Mrs. Irene Merritt and
Mrs. Myrtle McLeod of Blue Hill, Mrs. Marguerite Mentgen of Sterling,
Colo., and Mrs. Stella Baum of Calloway. One daughter, Mildred Horn,
passed away several years ago. Fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren
and one brother Ira El Parks of Tomahawk, Wis. also survive her. Funeral services were held at Blue Hill
Wednesday and interment was made in the Blue Hill cemetery."
