March 1910 "Ray Powell, who will be remembered as having been injured to such an extent that his life was despaired of, some three monthß ago, was released from the hospital at Alliance Sunday last, and came up to this city the following day. Amputation of one leg, below the knee was necessary, but otherwise he has pulled through in good shape. He spent a couple of days here with numerous friends, and then started for his parents’ home at Hastings, Nebraska."

January 11, 1923 "The record of J. Frank Whittier as sheriff of Logan county, which ended today when Ray R. Powell succeeded to the office, has been unusual in many respects. It was the first sheriff’s administration that had to contend with the “moonshine” traffic under the condition of nation wide prohibition. So long as Wyoming was “wet" there was the "bootleg” traffic, the liquor being brought in from that state."

"Mrs. Lloyd Long died at the home of her father-in-law, William Long, in Bluff Creek township Tuesday evening. She was the daughter Mr. John Findley.
Some months ago she and her husband and two children were residents of, Albia and left here and went to Sterling, Colorado, where Mr. Long had employment on the railway. The altitude was too high for the lady and she was forced to return to this community.
The husband was in Sterling at the time of her death. Leakage of the heart was the cause of death. The funeral will be held next Sunday."

Mr. Long died in a Greeley, Colo. nursing home following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Monday at Walters Funeral Home and burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Sterling. Mr. Long is survived by his step-mother of Alliance, Mrs. Ida Marsh, two daughters, Marilyn Long of Sterling and Janet Caster of Buckingham, Colo., a brother, Carl Long of Denver, and one grandson. Mrs. Marsh attended the services in Sterling."
