Lucy A. (Owen) Shaffer, 8 South 50 West


In 1850 McHenry County, Illinois, Ambrose Owens is 37, Maria A. 23, LUCIA 6, Syrar 4, Stella newborn.

In 1856 Fayette County, Iowa, Ambrose Owen is 41, Meroah 28, Lucia 12, Syren 10, Stella 6, and Hettie 4.

In 1860 Fayette County, Iowa, Ambrose Owen is 40, L. M. 35, LUCIA 15, Siren 14, Estella 10, and Edda 8.

In 1880 Fayette County, Iowa, Simon Shaffer is 44, Lucy A. 36, Ina 13, Stella nine months.

Simon Shaffer, dying May 11, 1892, age 56, is buried in Knox County, Nebraska # 92548544.

In 1900 Knox County, Nebraska, Mary, born October 1884, is with uncle Earnest M. Owen 31. Lucia H. Shaffer is 56, Stella G. 20. Ambrose 86 and Marva G. Owen 75 are with them.

"Mr. Ambrose Owen died last Friday, March, 1902 at his home six miles southeast of town, aged 87 years, 9 months and two days.
He was born in Chittenden County, Vermont in 1814 and was married to Miranda L. Diggins, March 23, 1844 in McHenry County, Illinois and enjoyed 58 years of married life.
He was the father of five children, three daughters and two sons, all of whom with the wife survive him.
He joined the Christian church 35 years ago and has since lived a consistent Christian life. He was an honorable upright citizen, a good neighbor and respected by all who knew him.
About three years ago, he suffered a severe sickness from which he never fully recovered.
Funeral services were held at the family home by Rev. F.J. Kennedy Monday and burial made in the Creighton cemetery."

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Mary Cook is 25, married five years. She's had three kids, one living. William O. 4 was born in Nebraska. Her mother Lucy A. Shaffer 66, widowed born in Illinois, is with her.

In 1920 Kit Carson County, Stella G. Groves is 40, married to Ora A. 46. Her mother Lucia Shaffer 75 is with them, and their five sons.

Lucia, 85, is with Orren 56 and Stella 50 in 1930 Kit Carson County, Max 18 and Merton L. 15 Gores with them.

Lucia 1844-1934 is buried in Knox County (# 92548543 has her born in 1882)

LUCY'S BROTHER ERNEST

In 1870 Clayton County, Iowa, Ambrose Owen is farming, 54, Maria 43, Syron 24, Stella 20, Etta 17, and Ernest 2.

In 1880 Clayton County, Iowa, Ambros "Ownes" is 66, Lusia M. 54, both born in Vermont, and Ernest M. 12 born in Iowa.

Mrs. Cooley was one of the really estimable old ladies of Flagler, always quiet and greatly devoted to her home and children.
In early childhood she came with her parents to West Union, Fayette County, Iowa, later moving to McGregor, Iowa, where she was married to Robert Reed Cooley on 10 Dec 1874.
In 1886 she came with her husband and children to Plainview, Nebraska, where they resided until 1910 when they disposed of their property and came to Flagler, Kit Carson County, Colorado where they lived on a farm just west of town until a short time ago when the deceased and her son, Glenn, moved to town to property he recently purchased.
She also leaves a brother, Ernest M. Owen of Flagler, and a sister, Mrs. Lucy Shaffer who makes her home with Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Groves just south of Flagler.

STELLA

Stella G. Shaffer, 22, married in Knox County on Dec 25, 1901, Orren A. Groves, 28 born in Iowa to W. A. and E. L. Groves.

In 1920 Kit Carson County, Stella G. Groves is 40, married to Ora A. 46. Her mother Lucia Shaffer 75 is with them, and their five sons.

Stella is buried in Flagler, 1879-1983 # 15795016, with Orren Abel Groves 1873-1950, # 15794993.

Earl Harold Groves, born in Creighton, Nebraska Oct 18, 1902, died in Andrews Texas on Feb 18, 1974, spouse Johnnye L. (Cox) Allen Groves. They had married in Andrews County on APril 18, 1947.
Earl # 82942767 and Johnnye are buried in Andrews.

Lucia, 85, is with Orren 56 and Stella 50 in 1930 Kit Carson County, Max 18 and Merton L. 15 Gores with them.

Lucia 1844-1934 is buried in Knox County (# 92548543 has her born in 1882)

MARY

Mary I. "Shoffer", 20, daughter of Simon and Lucie Shoffer, married Ralph E. Cook on April 26, 1905 in Creighton, Knox County, Nebraska.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Mary Cook is 25, married five years. She's had three kids, one living. William O. 4 was born in Nebraska. Her mother Lucy A. Shaffer 66, widowed born in Illinois, is with her.

Mary claimed 160 acres in section 8, 8S 50W in 1912.

In 1920 Flagler, Mary I. Hicks is widowed, 35, working in a confectionary. She's in a boarding house.

Mary Hicks, 35, married Dewey Miller on Oct 12, 1920 in Hugo, Colorado.

Dewey, 35 and Mary, 45 are in Decatur County, Kansas in 1930, with William O. Cook 24 and Mary G. Hicks 18.

In 1940 Decatur County, Dewey is a storekeeper, 45, born in Colorado, with Mary 55. Mary's daughter Mary G. Roulier is 28, married to Earnest A. Roulier, 26, a caretaker at a state lake.

Dewey is buried in Flagler 1896-1973 # 15795055, and so is Mary 1884-1956 # 15795030.

Buried in the Dresden, Kansas cemetery is "Miller Alice G. Walkey (nee Launchbaugh) - July 23, 1895 - October 25, 1993 - 2nd marriage Dewey Miller"
Buried next to her is "Walkey Earle R. 1896 1943"
FindaGrave # 20298422 has "Married Earl Walkey on July 27, 1916 in Union Township, Sheridan Co., KS."
"Alice G. (Launchbaugh) Miller, 98, formerly of 420 Colorado St., died Monday at Wharton Manor Nursing Home, where she was a resident since 1987.
Mrs. Miller was born July 23, 1895 in Sheridan County. She was married to Earle Walkey on July 27, 1916 in Dresden. He died in December 1943.
She married Dewey Miller in June 1960. He died in April 1973.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Miller was a longtime member of the Dresden Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Dresden and later in Manhattan. She was member of the Manhattan First CongregationUnited Church of Christ. She lived in Dresden, Norton, Phillipsburg and Colby before moving to Manhattan. Survivors include three daughters, Irva Gishwiller, Manhattan, Ila Ruggless, Abilene, and Nelva Heniger, Aurora, Colo.; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren."

Ernest Roulier 1914-1988, # 15702533 is buried in Flagler, with Golden Roulier 1911-1971 # 15702513.
