John R. and Eva M. (Butler) Vieths, 7 South 50 West



Dittmer Louis Vieths 1824-1917 is buried in Potter, Nebraska # 135943055, with Sarah (Berger) Vieths 1834-1891 # 16058541.
One Illinois history says "family's name was Berger. They had six girls and three boys. One of the girls married Ditmer Vieths, and one girl, Catherine, married a preacher by the name of Arndt - Sam Arndt's father. Sam Arndt had a cigar store in Rock Island some years ago.
"Mary (Vieths) Hehnke was born in Illinois, September 25, 1852, and died at St. Edward, November 4, 1925. She was always active in helping her neighbors, and was vitally interested in giving her children a thorough education. Her father, Ditmer Vieths, was born at Holstein, Germany, and died at Potter, Nebraska, in 1917. Her mother, Sarah (Burger) Vieths, was born in Pennsylvania, and died at St. Edward, in 1892."

John is a farm laborer in 1900 Webster County, Nebraska, working for Andrew Arnold and his large family.

In 1880 Page County, Iowa, Eva is 7. Her parents Chat H. 46 and Louisa, farming, have Charles 8, Eva 7, Mary 4, and Albert 2. They're with Samuel Butler 86 and Jane 76.

In 1885 Page County, Iowa, Chatfield Butler is 52, Louisa 41, with Charley C. 13, Eva M. 11, Mary L. 9, Albert F. 6, Lizzie J. 2, and Dora B. newborn. Jane Butler is 82.

In 1900 Gage County, Nebraska, C. H. is widowed, 66, Eva 27, Mary 24, Albert 22, Lizzie 18, and Dora 16.

Mary and Albert Butler moved to Flagler, Mary marrying Ernest Owen, Albert marrying Clara Pettey.

"The remains of Mrs. Louisa Butler, of Odel, Neb., were brought to this city by her husband, Mr. Chat. B. Butler, Monday evening, for interment in the city cemetery. She died Friday, Mar. 30, 1900, from an abscess of the brain, after an illness of only four days. Mrs. Butler was a sister of John and Henry Annan , and the former was called to Odel last week by her illness. For many years they lived just north of the state asylum and have many relatives and acquaintances in this county. Mr. Butler is a half brother of William and Jacob Butler. Funeral services were held at her late home in Odel, and also at the home of John Annan, Tuesday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Dr. T. O. Smith.

Eva is in Gage County, Nebraska in 1900, born May 1873 in Iowa, with widowed father C. H. Butler June 1833 Indiana. Mary is 24, Albert 22, Lizzie 18, and Dora March 1884, all five born in Iowa.

Dora married William Wolverton, and they also lived in Flagler.

John R. Vieths, 28, son of Dittmer Vieths and Sarah Berger, married Eva M. Butler, 27, daughter of C. H. Butler and Louise Amman, on March 5, 1901 in Gage County.

In 1910 John is in Smith County, Kansas, working in a creamery, married eight years but no spouse, 38, born in Iowa, lodging with Jay and Mary Falkinburg.

John proved up a quarter in 13, 7S 51W in 1912, and another 40 acres in section 32, 7S 50W in 1921

They're in Phillips County, Kansas in 1915 - J.R. 43, E. M. 42, and Harvey 9.

In 1920 Kit Carson County, John is farming, 47, with Eva M. 46, both born in Iowa. Son Harvey M. 15 was born in California.

1928 Joes, Colorado items "Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Snyder were calling Sunday on the Jake Wolverton and John Vieths families at Flagler."

John and Eva are alone in 1930 Kit Carson County, farming.

John Robert Vieths 1872-1931 is buried in Flagler, # 13493737.

So is Eva May (Butler) Vieths 1873-1960 # 142216417.

HARVEY

Harvey, 23, married Ruby S. Pederson on January 28, 1928 in Flagler.
Their fathers were witnesses.

They're in Adams County, Idaho in 1940, Harry 35, Ruby 33, with Lawrence R. 11 and Stanley W. 9.

He's buried in Adams County, Idaho 1904-1974 # 11920703, with Ruby S. (Pederson) Vieths 1906-1986 # 11920704.
Ruby's parents Otto 1879-1933 and Mary A (Heaton) Pederson 1884-1958 are buried in Flagler.
