"John Ibert was born in the year 1852, July 26th, in New Philadel phia, Tuscarawas county, Ohio. He was baptized in the Lutheran church in his youth. He came west in early life to Jewell county, Kansas, and in the year 1879 he was united in marriage to Miss Jane Scammey, June 15th. To this union were born one son and four daughters. Mr. Eibert came to western Kansas in the spring of .1887 and fettled on a homestead where he has been a faithful farmer ever since. Mr. Ibert became ill some time he quietly passed away at his home in Sheridan county, Kansas. His children were all present: Lonney M. Ibert and Mrs. Ruby Blackburn, who made their home with him; Mrs. Villa Massingill and Mrs. Mabel Rodle, of Hoxie, Kansas; and Mrs, Mary Morton, of Colorado. Mr. Ibert died oh Thursday morning at 4:30. He was 58 years, 3 months and 15 days He leaves devoted wife, five Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. Foster, pastor1 of the C. U. church at Dresden, Kansas. The body was laid to rest in the Hoxie cemetery. "

"Longtime Kit Carson County resident, Lucie Maie Burd Fogg passed away on April 16,2008 at the Greeley County Hospital. She was 79 years old. Lucie was born on May 18,1928 to William Burton and Mable Alice (Elbert) Burd in Kit Carson County, Colorado. She was one of the five children born to this union. She had one sister and three brothers.
She attended school in Vona, graduated from Vona High School in 1946.
She met and married Hobert Loyd Fogg on July 23,1946 in Goodland, Kansas. To this union there were four children born, William, Loyd, Linda and Vicky.
Lucie had many hobbies, she loved to do such as playing bingo, spending time with her grandchildren, cooking and taking care of her beautiful roses.
She is survived by her children, Loyd and his wife Tammy Fogg of Goodland, Kansas, Linda Tannehill and her husband Ken of Sterling, Colorado. Vicky Tillery and her husband Terry of Dumas, Texas, one brother Orville Burd and his wife Katie of Vona, Colorado, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son William Loyd, one granddaughter Brande L. Tannehill, one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services were held on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington with Reverand Tom Peacock officiating. Burial followed at the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. Visitation was held on Sunday, April 20, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington."

"Longtime Vona resident Orval "PeeWee" Burd passed away at Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013. He was 87 years old.
PeeWee as he was known by his friends was born Aug. 22, 1926 to William B. and Mabel A. (Eibert) Burd.
He was the third of five children born to this union. He had two older brothers and two younger sisters.
He attended school at the Pond Creek Country School and Vona School.
He entered into the US Army in December 1944 and was honorably discharged in November 1946.
PeeWee met and married his wife of 60 years, Kathryn (Katy) Joan Waldron on Feb. 10, 1949 in Stratton. They were blessed with six children, Larry, Rick, Lana, Rod, Lori and Russ.
They raised their family in Vona where PeeWee farmed, worked road construction building I-70, ran the Bonny Marina and Burd Hydraulics.
He was happiest when in his shop with his old tools, visiting with his friends, family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Katy, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his children Larry (Chris) of Grand Forks, ND; Rick (Karen) of Ault; Lana Wolf (Bill) West Point, Neb.; Rod (Donna) of Lubbock, Texas; Lori Bolin (Steve) of Burlington and Russ (Joanne) of Arlington, Va., 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. "
Richard “Rick” Eugene Burd, 71, passed away on August 9, 2022, at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. Rick was born on December 31, 1950, in Burlington, Colorado to Orval and Kathryn (Waldron) Burd. Rick grew up in Vona, Colorado and graduated from Vona High School in 1968 where he played football, basketball and baseball. After high school, Rick attended Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas to play basketball. He later attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado while working for a farmer west of Ault. In 1978, Rick began working for Farmers National Bank in Ault, Colorado as a Loan Officer. Rick rose through the ranks becoming Senior Vice President of Ag Lending. In 1991, Rick purchased a farm east of Ault where he ran a cow calf operation and farmed. In 1993, Rick married the love of his life, Karen Williams-Simpson. After they were married, Karen and her children, Jake and Lisa Simpson moved to the farm and helped build it over the next 22 years.
Rick was a Banker, Farmer, Rancher, Cowboy, accomplished Fly Fisherman, Team Roper, Dutch Oven Cook and avid Golfer. When Rick took on an activity or hobby, he totally immersed himself until he mastered it.
Rick was a great friend who loved swapping tales with people on the golf course, around the card table, on the riverbank or in the roping arena.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Orval James Burd and Kathryn Joann (Waldron) Burd.
Rick is survived by his wife of 29 years, Karen D. Burd; his son, Jacob “Jake” Simpson and daughter in law, Sarah; granddaughter, Katie of Greeley, Colorado; daughter, Lisa Simpson, and son in law, Lucas; grandson, Everett; granddaughters, Linnea and Lillia of Clarkdale, Arizona; his siblings, Larry (Chris) Burd of Grand Forks, ND, Lana (Bill) Wold of West Point, NE, Rod (Donna) Burd of Lubbock, TX, Lori (Steve) Bolin of Burlington, CO, and Russ (Joanne) Burd of Arlington, VA. He is also survived by thirteen nieces and nephews and fifteen great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Saturday, September 3rd at 5 pm at Burd Ranch, the ranch Rick loved.
