"Susan Delilah Copeland was born Nov. 10th, 1848, In the state of Illinois, and was married to Adrian P. Burd in November, 1866.
To this union seven children were born. They are: Chas. A. of Towner, Stephen, Will and A. C. of Kanorado, Lula Davis of Enid, Oklahoma; Albert A. of Colby, and Lydia Kirkendall of Natoma, Ks.
All of the children were present at the funeral except Albert, who was prevented by sickness. In an early day she, with her husband, united with the Methodist church. Her husband preceded her to that better world twenty-eight years ago last December. They moved to Jewell county in 1871 and settled on a homestead on Brown's Creek, five miles west of Jewell City, and this was their home until her husband's death, when she went farther west to be with her children. For the past twelve years her home has been in Kanorado, Ks. She died on August 6th, 1920, at Waconda Springs, Ks., of apoplexy, being 71 years, 8 month and 28 days old.
She leaves to mourn her death seven children, thirty-four grand children, and three great grand children, together with a host of friends.
She was burled at the Couch cemetery at Jewell. The services were in charge of Hev. Smith of Mankato, at McCabe Chapel. The Burd family lived for a number of years near Natoma, and have many friends here who grieve with the children the loss of their mother.

Cheyenne, Wyoming "Lawrence Lloyd Burd, 82, after a long battle of cancer, has gone home to be with our Lord. He died Oct. 26, 2011 at Davis Hospice Center.
He was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Kanorado, Kan., to Everett and Grace Burd. He graduated from high school in Goodland, Kan., and was a retired restaurant manager. He loved watching Christian musical DVDs and researching ancestors for the many books of his family tree. When he could, he attended Happy Jack Country Church. He was a man of few words. He loved being with his family.
He is survived by his children, Dwight (Jeanette) Burd of Cheyenne, Mark (Pam) Burd of Cheyenne, Lawrence (Barbara) Burd of Cheyenne, Yolanda (Eddie) Dunn of Palacias, Texas, Valen (Joni) Burd of Phoenix and Melanie (Bryan) People of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, Allen (Cheryl) Burd, Derrick (Abby) Burd, Kendall (Charlene) Burd and Danette (Kris) Hagar, all of Cheyenne, Jennifer Burd of Greeley, Colo., Jeremiah Burd, stationed in Norfolk, Va., while serving in the U.S. Navy, Desiree' (Justin) Able of Kingwood, Texas, Timothy Dunn and Jenna Dunn of Palacios, Katy Burd and Levi Burd of Phoenix and Angelique (Michael) Culver of England; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin (Eunice) Burd of Gentry Ariz., Keith (Deloris) Burd of Montrose, Colo.; sister, Rowena Keck of Calapatria, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews."

"On June 9, 2023, Rowena (Burd) Keck passed away at East Morgan County Hospital. Rowena was 96 years old. She was born in Kanorado, Kansas on March 13, 1927, to Everett and Grace Burd.
Rowena was raised in Kanorado and graduated from High School there. She later married Harold Keck. They had three children Delana, Mervin (Linda), Stephen. All three of her children have proceeded her in death. Later in life, after Harold passed away, she married Vele Keck and they lived in Calipatria, CA. Where they lived for 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, painting, and putting puzzles together. After her second husband passed away, she moved to Brush to be closer to family.
Rowena had 4 brothers Dwaine, Melvin (Eunice), Lawrence, Keith (Deloris).
She has 9 grandchildren, Tad (Loretta) Anderson, Brush CO, Brad (Nina) Anderson, Pueblo CO, Deedee (Earl) Fujitani, Aiea HI, Trina (Jenn) Anderson, Parrish FL, Tiana (Michael) Anderson, Aurora CO, Bridget (John) Stephens, Moore OK, Brenna Keck, OK, Brooke Keck, OK, David (Tara) Keck, Loveland CO.

"Melvin Richard Burd, 90, of Gentry, Arkansas, died May 16, 2016, at his home. Born October 24, 1925, in Kanorado, Kansas, he was the son of Everett Winfield Burd and Ella Grace (Gilbert) Burd. Melvin and Eunice Tonsing were married November 9, 1952. He was a mechanic, farmer and Volunteer Fire Chief for the Hygiene, Colorado department. Melvin served his county in the Marines during World War II and was at Imo Jima and Guam. He received a Purple Heart. Melvin was an honorary member of the VFW of Siloam Springs, Arkansas and the Elks Club in Goodland, Kansas. Melvin was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Decatur, Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant daughters, two brothers Dawaine and Lawrence and one grandson Wyatt Edgar.
Survivors include his wife Eunice of the home; daughters Debra Landreth of Conway, Arkansas and Denise Cripps and husband Randy of Gentry, Arkansas; sons Kevin B. Burd of Wellsville, Kansas and Joel E. Burd and wife Dawn of Longmont, Colorado; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; brother Keith Burd and wife Delores of Montrose, Colorado; sister Rowena Keck of Brush, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Falling Springs Cemetery, near Decatur, Arkansas. Memorial services will follow at First Assembly of God, Decatur, Arkansas."

Muriel's father : June 1949 Yucaipa, California "Death came Friday morning to Charley Sherman Barnes at his home, 289 E. Yucaipa Blvd He was 78 years of age. He suffered a heart attack while making repairs on his home. A resident of Yucaipa for five years, Mr. Barnes was born in Johnson county, Iowa, August 22, 1870. April 1, 1901, he was married to Hattie C. Jones. The couple had five children, one of whom, Lester H. Barnes, is deceased.
In addition to his widow, he leaves one son, Virgil D. Barnes, of Los Angeles; three daughters, Mrs. H. Admire of Gooding, Idaho, Mrs. W. L. Burd of Hot Springs, New Mexico, and Mrs. Lyle Drescher of Yucaipa; nine grandchildren and one great grandson, Seven sisters and one brother also survive. Also surviving are five sons, Eugene Mills of Issnquar, Mark Mills of Freemont, Texas, Jeff Mills of Clulskine, Craig Mondcau of Orange, and Richard Mills of Milwaukre, and four stepdaughters, Jaci Howieson of Rawlins, Tcri Schwindt of California, Toddi Darlington and True Newberry of Rawlins. Fourteen grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren also survive. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First United Methodist Church would be appreciated.

Mr. Mills died Feb. 14. 1993. He was born Sept. 14, 1921, in Kanorado, the son ofJohn Hannon and Susan Jane (Burd) Mills. He was raised and educated in Kansas, and then served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was later stationed in Japan. Mr, Mills was employed as a cross-country truck driver for Ringsby, North West and Permian Corp. He also worked for United Parcel Service and retired from the Wyoming Highway Department in 1987. He later returned to work at the WHD until October of 1992. He married Ila Black in Kansas and she preceded him in death. He married Joyce Black in Colorado.

Lowell LeRay Demaree, son of the late Ivan Harold and Gladys E. (Burd) Demaree, was born January 24, 1937, in Kanorado, Kansas, and passed away October 13, 2021, in Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 84 years, 7 months, and 19 days.
Lowell graduated from Kanorado High School and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. In 1959, he was united in marriage to Priscilla Szohner. After moving to Alva in 1960, he established his Chiropractic Clinic. He served Alva and the surrounding area 50 years. On July 16, 1988, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Strickland in Alva.
He was a member of the Kanorado First United Methodist Church. He was E.R. twice for the Alva Elks Lodge and a member for 50 plus years, and a member of the Alva Moose Lodge and the Alva Jaycees. He served several years on the Oklahoma Chiropractic Board of Examiners.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Lowell Brian Demaree; two daughters, Cheryl Demaree and Michelle Demaree; two brothers, Thurl Demaree and Dean Demaree; and one sister, Barbara Molesworth.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of Alva; two daughters, Sandy Gleyre of Alva and Theresa Blalock and husband, Don, of Chester; his step-children, Karie Parsons and husband, Jon, of Shawnee, Kansas, and David Lee Odell of Sarasota, Florida; and two special nieces, Lorie Hessler of Stockton, Kansas, and Kathy Hafliger of Hayes, Kansas.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, Kara Kirkham and husband, Ian, of Alva, Krystofer Gleyre and wife, Stephanie, of Alva, Christa Fraire and husband, Tino, of Alva, Stacia Cates and husband, Theron, of Balko, Rachel Cunningham and husband, Trevor, of Alva, Cassie Gordon of Denver, Colorado, Michael Duval and wife, Heather, of Oklahoma City, Marcus Duffy and wife, Laura, of Denver, Colorado, Matthew Duffy of Oklahoma City, Johnny Duffy and wife, Chelsea, of Seiling, Donald Blalock of Chester, Maree Gerolymatos and husband, Peter, of Kansas City, Missouri, Oliver Parsons and wife, Courtnie, of San Antonio, Texas, Kaelynn Parsons and fiancé, Jeff Bryant, of Shawnee, Kansas, Maegann Parsons and partner, Tara Sears, of Denver, and Stacey Shertz; other relatives and many friends."


BARBARA JOYCE "BJ" Lansing Beloved wife, mother, and grandly mother (Grams), was born into this life March 11, 1935 and departed this world on a journey into eternal life on January 23, 1995. She was born in her grandmother's home in Kanorado, KS, the daughter of Prince and Gladys Demaree. She was married in her parent's home in Kanorado to John Molesworth on October 27, 1957.
Barbara attended school in Kanorado, KS, and later Colorado State Teachers College in Greely, CO. She worked for several different businesses as well as oper-" ating several businesses of her own. She was an accomplished artist and taught private art classes. One of her most enjoyable experiences was teaching arts and crafts to the mentally and physically handi-. capped.
She was Director of the Geographical Center Historical Society Museum and Village during the Centennial Celebration in Rugby, ND, where her innovations and artistic endeavors remain to this She moved to the Lansing area in August of 1991 where she and John were associated with Michigan State University. She belonged 'to several organizations including Folk, H.E.L.O. Club, and several of their special interest She had been associated with University Lutheran Church and had received outstanding spiritual support from them. Even though she had lived in the area for only a short time, she leaves many dear friends who have been very supportive during her illness and whom she appreciated very much. Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys.
To remember her with loving memories and carry on her works in this world, she "leaves her husband, John; 2 sons and families, Wayne and his wife, Leonita and their children, Angela, Eric and Shannon of Liberty Lake, Wa, and Mark and his children, -Bethany and Drew of Bismarck, ND; her father, Ivan (Prince) of Goodland, KS; brothers. John Molesworth, DVM, Age 71. born in Brewster, Kansas, died in Posen, Michigan in September 2008.
"Thurl Eugene Demaree, 79, former Goodland resident, died Friday, April 28, 2006, at the Hays Medical Center.
He was born on July 18, 1926, in Kanorado to Ivan and Gladys (Burd) Demaree.
He married Harriet Smith, Aug. 31, 1948, in Goodland. He was a World War II Army veteran of the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and the Japan Army of Occupation.
Survivors include his wife, Hays; a son, Bruce Demaree, Wichita; two daughters, Kathy Hafliger and Denise Demaree, both of Hays; a brother, Lowell Demaree, Alva, Okla.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Hays. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Mountain Standard Time in Goodland at the Goodland Cemetery .
Memorials are suggested to Goodland High School Alumni Scholarship for a senior attending Fort Hays State University."

SYLVIA

Sylvia E. Burd, 23, is a teacher in 1930 Wallace County, Kansas, lodging with the Weble family.

In 1938, a paper on sunspots "The writer wisheds to acknowledge the efficiency of Miss Sylvia BUrd, who spent nearly a thousand hours making the necessary routine calculations."

In 1940 she's in Los Angeles, working in the computer field, a coanion to Cahs. S. Young 47 and his sister Ruby Kalbrugh, and Cha' kids Carolyn 8 and Galon 4.
She had been in Lawrence, Kansas in 1935.

Sylvia is working a computer in 1950 Los Angeles, single.

1962 "mm were obtained, one on October 22, with the 200-inch and one on December 5, with the 100-inch. The first spectrum (measured by Miss Sylvia Burd ) revealed an effective magnetic field of He = +997 ±125 gauss. On October 22, the field was H6 = +574 ± 60 gauss,"


She was working at the Mount Wilson Observatory "HD 187474 is a single-lined spectroscopic binary. This was discovered by Sylvia Burd at Palomar Observatory, and the result was communicated to S. Leeman by Babcock. Leeman published the finding in 1964, along with orbital elements derived by Burd. The initial estimate of the orbital period was 700 days.
