Former Yuma Boy is Casualty of War

A telegram from the war department on October 30, informed Mrs. Orville Burton that her husband had been killed in accident near Lancarvine, France, on October 25. Mr. Burton was inducted into the armed forces one year ago this month, and was sent to the European theater in May. A short time ago he was sent to an embarkation point in France, then it was decided that he did not have enough points for discharge, so was being sent into Germany for occupation. No details for the accident have been received.

Orville Albert Burton was born at Padroni, August 10, 1918 and received his education in Yuma county schools. He lived on a farm just west of Yuma with his parents Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Burton, until about ten years ago when the family moved to Denver.

In July, 1940 he was married to Margaret A. Greenfield of Yuma, and to this union two children, Larry Oren and Kerry Faye, were born. The little daughter was born two days following the father's death. Besides his wife, children and parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Wanda Montgomery of Hudson and Betty Lou of the home, two brothers, Kenneth of Eldorado, Texas and Marvin who is in the United States Maritime service, and his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Greenfield and family. His mother was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage a few days before the telegram arrived, so has not been informed of her son's death.

The young man was converted after his induction into the Army and became a member of the Methodist church. His wife and children live near Arvada.

Orville Burton to be Buried at Arvada

Word was received in Yuma that the body of Private Orville A. Burton was returned to the United States Monday of last week for burial. Graveside service will be held in Arvada in the near future.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burton, former Yuma residents, and the husband of Margaret Greenfield. He was killed in France in October 1945. Friends from Yuma plan to attend the service.

Last Rites Held for Orville Burton

Graveside services were held Wednesday at 2:00 o'clock for Private Orville A. Burton, who was killed near Tancarville, France, on October 25, 1945, in a motor vehicle accident. The young man formerly lived with his parents on a farm south of Yuma.

The body was brought to Arvada Wednesday morning, and service was held at Crown Hill cemetery, where Private Burton was laid in his final rest beside his mother. Services were private for the family and a few close friends. Among those attending were his father, H.D. Burton of Haxtun, Kenneth Burton and family of Cambridge, Nebraska, Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Greenfield and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Norris Josh of Yuma. One sister was unable to attend the service.
