Joseph and Mildred (Maitlen) Simmering

JOSEPH'S FAMILY

In 1900 Washington County, Iowa, Jacob Simmering is farming, born Dec 1859, married five years to Mary January 1868, both in Germany. She's had three kids, all living.
John Simmering is 15, Reeken 19, Jacob J. 14, Joseph J. Jan 1892, Henry J. Dec 1895, Anna March 1897, all kids born in Illinois, and Allie four months in Iowa. William Winkleman is 9, and Jacob's mother Anne 64 born in Germany is with them.

John Jacob Simmering 1885-1966 is buried in Washington County, Iowa # 152263701, with Nora Blanche (Waggoneer) Simmering 1882-1951.
His first wife Lottie (Maitlen) Simmering 1887-1908 is buried in the same cemetery $ 152411519, with daughter Sena 1908-1908.

Ricken (Simmering) Knottnerus 1887-1931 is buried in Washington County # 135252172, with Reemicius Toden Knottnerus 1863-1951.

Jacob Simmering, 24, married Helene Anna Maria Goosmar on Sept 21, 1915 in Canadian County, Oklahoma.

They're farming in El Reno, Canadian County in 1920, Jake 29, Lena 27, Bernadell and Beradine both 3.

In 1930 Canadian County, Jack is 39, Lena 38, Bernadell and Bernadine both 12, Helen 7, and Anna C. 3.

Lena is widowed in 1940 Canadian County, 46, with Helen F. 17 and Anna C. 13. Bernadell is 23, married to Rix Fouts 27 and Francis Rose Fouts is 5.

Lena is buried in El Reno, Oklahoma 1892-1971 # 33289065.

Jake is buried in Muscatine County, Iowa 1890-1970 # 75969985.
" His obituary stated he was survived by 3 unnamed daughters, "whereabouts unknown". He was a resident of Conesville at the time of his death, but died at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He was a retired farmer.
Jake was married several times. The mother of his children was not listed in his obituary. He married Osee Elnora Anthony, widow of Henry W. Hingst, on 17 December 1937 in Wapello, Louisa county, Iowa. She died on 18 September 1939 in Muscatine, Iowa. His obituary listed that he was survived by his wife of several months, Socorra Flores, married 20 March 1970 in Zar Hzoza, Zoahuila, Mexico.
Also surviving were his brother, Joseph Simmering of Colorado; two half-brothers, Jerry and Sam Simmering of Washington, Iowa; two half-sisters, Mrs. Albert Miller of Des Moines and Mrs. Ella Hancher of Chicago."

William E. Winkelman is buried in Cass County, Illinois 1890-1959 # 53365695, with Ida M. (Witte) Winkelman 1891-1968 # 53365710.

MILDRED'S FAMILY

In 1900 Washington County, Kansas, Joseph Kuhn is farming, 67, Nancy 77, with granddaughter Elizabeth Matlen 11.

In 1900 Washington County, S. H. Maitlen is 51, Ellen 42, Flroa 17, Lida 15, Lettie 13, Rena 8, Ernest 5, and Ollie born Dec 1899.

June 1908 Greeley, Colorado "The many friends of Mrs. Lottie Maitlen will he pained to hear of her death which occured on Wednesday June 17 at her home in Iowa."

"Lette Simmering, daughter of Sam Maitlan, born May 28, 1887 in Kansas, died June 17, 1908 in Washington County, Iowa, to be buried in Elm Grove.

September 1908 Greeley, Colorado "Miss Ella Brock, who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs. S. H. Maitlen for two weeks, left Friday for her home in Beatrice, Neb."

In 1910 Yuma County, Weld Precinct, S. H. Maitlen is a farm laborer, 61, born in Ohio, with Ellen 52 Indiana. Olive 10 was born in Kansas,k Mildren 7 in COlorado.
Ellen's father Joseph Kuhn, 77, born in Ohio, a solicitor is married, but no spouse.

Rebecca Ellen (Kuhn) Maitlen 1858-1928 is buried in Washington County, Kansas 83083995, with Samuel Harvey Maitlen 1849-1928 # 83083961.

JOSEPH AND MILDRED

Joseph Simmering, 28, born in Lincoln, Illinois to Jacob Simmering and Mary Winkelman, married Mildred Maitlen, 19, born in Colorado to Samuel Maitlen and Ellen Kuhn, on February 20, 1920 in Washington County, Iowa.

In 1930 Yuma County, Colorado, Joseph is farming, 37, born in Illinois, with Mildred 27, Flora M. 9, Irma J. and Imogene M. both 7, Robert 5, Stanley K. 2, and Donald B. 1, all born in Colorado.

They lived on the Duncan and Lydia McCall homestead.
This was provided by a Simmering relative to the Yuma Museum.

In 1940 Yuma County, Joseph J. Simmering is 49, Mildred 37, Robert F. 15, Stanley K. 14, Donald V. 11, Warren E. 9, and Jackie L. 7. "Mr. and Mrs. Donald Simmering and family of St. Louis, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Simmering and family of Farmington, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Simmering of Yuma, Colo,; Mrs. Ella S. Hancher and Susie and Arlene Houser of Chicago were weekend visitors at the home of Mrs. Jacob Simmering. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Simmering plan to visit at the parental home for several weeks before returning home."
(Ella Simmering was born January 26, 1900 in Washington Township, Iowa County, Iowa. She married Harold C. Hancher in Rock Island, Illinois in 1919. Harold Clark Hancher, born Jan 1, 1895, a laborer, died in Washington County Iowa on March 10, 1925, buried in Ainsworth Iowa. Ella died April 3, 2001, last residence Plainfield, Illinois)


Mr. and Mrs. Joe Simmering of 1550 Jefferson Street, Loveland, Colorado, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 1, 1970 at their home. They were married February 25, 1920 in Washington, Iowa. They returned to Mr. Simmering's homestead near Fleming, later moved to Yuma where they lived until 1959, and retired at Loveland.
Their children are: Mrs. Raymond (Flora) Richards of Wayland, Iowa, Mrs. Claude (Irene) Handy of San Dimas, California, Mrs. Ima Jean Jackson, deceased, Bob Simmering of Decatur, Georgia, Stan Simmering of St. Louis, Missouri, Don Simmering of Beaumont, California, Warren Simmering of York, Pennsylvania, Jack Simmering of Arkron, Mrs. Mel (Darlene) Stuadinger of Salem, Oregon, Jerry Simmering of Ontario, Oregon, and Mrs. Arthur (Dolores) Stephenson of West Covina, California.

Flora Marie (Simmering) Richards 1921-1991 is buried in Henry County, Iowa # 112270017, with Raymond M. Richards 1906-1977.

March 1939 "Triplets, born to Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert McNichols, died a short time after birth.

Irene J. Simmering, 17, married Wilbert H. McNichols on Dec 21, 1937 in Holyoke, Colorado.
In 1940 Yuma, Wilbert is 21, Irene 17, both born in Colorado. Alvira Simmering, niece 1, was born in Colorado.

IMOGENE

Imogen Mae Simmering, born Sept 17, 1922 in Fleming, Colorado, died March 4, 1944.

Imogene Jackson 1922-1944 is buried in Yuma # 50842353.
She was born September 17, 1922 at Fleming, and died March 4, 1944. When she was five her parents moved to Yuma, and she married Corwin Lee Jackson on May 3, 1937l To this union were born two sons, Corwin Lee Jr. and Harvey Eugene, and two daughters, Joyce Ellen and Donna Mae."

Corwin Lee Jackson 31, son of Millard O. and Dean Jackson, married Doris M. Schultz on Nov 20, 1945 in Clark County, Washington.

Doris Schultz, born Dec 24, 1926 in Wisconsin, was Jackson in 1951, Gibbons in 1956, dying Oct 16, 1998.

Millard 1888-1968 # 39294246 is buried in Norton County, Kansas, with Edith Dean (Hatcher) Jackson 1895-1980, # 39294261.

Corwin Lee Jackson 1914-1997 is buried in Yuma # 50842348.

"Harvey E. (Jack) Jackson, known to many as Jack, lived in Fort Morgan for many years. Jack passed away July 15, 2016 at McKee Medical Center in hospice after a short bout with acute leukemia. Jack was born Oct. 7, 1943 in Denver to Corwin L. and Imogene Simmering Jackson. He was five months old when his mother passed away suddenly. He then lived with his grandma and grandpa Simmering and their ten children and his brother and two sisters. Jack lived on a farm north of Yuma and attended a country school - Red Willow - until the family moved to Yuma. In 1955, Jack and his sister Donna were separated and sent to live with aunts. Jack went to Oregon. Shortly later, he returned to live with his sister Donna. In 1962 he enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served until 1968. He received many medals and two Purple Hearts. He served in Vietnam. After the service he worked and retired from Firestone Tire Company, UNC and Cargill. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and served as Commander of Chapter 41 and served on the legislature at state. Jack is survived by his wife Marilyn Klipfel; her two sons Jay (Charla) of Fort Morgan and Jim (Melissa) of Vernonia, Oregon; five granddaughters; son Charles (Chuck) and wife Mandi and their two daughters and son; son Jamie and stepson Tristan, all of California. Two sisters, Joyce Dilka of Akron and Donna Jarrett of Windsor. Also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Memorial services will be July 26, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Sanctuary, services will conclude at the church."

Corwin Jackson Jr. 1937-2000 is buried in Yuma # 50842349.
"Corwin Lee Jackson, Jr., 62, of Fort Morgan passed away on September 29, at a Fort Collins Hospital. He is survived by his wife Wanda, five daughters, three sons, five sisters and one brother.
Services were held Tuesday, October 3, 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Assembly of God Church in Brush. Interment at the Yuma Cemetery."

WARREN

Warren was born October 11, 1930, and died April 26, 2002 in York, Pennsylvania.

This MIGHT be Warren or Jerry. The photograph was given to the Yuma Museum by the Simmering family.






"Lorene E. (Gardner) Simmering, 88 of York, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, July 20 at Broadmore Senior Living. She was the wife of the late Warren E. Simmering who passed away in 2002. They had been married for 54 years.
Mrs. Simmering was born in Laramie, Wyoming on July 15, 1928 to the late Harold and Clara (Aagesen) Gardner.
Lorene was the 2nd oldest of 8 children. Her mother passed when she was 15 and she had to help raise her younger siblings on a farm in Arkansas.
She held several jobs during her life span, her favorite being a cake decorator for the Dairy Queen in Nixa, MO after her retirement. She loved showing the grandkids the cakes.
Lorene loved sewing and especially cross-stitch. The family all received fruits of her labor. She was a collector of Precious Moments which she loved. Lorene and Warren made several trips to the Chapel in Carthage, MO. They had lived in several states over the years which gave her family the enjoyment of visiting new places, some of the favorite being Branson, MO, St. Louis and the Rockies in Colorado.
Her most important passion was her family and grandchildren whom she loved. Even though their family was spread all over the country, they would make trips to see them all from one coast to the other.
She leaves her three children, Richard E. Simmering and his wife Gale of Dexter, MO, Bonnie J. Galloway and her husband Jeff of Manchester and Brian P. Simmering and his wife Nancy of York; eight grandchildren, Christopher Simmering and his wife Stacey of Hawaii, Jared Simmering of Tennessee, Douglas Galloway and his wife Katie of Mt. Wolf, Melissa Unger and her husband Todd of York, Wendy Landmesser and her husband Jared of New York, Jennifer Stough and her husband John of Red Lion, Stephanie Simmering of Dallastown and Amy St. Hart of Florida; ten great grandchildren, Devin, Macie, Jordyn, Zackary, Wyatt, Riley, Wesley, Ethan, Brayden, and Addison, and two more are expected this summer.
She is also survived by her siblings, Carrie Hirschfeld and her husband Albert of Sterling, CO, Jerald Gardner of California, MO, Ivan Gardner and Melvin and his wife Theresa of Sterling, CO.; sisters-in-law Darlene McCullough of Oregon, Delores Stephenson of CA and brother-in-law Jack Simmering and his wife Janet of Arizona; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her siblings, Alene Dowdy, Ralph Gardner and Robert Gardner.
A graveside service to celebrate Lorene’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 23 at Blymires Cemetery, Dallastown, with Pastor Mitchell Galloway officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00 – 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 23 at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc, 104 W. Main St. Dallastown prior to the graveside service. "


GERALD


Gerald Wayne Simmering - March 17, 1937- October 29, 2015.
"Born in Yuma, CO to Joseph Jacob and Mildred Alvira Matlan (Simmering).
Jerry attended Yuma High School and received honors in football.
After High school he married Danna Jarrett.
Due to his love of sports Jerry & family moved to California and he became a professional Boxer from 1960-1972 winning several fights.
He was third in line to fight Cassius Clay when he became ill and had to drop from the boxing line up. It took over 3 years for the before illness was better but never allowed Jerry to fight again. He moved to Colorado where he met Renee McCoy. Jerry won the biggest battle of all when he won the fight against alcoholism.
Jerry received an AA Degree from Otero Jr. College. In September he married Renee and Continued his education at UNC receiving a BA & MA in addiction Counseling and his CAC I,II,III at Island Grove.
Jerry worked for the Weld County Sheriffs office helping troubled men & women. He than worked for the Institute for Alcohol Awareness where he retired in 2013.
Jerry is survived by 3 Children & 2 Step Children. Andrew and Randy Simmering of CO, and Mildred Simmering of California. Step Children Catherine Flot (McCoy) and Steve McCoy of CO. 7 Grand Children and 18 Great Grand Children.
Jerry is Preceded in passing by his parents, a Brother & Sister. A Step Son Douglas McCoy & Step Grand Daughters Lynn Michelle Flot."


Reno, Nevada 1993 " Irene Josephine Simmering Handy, 70, died March 25, 1993, at Washoe Medical Center. A native of Logan, Colo., she was born Sept. 17, 1922, and had been a Reno resident for the past seven years, coming from Walnut, Calif. Mrs. Handy was a medical records clerk in California. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge, RSVP, Presbyterian Church, and was a Red Cross volunteer. Surviving are her mother, Mildred Simmering; brother, Jack Simmering, both of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughter, Carolyn M. Cox of Reno; sons, Edmund B. McNichols of La Habra, Calif., and Byron E. McNichols of Winnemucca; sisters, Delores Stephenson of Riverside, Calif., and Darlene McCullough of Salem, Ore.; brothers, Bob Simmering of Eugene, Ore., Don Simmering of Billings, Mont. , Gerald Simmering of Denver, and Warren Simmering of Missouri; six grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Cremation will be at Sierra Crematory, under the direction of Walton Funeral Home, Reno. A memorial is being established with Washoe Trauma Center.

DONALD

1950

Miami, Oklahoma 1955 "Mr. and Mrs. Donald Simmering, 10 D street southwest, and children, Danny, David and Sandra, vacationed recently in Loveland, Colo. While there, they visited Mrs. Simmering's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert McNichols, and Mr. Simmering's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Simmering, in Yuma."

"Donald Verl Simmering, 75, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings. He was born April 26, 1928, in Fleming, Colo., to Joe and Mildred Simmering. He was the sixth of 10 children. They moved to Yuma, Colo., where he attended school.
Don joined the Navy in 1945, when he was 17. He served on the USS Yuma. He was stationed in Japan, China, Alaska and Hawaii. After serving his four years in the Navy, he moved to Loveland, Colo., where he worked on the Big Thompson Canyon Tunnel with his three brothers. On July 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to Charlotte McNichols. Together, they had three children.
In 1953, he moved his family to Joplin, Mo., where he again joined his brothers in selling mining equipment. In 1959, the family made their home in Beaumont, Calif. While working for Cherry Valley Sheet Metal, Don built chicken houses in Townsend and Billings. After the children were grown, Charlotte started traveling with him to the out-of-state jobs. He worked in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Georgia, Oregon and Montana. In 1983, Don retired in Billings.
Don is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of 53 years; his son David, his daughter Sandra (Robert) Atkinson of Billings; grandchildren Téna Marie, and David Phillip, of California, Rob (Karissa) and Scott (Jennifer) Atkinson, of Washington. He is also survived by his brothers, Bob of Oregon, Jack of Arizona and Jerry of Colorado; his sisters Delores, of California and Darlene, of Washington.
Don is preceded in death by his parents; his son Danny; brothers, Stan and Warren; his sisters Flora; and twin sisters, Imogene and Irene.
Don loved to fish, hunt and play cards with his friends; and he and his wife spent quality time playing cribbage. He had a great sense of humor. This loving husband, father, grandfather and brother will be greatly missed.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 28, at the Dahl Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park."

ROBERT

Robert is buried in Willamette National 1924-2010 # 47493700.
" Robert was born in Fleming, Colo. e worked for 30 years for Atlas Copco and retired as regional manager in 1979. Prior to that time he worked in St. Louis, Mo., Atlanta, Ga., and Knoxville, Tenn., before moving to the Portland office. He retired in 1979.
In addition to his wife Gwen, whom he married in 1947, surviving are sons Larry Duddie, Ken Simmering, Bob Simmering, Jerry Simmering and Mike Simmering; brothers Jack and Gerald; sisters Deloras Stephenson and Darlene McCullough; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at noon Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, in Willamette National Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at 2 p.m. in McMenamins Grand Lodge, Forest Grove. Arrangements by Pegg, Paxson & Springer Funeral Chapel. "

DARLENE

In 1940 Yuma, Colorado, William Headley is a street maintainence worker, 46, born in Kansas, with Effie 42 in Nebraska. William 8, Ray L. 7, and Connie J. 5 were born in Kansas, Dwane 8 and Leola 3 in Colorado. Their daughter Lenora Hensell is 19, with daughter Patty A. 2, both born in Colorado.

William Headley, born Sept 27, 1893, died February 1968, last residence Denver.
Effie L. Headley, born Oct 11, 1897, died June 3, 1988, last residence Aurora, Colorado.

Lenora A. Reynolds 1921-1947 is buried in Yuma # 59792086, with Vernie W. 1915-1988 # 59792093.


Dwane Headley 1931-2012 is buried in Longview, Washington # 91020418.
" Dwane D. Headley, 80, a longtime resident of Longview, passed away May 21, 2012, at the Hospice Care Center.
He was born Dec. 28, 1931, in Yuma, Colo., to Effie and William Headley.
Dwane served in the Army during the Korean War. In 1967, he moved to the Northwest where he worked for Weyerhaeuser as a field welder. He retired in 1994.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Darlene McCullough, whom he met during his school years and reunited with in 2004. Also surviving are two children, Sheila Peters of Kelso and Kenneth Headley of Longview; a stepdaughter, Jeanne Riley of Castle Rock; a stepson, Bryce Sandford; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Connie Deille of Sacramento, Calif., and Leola Ward of Denver.
Dwane was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Headley; his second wife, Edna Headley; his eldest son, Terry Headley; a sister; and three brothers.


He loved volunteering, traveling, fishing, clam digging, horseback riding, dancing and gardening at his home on Pleasant Hill in Kelso.
He was a longtime member of American Legion Post 155 and the 40 et 8 Club where he volunteered for the veteran’s poppy sales and flag displays, and participated in parades. Dwane managed the Nursing Scholarship Program at Lower Columbia College and was a member of the Elks and Moose clubs.
A service is planned for 10 a.m. Sunday at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park & Crematory. " "

DELORES

Delores I. Simmering 19, married Arthur H. Stephenson, 23 on January 31, 1959 in Los Angeles.
