   Duncan McCall was born in New York in 1834, the son of Scottish immigrants. He served three years with Company B, 11th Regiment, Missouri Volunteers before he was discharged in August 1864. He wrote a book about his Civil War experiences. Lydia Maria Sawdy was born in 1847 in Ontario, Canada.

   In December of 1872 Duncan and Lydia were united in marriage in New York. They homesteaded in Harlan County, Nebraska as newlyweds and then moved to Yuma County in 1894 taking up a homestead three miles northeast of Yuma.

   Lydia was a midwife who delivered many babies and assisted with surgery, sometimes on the kitchen table. Duncan passed away in 1904 after he was thrown from his horse and Lydia passed away in 1917. Both are buried in the Yuma Cemetery.

   Duncan and Lydia had seven children: Cora (Mrs. Frank Jennings) 1873-1895, Mary (Mrs. Edwin Cook) 1875-1948, John 1878-1882, Duncan (married Pauline Blach) 1880-1951, Florence (Mrs.Claude Tribbett) 1883-1960, James (married Ethel Lindgren) 1885-1969, and Jessie (married Ora Smith) 1888-1958.

   Mary, Duncan, Florence and Jessie are also buried in the Yuma Cemetery.
