Thomas is buried in Scandia 1845-1929, # 135382675, with Sarah Catharine (Brown) Downing 1850-1909, # 137164025.

J.A.'S FAMILY

1917 Mrs. M. Weislogel died at her home in Scandia last Friday, June 1, at 10 o'clock p. m., after a t severe Illness of eight weeks. About three weeks prior to her death she was taken to Waconda Springs but no relief was found there. The entire family was at her bedside when the hour of death came. . Anna Stuchen was born Nov. 18, 1850, in Gerlefingen, Berne county, Switzerland. She came to America with her parents in 1854 and settled in Erie -county, Penn. SheVwas united in marriage to M. Weislogel Oct. 5, 1867. In 1868 Mr. and Mrs. Weislogel moved to Iowa where they resided for ten years. In 1878 they came to Kansas. They lived on their farm west of the river until a few years ago when they moved into their beautiful residence which they built in Scandia. To Mr. and Mrs. Weislogel were born thirteen children, seven of whom have passed away prior to their mother's death. Six are still living, four boys and two girls; J. M. Weislogel, Minnie Nystrom, J. W. Weislogel, J. A. Weislogel, Mrs. Jessie Ward and Carl B. Weislogel. Mrs. Weislogel leaves besides her husband and children, three sisters and three brothers ; John Stuchen of Long Beach, Calif. ; Christ Stuch-on, Nora Springs, Iowa ; Pete Stuchen, Alburnette, Iowa ; Mrs. Kate Nothbrom, Lafeyelle, Iowa ; Mrs. Mary Dieter, Waubeke, Iowa Mrs. Lizzie Hense, Alburhette, Iowa. Also seven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends mourn her departure. Mrs. Weislogel was an active member of the Rebekah lodge where 6he was always ready to help do her part to make life happy for others. She was a member in good; standing, of the United Brethern church at the time of her death. She lived a quiet, consistent Christian life and was ever faithful to any task she put her hand to do. In the death of Mrs. Weislogel the immediate family have not only lost a wife and mother, but this community has lost a friend in every time of need. A character that taught patience wherever she went and lived out the will of the Master in her everyday life. God bless her memory, that we may think of the many good deeds, ht her life and thus be enriched In character and life, for time and , eternity

"The death at Scandia on Sunday, Nov. 12, 1922, of Mr. Michael Weislogel, wealthy pioneer and retired farmer, removed one of Scnadia and Republic county's best known citizens. Mr. Weislogel passed away after eight weeks severe illness. Born Dec. 14, 1843, a native of Baden, Germany, he came to America with his parents in 1854. and settled in Erie County, Pa., later moving to Iowa where he lived for 10 years, and in 1878 came to Kansas, locating at Scandia where he resided for many years on a farm just west of the Republican river bridge. His marriage to Miss Anna Struchen, took place in Pennsylvania and the year following she came to Iowa with him and later to Kans. Following their many years of farm life they moved to their present home in Scandia in 1906, and Jun 1st, 1917, Mrs. Weislogel passed away. The deceased at the time of death owned quite a tract of land, including the old home and several large business buildings aside from the home in Scandia. He was on of the charter members of the Scandia I.O.O.F. Lodge and was active in having the lodge instututed in the twon. Mr. Weislogel was a jolly good natured fellow and during his active years was a hard worker. In his death the family and community have suffered a distinct loss. The survivng relatives are: Mrs. Frank Ward; J. M. Weislogel of Scandia; J. A. Weislogel of Vernon, Colo.; and C. B. Weislogel of Iowa, and a brother and sister. The funeral was from the City Hall, on Tuesday, November 14, Pastor Carpenter of the Scandia M. E. church preaching the sermon and the Odd Fellows conducting the ritual services at the hall and grave.

February 1913 "Mrs. Lou Weslough is visiting her brothers, Ed, Charles, and Art Downing for two weeks."

In 1915 Republic County, Kansas, J. A. Weislogel is 32, Lula Weislogel 32, Ruth Gatchel 11, Earnest Gatchel 10, and Lloyd Downing 23.

In 1918 Yuma County school district #58, E.H. Kimber is president, E.M. Cook of Wray and J.A. Weislogel are secretary and treasurer.

July 1929 "Mrs. Earnest Gatchell arrived Thursday for a visit at the Weislogel home until Sunday. Mrs. Gatchell is a daughter-in-law of Mrs. Weislogel.

July 1933 "A heavy wind is reported to have damaged small buildings in the neghborhood of the John Weislogel and C. M. Sweazy places south of Vernon last Monday evening. It is reported that some poultry was killed when the chicken houses were damaged by the wind. "

August 1934 " Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Weislogel from south of Vernon were in Wray Monday and while here Mrs. Weislogel called at The Rattler office to order The Rattler sent to her son. E. M. Gatchel, at Fort Barrancas, Fla., another year. "
" E. M. Gatchel, son of Mrs. J. A. Weislogel of south of Vernon, is at Fort Barrancas, Fla., where he is employed in the pharmacy department of the Fort. He has been at this Fort for four years and likes his work very much. "

1934 "Mr. J. A. Weislogel, who resides four miles south of Vernon on highway No. 51, will hold a public sale at his farm on Wednesday, November 28. Mr. Weislogel has a fine offering of livestock and farm equipment. The sale will start at 10 o'clock in the morning. The Vernon Ladies Aid will serve lunch at noon. Phil Price will be the auctioneer and Roy Thompson will clerk the sale. At this writing Mr. Weislogel does not have his future plans definitely completed, but he is considering the idea of leaving Yuma county. Sale bills were printed and circulated the first of the week. Read the big sale ad printed elsewhere in The Rattler this week."
January 1938 "Miss Ruth Getchel died Monday, Jan. 17 at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Weislogel at Loveland and Uie funeral service was held yesterday. Miss Getchel was some thirty years old and she had been an invalid all her life. The family formerly resided in the Vernon neighborhood."
June 9, 1938 "Mrs. J. A. Weislogel, former Yuma county lady who had been making her home at Loveland the past three years, died Sunday at the age of about 50 years. Funeral services were held at Loveland Tuesday. Messrs, and Mesdames W arren Downing, Darrell Downing, Fred Thomas, and B. H. Yount motored to Loveland to attend the funeral. Mrs. Weislogel was un aunt of Downing brothers.

December 1940 " Mr. James Weislogel and Kelsey Hardwick drove down from Loveland last Friday afternoon. Mr. Weislogel will spend the holidays at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Downing. Mr. Hardwick returned home after spending several months working in the sugar factory at Loveland
January 1947 "Mr. and Mrs Virgil Yount and Louise entertained at dinner Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. Bell Yount, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Yount and family of Fleming, and Beverly Downing. Mr. and Mrs Ted Yount and family arrived at the Ed Downing home Saturday evening and spent the night. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wetherington entertained at * card party Saturday night. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Warren Downing and Beverly, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Yount and family, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Yount and Louise, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Critchfield and Karl, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Harris amt daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Kelsey Hardwick and children, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Akey and family, and Jim Weislogel
January 1952 "J. A. Weislogel of Loveland returned home Sunday morning after a visit with the Downing families at Vernon.

J.A. Weislogel's estate was in probate court in Larimer County in 1967.

FRANK

Funeral services for Frank W. Gatchel, 76, of 3144 Lakeshore Dr., a retired Arkansas Fuel Oil Corp employe, will be held at 2 p.m today at the Wellman Funeral Home chapel. Officiating at the rites will be the Rev. Roy Mouser, pastor of the Cedar Grove Methodist Church. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
Mr. Gatchel, a resident here for many years, died at 1 a.m. yesterday, December 21, 1957 in a local hospital following a heart attack suffered at his home, He had been in failing health for some time. He had served with Arkansas Fuel Oil Corp. for 23 years and was a member of the Doherty Fraternity in that firm. A native of Scandia, Kan., Mr. Gatchel was also a member of the Cedar Grove Methodist Church and the Cedar Grove Odd Fellows Lodge No. 172.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mae Gatchel; a sister, Mrs. Kate Vinson and a brother, Will Gatchel, both of Hood River, Ore.
Pallbearers will be D. S. Griffith, Paul J. Cox, G. R. Skidmore, A H. Peterson, E. D. Baker and J. E Whitney. Employes of the Arkansas Fuel Oil Corp. and members of the Do herty Fraternity and the Men' Sunday School Class of the Cedar Grove Methodist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. "

Graveside service for Ida May Gatchel, 93, of Shreveport will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 1988 at Forest Park. Officiating will be Rev. Roy Mouser, retired pastor of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. Vistation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednedav until service time Thursday, at Wellman's Funeral Home. Mrs. Gatchel died AAnnrlnv. Inlv 11, 1988 at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was a native of Huttig, Ark., and a resident of Shreveport for 75 years, a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and member of the Rebecca Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Gatchel, two brothers, H. S. Mills and Edward A. Mills and one sister, Louise Warren. Survived by a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be nephews and close friends."
