Leonard and Julia (Redfield) Parsons , Wray


In 1900 Dundy County, Nebraska, Leonard Parsons is farming, born Aug 1850 in Illinois, married 48 years to Jennie P. August 1851 Connectiut. Cora E. April 1873, Arthur S. Dec 1876, Joseph April 1879, and William H. May 1881 were born in Illinois. Emma M. Aug 1886, Grace P. Nov 1888, and Ella B. June 1892 were born in Nebraska.

Jennie Parsons is in Wray in 1910, widowed, 58, born in Connecticut. She's had nine kids, seven living. Ella is 17, born in Nebraska.

December 1911 "Mrs. J. A. Parsons left Monday for Parks, Nebraska, where she will visit her daughter, Mrs. Frank Burkett. From there she will go to Max, Nebraska, to visit another daughter, Mrs. Ed Foster. She expects to be gone about a month."

June 1910 "Miss Nellie Foster, of Max, Nebraska is visiting her sister, Mrs. A. L. Parsons."

Jennie Adeline (Redfield) Parsons 1851-1916 is buried in Benkelman, Nebraska # 18914220, with Leonard U. Parsons 1850-1901.

January 13, 1916 "At 3:00 Tuesday morning occurred the death of Mrs. Jennie A. Parsons. Mrs. Parsons was residing at the home of her son, Arthur, and family, two miles south of Wray, since her return to this place early ths fall. She had been ill for several weeks, but her illness was not alarming until recently, when heart trouble was aggravated by other complications. Mrs. Parsons was born under the name of Jennie Redfield, Aug. 6, 1857, at Killingsworth, Conn., and in November 1871, was married to Leonard U. Parsons, to which union were born nine children, two of whom passed away in infancy, Those surviving the mother are: Mrs. Cora Foster and Mrs, Grace Burchert, of Max, Neb., Mrs. Ella Carlyle of Bethany, Illinois; Mrs. Emma Merrill, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; William H., of Spokane, Wash.; Joseph, of Wauneta, Neb.; and Arthur, of Wray, Colo. Mrs. Parson also leaves twenty-four grand-children, a sister, Mrs. Sarah Swim, of Red Oak, Iowa, and two brothers, C. E. Redfield, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Abram Redfield, of Oregon. Mrs. Parsons was 64 years, 5 months and 6 days of age at the time of her death.
In November, 1878, Mrs. Parsons became a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and remained a faithful member of that church until her death. Mrs. Parsons had been a widow since August 16, 1901, at which time her husband passed away at their home near Max, Nebraska, and since that time, she has resided several years at her home in East Wray.
The funeral services will be held at her church home tomorrow (Friday) afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock by Elder Sutton of Limon, Colorado, and the body will be taken to Benkleman, Nebraska, on the evening train for burial in the family cemetery at that place."

JOSEPH

In 1910 Yuma County, Laird precinct "area over river" probably meaning on the north side of the Republican River, Joseph W. Parsons is a tenant farmer, 31, born in Illinois, married eight years to Josie 26 born in Nebraska. Mable 6, Helen 3 were born in Nebraska, Jennie 2 in Colorado.

Joseph Upham Parsons registered for WWI in Dundy County, Nebraska, born April 10, 1879, with wife Josie Belle Parsons.

In 1920 Dundy County, Joseph is farming 40, with Josie B. 36, Mabel A. 16 and Helen M. 12 born in Nebraska, and Jennie C. 11 born in Colorado.

Joseph and Josie are alone, farming in Hitchcock County, Nebraska in 1930 and 1940.

One tree said Josie died March 14, 1956 in North Platte, Nebraska, daughter of John Walter Kimsey 1858-1936 and Catherine B. Stroup 1865-1929.

Joseph died in January 1969.

In 1930 Hitchcock County, Nebraska, Fred W. Petsch is 34, born in Illinois, with Mable 26, Lyle J. 7 and Leland V. 2, all three born in Nebraska.

Leland's obituary said that his mother was Mable Adeline Parsons, and that Lyle and wife Virginia lived in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Fredrick William Petsch is divorced in 1940 Hitchcock County, with Lyle T. 17 and Leland V. 12.


Mabel Lancaster 1903-1984 is buried in Wauneta # 64000659.

Helen Mae (Parson) Boyce 1907-1983 is buried in Wauneta, Nebraska # 36749147, with Marion Boyce 1904-1987.

Helen Maud Boyce died April 6, 1983, at the age of 76 years at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Littleton, Colorado.

Helen was born February 15, 1907, in Max, the daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Kimsey) Parsons. She was united in marriage to Marion A. Boyce July 24, 1922, in Benkelman, Nebraska. To this union was born one daughter, Lela.

Marion and Helen were farmers in Dundy County from 1922 until 1968, and at that time retired and moved to Wauneta,

Marion died in March of 1978. Helen moved to Littleton, Colorado, in August of 1979 to make her home with her daughter, Lela, and son-in-law, Lyle Francis.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Josie Parsons and her husband, Marion. She is survived by her daughter, Lela Francis and son-in-law, Lyle Francis; her granddaughter, Connie Warner, and husband, Paul, her great-granddaughter, Melissa, all of Colorado; two sisters, Mable Lancaster of Wauneta, and Jeannie Hall of North Platte.

To review her life by saying she was simply a good farm wife, mother and grandmother is a gross understatement. She was a generous, loving mother to her daughter. Her granddaughter, Connie, was the sunshine of her life and this love and joy was reciprocated.

She suffered from Parkinson's Disease the last three and one-half years of her life. The last three months she was totally immobile, only able to move her eyes and experienced a great deal of pain and discomfort during this time,

The greatest source of joy in her life was her great-granddaughter, Melissa. Her son-in-law, Lyle, helped care for her the last years of her life.

She was an active member of Eden Missionary Church for many years. Helen enjoyed playing the piano and singing the songs she loved. Her devotion to her belief in Christ was unwavering.

Funeral services were held April 9 at Eden Missionary Church in Wauneta, Nebraska, with Pastor Steve Werdal officiating. Orpha Maris accompanied Elaine Bley and Mary Emma Maris as they sang "Beyond the Sunset," "Whispering Hope" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee."

Escorts were Ed Nichols, Terry Nichols, Kelly Nichols, Michael Nichols, Leland Petsch and Paul Warner. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta. Creveling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jennie might be the one, age 22, who married V.W. Miles, 24, on April 10, 1929 in Phillips County, Colorado.

One tree said Jennie died December 24, 1993.

August 14, 1913 "Mrs. Ed Foster and three children returned to their home near Max, Nebraska, Monday evening after spending a week with her mother, Mrs. Jennie Parsons in East Wray."

Mrs. Edwin S. Foster passed away on February 22nd, 1940, after a prolonged illness. Funeral services were held at: the United Presbyterian church in Benkelman at 2 o'clock p. m., being conducted by Rev. J. C. Foster, assisted by Rev. Keil, pastor of the Max M. E. church. Singers were John Baer, Robert.Passmore, Irene Passmore and Beth Rickard, with Anne Gorthy at the piano. Interment was in the Benkelman cemetery. Mrs. Foster, who was well and popularly known in Benkelman during her school days as Cora Parsons. was a splendid woman and during her long residence in Dundy county—it covered most of her lifetime—won and held the admiration of everyone with whom she came in contact for her splendid character and womanly qualities which endeared her to everyone. She was tolerant, kind and devoted to her family and loved ones and to her neighbors and friends who sorrow now with loved ones in her departure from this earthly sphere. Cora Elnora Parsons was born in Hancock county, Illinois. on April 22, 1873, and departed this life on February 22, 1940, at the age of 66 years and 10 months. She had been in failing. health for a year and at last suffered a stroke of paralysis which was in fact the cause of her passing. She came to Dundy county with her parents from Missouri in 1884, and settled on a farm three miles east of Max. She attended the first public school taught in District No. 1. In 1892 she moved to Benkelman with her family where she attended the Benkelman schools and united with the Presbyterian church. She had lived in Dundy county continuously for over 55 years except for eight months, during which time her family lived in Denver. On November 20, 1901, she was united in marriage to Edwin S. Foster of Max. Some time after her marriage she and her husband united with the Methodist church at Max. Her parents and three brothers preceded her in death. Those remaining to mourn her loss are her husband, Edwin Foster of Max; Ethyl McDermott of Roberts, Idaho; Clarence Foster of Haigler, Nebraska: Clyde Foster of Phoenix, Arizona: Ella Bumfalk of Stratton and Ralph Foster of Max. children; and three sisters, Emma Merril, Grace Borchert and Ella Dame, all of Stratton; two brothers, Arthur L. Parsons of Max and J. U. Parsons of Stratton. She also leaves nine grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends.

ARTHUR

January 17, 1908 "Joe Parsons of near Benkelman, drove up to Wray last Friday and Saturday with loaded wagons of goods which he has taken out to the farm southeast of town that himself and brother, Arthur, will occupy. Arthur Parsons and family are expected within a few days. Joe was accompanied on the trip by John Kimsey, one of the pioneers of Dundy county, and an old acquaintance of the editor."

February 4, 1910 "Arthur Parsons last week sold a half section of land he owned down near Max, and returned tho first of the week from that place where he had been closing up the deal."

In 1910 Yuma County, Arthur L. Parsons is farming, 33, born in Illinois, married eight years to Mary E. 27 born in IOa. Charles A. is 7, Franklin L. 5, Alice M. 3, anll born in Nebraska, and Jennette two months born in Colorado.

December 1911 "Arthur Parsons, who went out to Big Horn Basin a couple of weeka ago, returned home Sunday and says he is very much pleased with the country."

June 1913 "Mrs. Charles Foster came up from Max, Nebraska, Thursday to visit a days with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Parsons, and family. She was joined here by her husband Sunday and they both returned to their home Tuesdsy evening."

December 1913 "Ray Ham and wife came up from their home in Benkelrnan, Nebraska, yesterday, the former returning that evening to Benkelman. Mrs. Ham remained over and is visiting her sister, Mrs. Arthur Parsons and family, south of town."

April 22, 1915 "Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Parsons are rejoicing over the arrival of a fine boy at their home, yesterday morning."

October 1916 "A. L. Parsons and wife, southeast of town, had for guests over Monday Stephen Foster and wife of Rude, Illinois, Mrs. Chas. Foster and son Ben, of Max, Nebraska. The party left Tuesday for Colorado Springs."

November 1918 "Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Foster and family, of Max, Nebraska, were visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. Parsons and family Wednesday. Mr. Foster is a brother of Mrs. Parsons, and Mrs. Foster is a sister of Mr. Parsons. The two couples were married the same day. Art says it was no robbery, just a plain case of swapping sisters."

1919 Wray "Mrs. Ella Carlyle and two children visited her brother Arthur Parson last week. Mrs. Carlyle is from Fulton, Missouri."

In 1920 Yuma County, Arhtur and Mary are farming, with Charles 17, Frank 15, Alice 13, Jeannette 10, Earl 7, Lyman 5, and Elsie 2.

In 1925 they're in Sherman County, Kansas, Arthur 48, Mary E. 43, Charles A. 22, Frank L. 20, Alice M. 18, Jeannette P. 16, Earl F. 14, Lyman 12, and Elsie L. 7.

In 1930 Dundy County, Nebraska, Arthur is farming, 53, wtih Mary E. 49, Frank 24, Alice 22, Jennet 20, Earl 16, Lyman 14, and Elsie 12, the last four born in Colorado.

Arthur and Mary are farming alone in 1940 Dundy County.


Arthur Leonard Parsons, 1876-1963 is buried in Larned, Kansas # 89467342, with Mary Eunice (Foster) Parsons 1880-1971.

Charles A. Parsons 1903-1987 is buried in Minden, Nebraska, with Clara D. (Ihrig) Parsons 1905-2002 # 49613797.
"Clara D. (Ihrig) Parsons, 97, of Holdrege died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Holdrege Memorial Home in Holdrege. Services were held Saturday at First Christian Church in Minden with the Rev. Kathy Bryant officiating.
Mrs. Parsons was born Feb. 24, 1905, to Charles Frederick and Rose Elizabeth (Perrenoud) Ihrig in Johnson. She graduated from Johnson High School. She moved to Goodland, Kan., then to Dayton, Ohio. On Feb. 4, 1928, she married Charles Parsons in Dayton. They moved to Max. In 1939, they moved to Minden. Her husband died in 1987. She was a member of First Christian Church in Minden.
Survivors are one son, Don of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Bettie Godfrey of Kearney and Jane Meester of Holdrege; one brother, Oscar of Goodland; and three grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers. "

Franklin Leonard Parsons, 27, of Manhattan, Kansas and Fern Marie Roberson, 24, of Franklin County, Illinois, married in Independence, Missouri June 17, 1933.

Alice May (Parsons) Ingram 1907-2009 is buried in Larned, Kansas # 36941707, with Kenneth Paul Ingram 1908-1999.
"Pawnee Rock, Kansas — Alice May Ingram, 101, died April 24 at her daughter's home in Independence, Mo. Born December 7, 1907 at Max, Neb., she was the daughter of Arthur L. and Mary E. Foster Parsons. She married Kenneth Paul Ingram on May 28, 1933 Max, Neb. He died July 22, 1999. A longtime resident of Pawnee Rock, she moved to Independence to be near family. She was a retired school teacher and homemaker, Pawnee Rock librarian for over 20 years and a certified Braille transcriber.
Mrs. Ingram was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Great Bend.
Survivors include two sons; Jared, Sun City, Ariz. and J.D., Independence, Mo.; a daughter, Jewell Bowman-Fortman, Independence, Mo; one sister Elsie Buster, Larned; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl Parsons and Lyman Parsons; and sister Jeannette Weldon.
A celebration of Life Service took place in Independence. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery at a later date. "

Jeannette E. Parsons and Walter Garton Weldon married in Alameda County, California on June 12, 1932.

In 1940 Monona County, Iowa, Walter Weldon, 33, born in California, is a bee keeper, with Jearnette 30, Marjorie 5 and Lloyd 2 both born in California.

Jeannette E. (Parsons) Weldon is buried in Independence, Missouri # 14315515, with Walter G. Weldosn 1907-1997.
"Jeannette E. (Parsons) Weldon, 96, Independence, Mo., passed away Monday, May 15, 2006, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Jeannette was born Feb. 22, 1910, in Wray, Colo., to Arthur and Mary (Foster) Parsons, the middle of seven children. After graduating from high school in Goodland, Kan., she taught in a country school there for one year before attending Graceland College with her older sister, Alice. While there, she met and later married Walter Weldon in 1932. He preceded her in death in 1997, after which she moved to White Oak Living Center of The Groves. During their 65 years together, they owned and operated a bee business in Moorhead, Iowa, and Winner, S.D., before retiring to Independence in 1976. Jeannette was a member of The Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by her children, Marjorie Hahn and son-in-law, Dr. Fred Hahn, of Kansas City, Mo., and Lloyd A. Weldon of Eudora, Kan.; five grandchildren, Debra Hahn White and spouse, Gary, Kathryn Hahn, Kevin Weldon and spouse, Brenda, Kimberly Weldon and Randy Weldon; 10 great-grandchildren, Jennifer Rinas, Katie Rinas, Laura Rinas, Amy White Klepac, Stephen Shivers, April Besser, Christopher Weldon, Caitlin Mitton, Aden Weldon and Seth Weldon; sisters Alice Ingram of Independence, Elsie Buster-Fox of Larned, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lyman E. Parsons 1915-2003 is buried in Phoenix National # 36508122, with Irene 1923-2009. Irene's first husband Andrew Crammer 1912-1945 died in military accident one day aftere WWII ended.

Elsie Lorena (Parsons) Buster 1917-2016 is buried in Larned, Kansas # 165314731, , with James Clayton Buster 1914-1995.
"Elsie Lorena (Parsons) Buster, 98, the daughter of Mary Eunice (Foster) and Arthur Leonard Parsons, was born in Wray, Colorado, September 27, 1917, and died on June 10, 2016. She graduated from Max, Nebraska High School and attended Kansas State College from 1935-1937 majoring in Home Economics. She was a member of the Clovia Sorority at Kansas State. After moving to Kearney, Nebraska, where she lived with her brother and his family, Elsie attended Kearney State Teachers College where she obtained a teaching certificate after which she taught school near her home in Max. She met James Clayton Buster while at Kansas State. They were married in her parents' home on November 13, 1938 and moved to a farm east of Larned, Kansas, where Clayton farmed with his father. Elsie raised turkeys, chickens, goats and cooked for harvest crews. The couple had five children. She worked in the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Office in Larned. She later assumed the position of Director of Volunteer Services at Larned State Hospital. She taught herself shorthand and worked as a legal secretary for several years. When Clayton died on May 16, 1995, she moved from the farm to a new home in Larned in 1995, thent o Cedar Lake Village Retirement Center in Olathe, Kansas, in September 2011, and to the Good Samaritan Society in April 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers: Charles Parsons, Frank Parsons, Earl Parsons, and Lyman Parsons; two sisters: Alice Ingram and Jeannette Weldon; sister-in-law, Sarah Jane Votaw; brother-in-law, Charles Buster; infant grandson, Kevin Buster; daughter-in-law, Martha Buster; and nieces: Bettie Parsons, Joanne Heegard and Jewell Ingram Bowman Fortman. She is survived by five children, fifteen granchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews."

In 1940 Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Earl Foster Parsons is an assistant in an insurance office, 27, born in Colorado, living in Manhattan Kansas in 1935. He's living next to the Nancy and Inez Borland sisters, who also work in an insurance office.

November 9, 1942 Oelwein, Iowa "Mr. and Mrs. Earl Parsons of Oelwein, are the parents of a son, born at Mercy hospital here. Mrs. Parsons was formerly Inez Borland. "

August 13, 1946 Oelwein "Twenty relatives and friends gathered at the Harry Borland home at 218 3d Ave. S. E., Sunday evening, for a buffet dinner in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Parsons and son, Steve, who are moving to Oskaloosa to live. The evening was spent socially and playing cards, after which Mr. and Mrs. Parsons were pleasantly surprised with a number of appropriate gifts for their new home. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. John Borland and family of Oelwein, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Borland and family of Independence. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson and Betty of Arlington, Charles A· G l c i m of Arlington, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Borland. John Zinzcr, Mabel and Nancy Borland, all of Oelwein. During the past five years. Mr. Parsons has served as an officer in the Army with one and one-half years service overseas. He is now Loan Representative with the Equitable Life Insurance Society of Nev York. Mrs. Parsons, the former Inez Borland, and Steve have been making their home in the city with Nancy, Harry and Mabel Borland."

February 21, 1948 Oelwein "Mr. and Mrs. Earl Parsons of Oskaloosa are the parents of an eight pound, 4 ounce son, Jeffrey Lee, born Feb. 13. Mrs. Parsons is the former Inez Borland.

1948 the Kansas State University alumni noted "Earl Foster Parsons, Ag '38, is farm loan representative for the Equitable Life Assurance Society, Oskaloosa, Iowa. The Parsons' have two sons. Jeffrey is 8 months and Steven is 5 years. "

In 1958 Earl F. Parsons is a land appraiser in Galesburg, Illinois, with Inez B. Parsons at 771 Warren.

Earl, born June 30, 1913, serving in the army 1941-1946, died April 8, 1994.

1965 Galesburg, Illinois "2nd Battalion, Infantry Regiment, a basic combat training element of the 85th Army Reserve Division, returned to Galesburg Saturday night after concluding the training span at the Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri facility. Lt. Col. Earl F. Parsons, battalion commander, appraised the field program as tops in the unit's history. The battalion fielded 121 enlisted men and 13 officers in roles as instructors for regular Army men currently in eight weeks of basic training at the fort."

1975 Galesburg "Edmund L. Roberts of Morton has been appointed area loan manager for The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States. He is replacing Earl F. Parsons of Galesburg, who is retiring after 37 years as area loan manager. "
