John Francis McEvoy, son of John and Ann McEvoy, was born at Keysville, New York, January 14, 1871 and died May 1, 1941. As an infant he moved with his parents to Ogdensburg, New York, where he grew up and attended school. Then in late fall of 1885, he with his mother and sister, joined his father in Benkelman. His father had taken up land and a tree claim. The family lived there for several years. Then in 1893 John F. McEvoy married Emmeline Sherbert, who died in 1913. To this union seven children were born, Edna, who died in 1920, Erma Stamm, John M. and Leo McEvoy of Benkelman, Ann Jokerst of Norton, Kansas; Emmeline Pitner of Stratton, Nebraska and Willie, who died at the age of three years. He has lilved on the farm three and a half miles southwest of Benkelman all these years. In 1930 he married Gertrude VanBuskirk, who cared for him in his last illness. He had been in poor health for almost three years. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Gertrude; two sons, John and Leo; three daughters, Erma, Ann and Emmeline and one sister, Lizzie McEvoy. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, May 3, at St. Joseph's Catholic church, by Rev. Father Kolar. The pall bearers were P. E. O'Brien, J. Reining, P. R. Wakefield, J. A. McDonald, T. J.
