Nancy (Breeden) Butcher, son George and Laura (Willcox) Butcher, daughter Alcie (Butcher) Willcox, son Ora and Clara (Riley) Butcher, daughter Bertha (Butcher) Williams







Tell Wilcox, son of Coble Wilcox and Mahala, married Alcie Butcher March 13, 1898 in Lovilia County, Iowa.


In 1900 Monroe County, Iowa, Levi Butcher born February 1860, married 18 years to Nancy February 1860, have Bertha I. January 1890, Roy S. August 1892, Leo August 1895, and Zina October 1897.
Nancy has had eight children, four living.

Levi died October 19, 1907, and is buried in Monroe County # 62738771, with Cordelia 1851-1881 and Nancy E. Butcher 1860-1941.

Levi Butcher was born in Monroe County, Iowa, Feb 17, 1851. Died in Monroe county Iowa, Oct 19, 1907; age 56 years, 7 months and 21 days. He was married to Cordilia Plummer April 14, 1872 who died Oct 8, 1881.
To this union were born 5 children; two boys and three girls, Delmer Butcher, of Melrose, Iowa, George Butcher of Yuma Colorado, Mrs. Dora Flora and Mrs. Nora Harter of Hebon Nebraska, and Mrs. Jennie Barnes of Melrose, Iowa. He was again married to Nancy E. Bredwell April 16, 1882.
To this union were born ten children five boys and five girls; five of these having died in infancy, three girls and two boys. The remaining five, Bertha, Leroy, Leo, Ina and Ora who with their mother and three sisters are left to mourn their loss.

One of the five dying in infancy would be "Butcher Bessie M Mar 25 1896 3y 11m 12d Dau Of L & N E." buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.

When Zeina Dell (Butcher) Palmer died in 1945 in Marion County, Iowa, her survivors were Leroy Butcher of Lovilia, Leo of South Gate, California, Ora of Otis Colorado, Mrs. John Flora of Algona Iowa, and Mrs. Alva Barnes of Des Moines.

1940 Algona Iowa "Mrs. Jennie Barnes, Des Moines, arrived Saturday for ten days at her sister Mrs. John Flora's."

John Flora moved to Lovilia, IA to find work. He met and married Dora Butcher in 1895. They had 3 children Mina, Nola, and Orval.
1937 "The Orville Flora family who lived on the Frank Derner farm, moved his stock and household goods to five miles southwest of Laurens, Saturday."

May 24, 1949 "Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sweeden, Foreston, Minnesota, formerly St. Benedict, visited the Jack Kutch-aras Monday night last week. They came down to attend the funeral of Mrs. Sweedon's brother Orville Flora 50, who died suddenly of a heart attack at his r\ m t ^c Laurens with burial at Clark, S. D. The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Flora."
Orville is buried in Clark County # 133772325. "John and Dora Flora's only son, Orval, married Berenice Johnson on Dec. 29, 1925. The hot winds and grasshoppers came, there was no rain, and the soil started to blow. Crops were not raised, so the Flora families, John and Orval, decided to make a move in the spring of 1931. They settled in Bancroft, Iowa in Kossuth County. In the spring of 1935 Orval and family left the partnership and moved to Whittimore, Iowa. Orval and family moved to a farm in Palo Alto County at Laurens, Iowa, in the spring of 1939. A few years later they moved to Marshall County also near Laurens, Iowa. Crops were good, Orval raised Hereford cattle and many hogs. "
John 1872-1954 and Dora 1876-1951 are both buried in Clark # 137892803.



One post said that Mary Butcher married August Nedderman. This would be a niece of Levi. Mrs. Mary Nederman, Mrs. Jan Edwards, and Mrs. Catherine Streiff were sisters.

Samantha Jane Butcher Edwards was born in Monroe county Nov. 26, 1857 and died at the home of her sister Mrs. Catherine Streiff on Monday the 24th day of March, 1930 at 8:45 p.m., at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 28 days, following an illness of over a year, but had been bedfast for a week. The members of her family were present when the end came.

She was united in marriage with George I. Edwards on the 24th day of December 1874 and made their home in Lovilia and vicinity, he having preceded her in death on August 7, 1923. To this union were born 13 children, 5 girls and 8 boys, of which 2 girls and 6 boys preceded them in death. The remaining are: Mrs. Tracy A. Barnes, Lovilia; Mrs. Maggie K. Roberts, Knoxville; Mrs. Dora E. Schmitz, Peoria, Ill.; Andrew E. Edwards, Kellogg; Clarence F. Edwards, Peoria, Ill.; and two sisters, Mrs. Catherine M. Streiff and Mrs. Mary Nedderman, both of Lovilia, Iowa.

There are 5 children, 25 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren all living.

She was converted and joined the United Brethren church in early girlhood days and has lived a faithful and devoted life, both to God and her children until the Death Angel bore her to God.

Funeral services were held at the Lovilia Methodist church, Wednesday afternoon, March 26, 1930, conducted by Rev. W.R. Ireland, assisted by Rev. Earl Platner. Burial was made in Woodlawn cemetery.




George Henry Butcher was born Sept 27, 1874 in Lovilla, Iowa to Levi Butcher and Cordelia (Della) Plumber.
He married Laura B. Wilcox in Monroe County November 27, 1898.

In 1900 Monroe County, Iowa, George Butcher is 25, married one year to Laura B. born Dec 1875 in Iowa.

In 1910 Washington County, Colorado, George and Laura have Vyril O. 9, Verna C. 6, and Loyd E. six months.

Verna C. Butcher died in 1912, and is buried in Yuma # 48448626.

November 22, 1918 "Mrs. Levi Butcher, the mother of Mrs. W.W. Williams, was called to Lovilla, Iowa, last week by the death of a son."

In 1920 Washington County, George and Laura have Vyril O.
19, Lloyd E. 12, William D. 5, and her mother Mahala Wilcox 62 is with them.
George died in 1939, and is buried in Yuma # 48448621, with Laura Bell (Willcox) Butcher 1875-1973 # 48448623.

1939 "Mrs. J. P. Flora of Wesley, Iowa and Mrs. Alva Barnes of Des Moines, Iowa, came in on the early morning train Thursday of last week to attend funeral services for their brother, George H. Butcher." <

August 1939 Algona, Iowa "Mr. and Mrs. John Flora, with the daughter Mildred, attended a 50th anniversary celebration of the United Brethren church at Lovilla last week Sunday. Mr. Flora helped build the church, and they attended when the church was dedicated 50 years ago. After attending the celebration the Floras returned last week Tuesday, accompanied by Mrs. Alva Barnes, Des Moines, a sister of Mrs. Flora, and Mrs. George Butcher, Yuma, Colorado, a sister-in-law of Mrs. Flora."

September 11, 1947 "Mr. and Mrs. Cal Martin of Artesia, New Mexico visited last week at the home of their cousin, Mrs. Laura Butcher."

1953 "Mrs. Charles Brown of Des Moines, Iowa, spent Thursday through Saturday here visiting Mrs. Laura Butcher - her cousin, and Mrs. Dora Bussear - her mother- of Otis."

August 16, 1973 "Funeral services for Mrs. Laura B. Butcher will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church. Rev. Wayne Bute will officiate and burial will be in the Yuma Cemetery beside her husband.
Mrs. Butcher died Friday night at the age of 97 years."

July 6, 1950 "Mr. and Mrs. Verly Butcher now live at Grand Junction, and he is doing construction work. They are the parents of three sons and one daughter."

December 20, 1956 "Verl Butcher and children, Hubert, Marquite, Danny and Buford, visited briefly in Yuma with Mr. Butcher's mother, Mrs. Laura Butcher, as they were in route to Belleville Kansas, from thier home in Grand Junction. Mrs. Verl Butcher was called to Amarillo, Texas on Fridy by the sudden death of her mother, Mrs. Henry Nichols, who was a resident of Yuma many years ago. Mrs. Butcher accompanied the bodey to Belleville, Kansas for funeral services and burial on Tuesday.

In 1930 Yuma, William is divorced, and Walter and Vivian are with him.
Also in Yuma, Bertha 36 has Howard 8 and Maxine 4.

Walter Williams, born June 3, 1916, died January 11, 1967, and is buried in Fort Logan.

Maxine Thelma Williams, born March 6, 1925 in Yuma, died June 26, 1998, name as Helms in 1948, and as Ricks in 1961.
She's buried in Wichita County, Texas 1925-1998 # 96634490, with Jessie Ricks 1924-1982.

Howard served in the Army in WWII - was in Italy in 1944.

Walter served in the Marines in WWII, wounded in 1943.
He was the Yuma town marshal in 1946 after Glenn Borrows died, and was deputised as a Yuma County deputy sheriff.

1958 "Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wiliams and daughters Sandra and Linda of Thornton were dinner guests of Mrs. Laura Butcher."

Ora Butcher was George's brother, and Laura's brother-in-law

In 1910 Monroe County, Iowa, Ora is nine, a nephew of Gabriel 60 and Katherine 55 Strief. Gabriel was born in Switzerland, Katherine in Iowa. They have Dave 26 and Katie 18.
(Catharine Butcher was the daughter of John Butcher 59 and Tyreace Butcher 57 in Monroe County in 1880. Sarah A. is 26, and Mary E. 18. Martha Kathryn Butcher 1855-1930 is buried in Monroe County # 62740190. Her obituary said she had daughter Mrs. Anna Violet of Harland, Montana and Mrs. Kathryn Imler of Cathleen Florida. A sister Mrs. A.C. Nedderman survived her.)

In 1910 Phillips County, Kansas, Thomas and Mary E. Koons both married twice, have Thomas A. 10. Thomas's daughter Elsie Riley 17, and her daughter Clara A. six months, both born in Kansas, are with them.

August 16, 1928 Sunshine Valley, Yuma County items "Mr. and Mrs. John Riley gave a dinner Sunday in honor of their daughter Clara, who is now Mrs. Orie Butcher."

In 1930 Yuma County, Ora is a farm laborer, 29, born in Iowa, with Clara E. 20 born in Kansas.

January 7, 1952 Des Moines "Services for Mrs. Jennie Barnes. 72, of 542 Guthrie ave., who died Saturday at Broadlawns General hospital, will be at 2 p. m. Wednesday at Lavina, with burial there. The body will lie in state at the Miller Evangelical United Brethren church, 301S E. Thirteenth at., Tuesday from 3 to 9 p. m. Surviving are three brothers, Roy Butcher, Lavina; Ora Butcher, Otis, Colo., and Leo Butcher, Southgate, Cal.

1937 Fresno ----Mrs. Ella C. Dunn, 53, the wife of G. C. Dunn, died today at the family home at 3822 Madison Avenue. She was a native of Iowa and had resided in Fresno for twelve years and in California twenty four years. Besides her husband, Mrs. Dunn is survived by a son, Gershun C. Dunn of Fresno, and three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Dallas Bussear of Hines, Mrs. J. I. Robinson of Canada and Mrs. James Lisle and Clarence and Roy Hungerford all of Colorado. (Cyrus A. 53 and Jennie Hungerford 51 lived north of Otis, Colorado in 1910, with Roy V. 16, Clarence E. 13, and Hazel A. 12.
Cyrus Allen Hungerford 1854-1926 is buried in Otis # 91950116. So is Virginia "Jennie" Pattee Hungerford 1857-1931 # 91950035.

May Robinson, born Sept 8, 1880 in Iowa, father Hungreford, mother Pattee, died Dec 8, 1951 in Los Angeles County.
1922 "Farm for sale - 160 acres seven miles west of Yuma. Eight room house, barn, etc., fenced - Mrs. Anna Lisle, Hyde, Colorado."
Cora E. Lisle, 32, is married to James Lisle 32, a carpenter, and they're in Washington County, Colorado in 1920. Mansford is 9, Harold 8, and Maida A. 7.
Cora E. Hungerford Lisle 1887-1962 is buried in Otis # 79362721, with James Victor Lisle 1883-1964.
Son Monford Lisle 1910-1975 is also buried in Otis # 79365828, with Lucile 1913-1966.
January 9, 1975 "A former Otis resident, Manford Lisle, was buried Wednesday afternoon beside his wife, Lucile, in the Otis cemetery. Rev. Tom Westfall officited the service3. Mr. Lisle passed away at Rifle."
So is Harold 1911-1985 # 79365523 and his wife Vera L. Lisle 1911-2006.



Maida A. Wadleigh, born April 22, 1912, died Feb 18, 1991 in Los Angeles County.


Clarence is single in 1930 Washington County, Colorado, living alone, farming, age 32.

Roy Vance Hungerford is buried in Fort Lupton, Colorado 1893-1986, # 57068244.
Hazel is married to Dallas R. Bussear in 1920 Otis Colorado. He's a dry goods salesman, and they have Virginia 2 and Maryetta six months.
Hazel, born March 24, 1898 in Iowa, died March 5, 1976 in Los Angeles County.

November 13, 1919 "Hazel Grove, one of the Yuma High School senior girls, was married last Saturday to Mr. Ray Hungerford."
