March 29, 1917 Sutherland, O'Brien County Iowa

Although this nuptial event occurred several weeks ago, it is still a matter of news to nearly everyone in this, the old home place of the bride, and her many friends here will be interested in reading this account of the marriage, which was handed to us this week, taken from the Otis (Colo.) Independent.
Mr. Emmet Bussear and Miss Ruby O'Donnell, both of the Burdette country, were married Saturday, February 10th, in the Catholic church at Yuma, Rev. Father Juily, of Fort Morgan, speaking the words that united this young couple for life.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Bussear residing north of town and is an industrious young farmer. The bride is one of Washington county's most successful teachers and is now teaching the Lewis school. The will reside on the bride's farm northeast of Otis. That theirs may be a long, happy and prosperous married life is the wish of their many friends.

August 1958 "Mrs. Ruby Bussear and grandson, Bobby Neal, of Lawndale, California visited the first of last week at the homes of Mrs. Laura Butcher and Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Wilcox. On Wednesday they left for Iowa and were accompanied by her brother, Walter O'Donnell.

1923 San Bernardino County "Stewart Smith, of Los Angeles, was a week-end guest at the J. K. Spray home. Sunday guests of the Sprays included jjimrle Starbuck and son, Luther, and little Marie Hillary, of Los Angeles: Mrs. Nelson Gathercole, of Hemet; Dallas Bussear and daughter, Virginia, of Artesia."

Dallas R. Bussear registered for WWI with an address of Burdett, Colorado, farming, born January 19, 1891 at Monroe Indiana, with a wife and child.
They're in Long Beach in 1930, Dallas 38, Hazel 32, Virginia 12, June M. 6, Dallas R. 2, and nephew Monford A. Lisle 20.
In 1940 Downey California, Dallas is 49, driving a lumber truck, with Hazel 42 - she said they both were born in Iowa. June 16 was born in California.

Dallas Ray Bussear, born January 19, 1891 in Indiana, died Feb 22, 1943 in Los Angeles County.
Hazel born March 24, 1898 in Iowa, died March 5, 1976 in Los Angeles County.

Virginia B. Garris, born May 16, 1917 in Colorado to mother Hungerford and father Bussear, died May 12, 1997 in Los Angeles County. Allen G. Gazrris 1913-1998 had Patricia, Glenda, Ray Allen 1941-1, and Ptricia.



"Gerald Seaman, 82, a resident of Albuquerque for 11 years, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004. He is survived by his son, William Scott Seaman and wife Carol of Camarillo, CA; daughters, Cynthia T. Ross of Valrico, FL, and Lisa K. Flynn of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Timothy, Nathan, Dallas, Bailey, and Meghan; brother, Beverly Seaman and wife Margie; sister, Rebecca Guthrie and husband Robert; and sister-in-law, Ruth Seaman. He was preceded in death by his brother Wilfrid. Gerald worked for Shell Chemical Company for 40 years. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling. Lisa Kaye Beldon, age 54 of Frisco, Texas passed away on January 6, 2015 in Frisco. She was born on October 19, 1960 in Houston, Texas to Gerald McNutt and Mavis June (Bussear) Seaman. Lisa married Harold Douglas Beldon on February 16, 2006 in Washington DC. She was a Loan Officer in the Mortgage Industry.

Lisa will be remembered with love by her husband, Harold Beldon of Frisco, Texas; son, Arthur Bailey Flynn III and wife, Ashley of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Meghan Colleen Flynn of Frisco, Texas; mother, June Seaman of Frisco, Texas; brother, Scott Seaman and wife, Carol of Camarillo, California; sister, Cynthia Ross of Bradenton, Florida; nieces and nephews, Matthew Seaman, Jessica Ross, Tim Ross, Nathan Seaman and Dallas Ross; Bailey and Meghan’s dad, Arthur Bailey Flynn, Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She is preceded in death by her father, Gerald McNutt Seaman.



"Scott Seaman, president of the California Police Chiefs Association, said the economy "has had a significant effect on the ability of agencies to maintain recruitment and momentum around recruitment. It has exacerbated the natural dynamics and fluctuations of hiring."

Other police agencies in the state are getting fewer qualified applicants, said Seaman, blaming a lack of advertising, jobs that are opening up in other sectors and applicants who are unfamiliar with law enforcement requirements.

Seaman, chief of police in Los Gatos, near San Jose, said his department is hiring an experienced officer for the first time in three years. "

Roey James Bussear, 62, long time grain elevator employee and cement finisher, died at his home route 5 after a year's illness, came to Lincoln 34 vears ago om Iowa and was at the Gooch mill for many years. Surviving are his wife, Pearl: three daughters, Mrs. Ben Kuhner and Miss Alta Jane Bussear of Lincoln and Mrs. Velma Brown of Wheatland, Wyoming, two sons, Robert of Lincoln and Francis of Anaheim, Calif., his mother, Mrs. Dora Bussear of Otis, Colorado, two brothers, Dallas of Hynes, Calif., and Emmett of Hawthorne, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Brown of Des Moines and Mrs. Henry Bench of Nevada, Iowa.

Roey 1880-1942 is buried in Lincoln # 21146974, with Pearl 1888-1953, and Catherine D. Bussear Kuhner 1917- 2014.
1927 Lincoln "Francis Bassear, eighteen, was paroled for two years by Jadge Shepherd of the district court Monday morning when he pleaded guilty to forging a check for $5 signed "M. H, Frea/en." He also admitted, altho he was not charged with it, that he forged a check for $109 aad bought a motorcycle with the proceeds. The motorcycle was returned and Busears father made good the forged check. The boy when before Judge Shepherd declared that be had never been in trouble before and that if paroled he would strictly observe his parole. He was turned over to H. T. T»]*rc», a fireman, and is to make weekly report to Mr. Pi»r«. H« ha-« «*rv«"J thirty days in Jail. Mr. TV+Tf* and the boy's father Jat«»r r*d«ri for him and Mr. Bussear declared that he was a good boy and had never been in trouble before. Judge Shepherd warned him that if he broke any of the terms of the parole it would mean a sentence to the Nebraska..."

Alta Jane Bussear, born at Lincoln Oct 17, 1923 to Roey Bussear and Pearl Burke, died as Hester July 31, 2005, buried in Riverside National # 72624613, with Burgess Nelson Hester 1922-1996.

Velma Bussear, born April 24, 1915 at Lincoln, was listed as Qualls in 1937, and as Brown in 1988.

Kathleen Brown Johnson, 67, of Lebanon, Tennessee, died April 11, 2010 at the home of her daughter.

She was born Aug. 6, 1942, in Casper, Wyoming. She was the daughter of the late J. E. and Velma Bussear Brown. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughter, Holly Sue Benjamin of Lebanon; sister, Sandra Frazier of Laramie; brother, Robert Dennis Brown of Cheyenne; and a half sister, Bonnie Dougherty.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Johnson and a brother, Jim Brown.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the home of her daughter at 518 Rocky Valley Road, Lebanon. The family requests no flowers please.


May 27, 1963 Mason City Iowa:
Charles B. Brown, 83, former resident of Ottumwa and Des Moines, died Sunday in a Mason City hospital.
He had lived in Mason City the last 3Mt years, making his home with a son-in- law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Jacobs, 1206 3rd SW. Mr. Brown was born March 22, 1880, in Lovilia.
He was married to Jessie Bussear, Oct. 23, 1901, in Lovilia. She preceded him in death. He operated a grocery in Ottumwa until he retired in 1938 and moved to Des Moines.

Ruth Genevieve Berry born Aug 21, 1902, died in Martin County Minnesota Nov 15, 1982.
She was in Hamilton County, Iowa in 1940, married to Jean M. Schurtz, with Alice, Charles, and Richard.
"Richard Jean (Dick) Schurtz, age 75, of Baxter, Minn., went to be with the Lord on Sept. 12, 2011, at Essentia-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
Richard was born July 4, 1936, in Webster City, Iowa, as the youngest of three children born to Jean Meredith and Ruth (Brown) Schurtz. At age 6, the family moved to Trimont, Minn., where he graduated from high school in 1954. "

Betty Jean Brown was born May 21, 1922 at Albia, Monroe County, Iowa to Charles B. Borwn and Jessie P. Bussear, dying as Betty J. Lott July 25, 2006.
She's buried in Des Moines # 84590083.

Ethel M. Brown married Millard A. Young in 1929 in Schuyler County, Missouri, and they're living with Charles and Jessie in 1930 Des Moines.

Ethel Marie Orrick, born Sept 7, 1906, died in Tom Green County, Texas February 2, 1971.
She was to be buried in Fairmount Cemetery, San Angelo. # 42644674, with Ray LaFayette Orrick 1908-1953.

1922 "Mrs. C. P. Willcox left for Artesia, New Mexico, Monday to visit at the home of her sister during the winter months.
That might be Lydia Ann Parker, 1866-1916 buried in Artesia # 17860483 "Wife of A. J. Parker - Mother of Cleo Cleta Martin." A.J. Parker 1855-1930 is buried in Artesia, # 17860500.

In 1900 Randolph County, Lydia A. Parker born August 1866, married 14 years to Andrew J. Parker April 1852 Indiana, a farmer. They have Ota Blanch July 1887 and Cleo Cleta Feb 1889.

In 1910 Artesia, New Mexico, Andrew is a contractor, with Lydia 43, Cleta 20, and Blanche Scott 22, married three years but no spouse.
Blanche O. Scott married Jacob G. Clapper Nov 21, 1917 in Henry County, Indian.
In 1930 Hagerstown Blanche runs a restaurant, 41, married to Gordon Clapper, 43.
In 1940 Gordon, a mechanic, and Blanche have a rooming house in Hagerstown.
Jacob died Dec 22, 1949, per SSDI, but one tree said he died in 1953.


In 1920 Cleo is married to Carl E. Martin, farmer, 31, born in Nebraska. They have Mary E. 6, Ruth 2, and Carl Dean four months.
They're still in Artesia in 1930, with the three kids.
Cleo Cleta Martin 1889-1966 is buried in Artesia, # 21472406, with Carl E. 1888-1974. Carl Dean Martin 1919-2011 is also with them.

Dean was born August 20, 1919 at the family home in Artesia; the son of Carl Earnest Martin and Cleo Cleta Parker Martin. Dean graduated from Artesia HS in 1937 and New Mexico State University in 1941.

He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan during the occupation of Japan. After serving in the Army he worked in Wolf Creek Pass, Colorado as a cowboy. Later he farmed in lower Louisiana before he returned to Artesia in 1958 to care for his parents and the family farm. He was active with the horse events at the Eddy County Fair and Jr. Livestock Show. He continued to farm the family farm until 1986. In subsequent years he worked as a cowboy for Richard Champion.

Dean was preceded in death by his mother and father, sisters Ruth Parker Martin Riley and Evelyn Martin Wagner, niece Dana Wagner, and close friend Roy O'Bannon.

Survivors include nephews Russell Wagner, Joel Wagner, Brian Riley and wife GiYoung, and Denis Riley and wife Jean; close friend Trini Castillo; and several great- nephews and nieces including Riannon Wagner, Daniel Riley and Danaeh Riley.

Kenneth D. Wagoner 1906-2001 is buried in Webster County Nebraska # 56958038, with Mary Evelyn Martin Wagoner 1913-1995 # 56958060.

Juanita Scott, daughter of Roscoe Scott and Blanche Parker, married Raymond Weber August 25, 1928 in Wayne County, Indiana. He was 23, living at Hagerstown, Indiana. She was born August 20, 1910 in Artesia, but was currently living in Hagerstown.
They're in Hagerstown in 1930, Raymond 24 is a factory laborer, Waneta A. 19, New Mexico.
In 1940 Hagerstown they have David R. 3.
Juanita 1910-1991 is buried in Hagerstown # 88502205.

Logansport, Indiana November 1969:
Mrs. Mildred Harriet Paul, 77, former local resident, died Sunday after several months' illness. She had been at her home, Rt. 1, Delphi, where she lived with her daughter, Mary M., her son-in-law, Douglas G., and her grand-daughter, Luanda M. Million. Born May 22, 1892, in the White Branch community of Henry County, she was the daughter of Jacob and Laura Taylor Clapper. Her husband, B. Frank Paul, died in 1949. Two brothers and a sister also preceded her in death. She had lived in Connersville, Elwood and Logansport, leaving here four years ago. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Hagerstown, Ind. Other survivors are two nieces, Mrs. Mildred Wallace, Richmond and Mrs. Juanita Weber, Hagerstown; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Blanche Clapper, Hagerstown. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gray Mortuary in Hagerstown with burial in the cemetery of the Brick Church of the Brethren there.

1922 Lone Star items "Mr. and Mrs. Tel Willcox drove up to Chappel Nebraska to spend Sunday with their daughter Mrs. Leila Ayres family."
They visited in 1923 with Mrs. Ed Ayres in Chappell.

March 1964 "Mrs. Ray Willcox was called to Nebraska by the death of her nephew, Ronald Magruder, who died at the age of 13 years. He had been in ill health since a small boy. Mr.rs. Willcox was accompanie, by her mother, Mrs. Glenn Roberts of Greeley.
November 1964 "Mr. and Mrs. Ray Willcox and children spent the week end in Greeley, attending the football game and visiting at the parental home of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Willcox adn Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Roberts."

September 1966 Mrs. L.W. Ayers of Chappell, Nebraska visited last week with her mother, Mrs. ALice Wilcox, reisdent of Park View.

1937 Fresno ----Mrs. Ella C. Dunn, 53, the wife of G. C. Dunn, died today at the family home at 3822 Madison Avenue. She was a native of Iowa and had resided in Fresno for twelve years and in California twenty four years. Besides her husband, Mrs. Dunn is survived by a son, Gershun C. Dunn of Fresno, and three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Dallas Bussear of Hines, Mrs. J. I. Robinson of Canada and Mrs. James Lisle and Clarence and Roy Hungerford all of Colorado. (Cyrus A. 53 and Jennie Hungerford 51 lived north of Otis, Colorado in 1910, with Roy V. 16, Clarence E. 13, and Hazel A. 12.
Cyrus Allen Hungerford 1854-1926 is buried in Otis # 91950116. So is Virginia "Jennie" Pattee Hungerford 1857-1931 # 91950035.

1922 "Farm for sale - 160 acres seven miles west of Yuma. Eight room house, barn, etc., fenced - Mrs. Anna Lisle, Hyde, Colorado."
Cora E. Lisle, 32, is married to James Lisle 32, a carpenter, and they're in Washington County, Colorado in 1920. Mansford is 9, Harold 8, and Maida A. 7.
Cora E. Hungerford Lisle 1887-1962 is buried in Otis # 79362721, with James Victor Lisle 1883-1964.
Son Monford Lisle 1910-1975 is also buried in Otis # 79365828, with Lucile 1913-1966.
January 9, 1975 "A former Otis resident, Manford Lisle, was buried Wednesday afternoon beside his wife, Lucile, in the Otis cemetery. Rev. Tom Westfall officited the service3. Mr. Lisle passed away at Rifle."
