John C. and Maggie (McLean) Shively


In 1900 Audrain County, Missouri, John McLean born October 1858 , married 16 years to Nannie J. May 1856, both Missouri, have Tyson D. Oct 1884, Maggie March 1866, and Lizzie Dec 1888.

In 1905 Jewell County, Kansas, S.E. and Anna Shively are both 54, Mary Ann 60, Wilbur 20, John 17, Florence and Floyd 14, and Marion 22.
(Mary is the sister of Samuel E. Shively in the 1900 Jewell County census.)

In 1910 John is in Washington County, Colorado, 21 farming alone. His parents were born in Pennsylvania.
Maggie McLean is in Kit Carson County in 1910, no occupation, 24 born in Missouri. Next household is Tyson McLean 25, Missouri, farming.
John registered for WWI in Kit Carson County, Colorado, with an address of Tuttle, born February 12, 1888 at Otego, Kansas, farming iwth a wife and three children.

January 26, 1939

In 1940 Kit Carson County, John 52, and Maggie 54, are farming. Harlan 26 born in Colorao, no occupation is married to Jean 21 Nebraska. She was in Custer County, Nebraska in 1935. Daughter Frances Dickinson, 25, divorced, born in Colorado and her son Jackie 7 are with them - Frances is a beauty shop operator.

October 30, 1947 "Harlan Shively is helping his father, John Shively, put the finishing touches on the house the latter has built. Sharon Shively is attending Kirk school while her parents are here. Their home is in Washington."


John died in 1957, and is buried in Kirk.



Maggie (McLean) Shively 1886-1985 is buried in Kirk, # 67354710.





June 20, 1963 "Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Shively and son John, of Seattle, Washington came Tuesday are visiting with his mother, Mrs. Maggie Shively and the Elmer Boones and Claris Crawford families. They plan to return to their home the later part of the week."

1974 "Harlan Fay Shively was born at Kirk May 30, 1913 and passed away at his home in Seattle, Wash. Feb 1, at the age of 60 years, 8 months and 1 day.

He was baptised and became a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church at Kirk when he was a boy. He attended the public, elementary and high schools in Kirk. Following graduation he attended the Grand Island Business College, Grand Island, Neb.

During his youth Harlan farmed with his father on a ranch near Kirk. June 2, 1937, he and Neva Jeanne Dennis of Anselmo, Neb., were united in marriage. They made their home at Kirk where Harlan continued to farm for a few years. [Date omitted] a daughter, Sharon Kay, was born to their union.

In the fall of 1943 Harlan and his family moved to Seattle where he obtained employment with the Boeing Co. After a number of years, they returned to Kirk to operate the ranch and while there, a son, John Guy, was born [date omitted].

In 1953 Harlan became a charter member of the Kirk Lions Club. In 1956 Harlan and his family returned to Seattle to work again at the Boeing Co., where he was employed at the time of his death.

Harlan will be remembered by his family as a devoted and loving husband and father. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Jeannie, their daughter Sharon Kay Finlan, husband Jerry and daughters Simon Yvette and Sabrina Nannette of Olderwood Manor, Wash; a son John Guy Shively, his wife Wendy and their son John Harlan of Kirkland Wash; his mother, Maggie Shively; two sisters, Mrs Elmer Boone and Mrs. Claris Crawford, all of Kirk; many other relatives and a host of friends"


December 10, 1959 Mr. and Mrs. Terry Finland of Seattle Washington are the proud parents of a baby girl born November 24. Mrs. Finland is the former Sharon Shively. Mrs. Maggie Shively is the great grandmother."

Neva Jeanne Shively, born Aug 4, 1919, died Nov 22, 2009.



Claris A. Crawford 1910-1994 is buried in Kirk, # 67354371, with V. Frances Crawford 1915-1997.


December 29, 1932
May 4, 1933 "Mrs. Elizabeth Boone is back at the Lloyd Amy home after a couple of months absence on account of illness. Miss Minnie Lohmeyer was at the Amy Home during Mrs. Boone's absence."

May 11, 1933

June 1, 1933 "Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Boone, who occupied the house just south of the school, moved their household goods to the John Shively place where they will live for a time. .."Mrs. Elmer Boone entertained the Alumni at ther home Wednesday afternoon. A good time is reported."

September 3, 1936
August 13, 1938 "G.A. Meade took the Motsinger truck and moved the furniture for the Elmer BOone family to their new home in Arvada, Sunday. Elmer has a position in the Arvada schools for the coming term."

August 17, 1939

December 24, 1941 Elmer and Elizabeth had a baby girl.

September 13, 1945
In September 1947 Elmer Boone of Kirk was added to the Joes high school.
January 31, 1952
May 7, 1953 "Mrs. Betty Fast has been in quite bad condition in the St. Francis, Kansas hospital. Her father, Elmer Boone, gave a blood transfusion Sundayh and Mrs. Francis Crawford gave one Monday."

June 30, 1960
She had a pre-nuptial shower at the Ronald Hutton home.

February 9, 1961 "Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Boone are spending Sunday with their daughter and husband, the Melvin Wrights, in Greeley.

November 15, 1962
December 25, 1980 "Mr. and Mrs. Dick Dietz bought the Elmer Boone house in Kirk. Mr. and Mrs. Boone will move to Stratton."

In 1910 Yuma County, John Y. McLean is a mail carrier, 51, widowed, with daughter Lizzie Graves, 21, married two years, with her son Jewel Y. 2, bron in COlorado.

John Y. McLean proved up a quarter in 10, 5S 46W in 1912.
In 1920 John is back in Audrain County, with his widowed mother E.A. Ellis 83.
(Elizabeth McLane had married John Ellis in Boone County, Missouri April 11, 1871. She's buried in Audrain County # 32816349. "Wife of 1st: John Yerby McLean-mother of Charles Thomas McLean and John Yerby McLean Jr. Wife of second: John W Ellis-mother of Nolan Vincil Ellis, Arthur Maud Ellis, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Octave Felix Ellis. ")

May 8, 1913 "Tyson McLean gave this neighborhood quite a surprise by going to Denver and returning with Miss Lila Gleaves as his wife. They will live on the Culbertson farm north of the old Fox post office."

Tyson D. McLean proved up 200 acres in 35, 5 1/2S 47W in 1919.
In 1930 Yuma County, John Y. McLean 72 is widowed, with daughter Elizabeth Wise 41. She and Homer Wise 42 have Leland 14, Arnold 10, and John P. 5.

John Y. McLean 1858-1937 is buried in Kirk # 28342827.
June 17, 1937
So is Tyson McLean 1884-1972 # 28342899, with Lilas M. 1893-1975.




Their son Chester was killed in action January 10, 1945 in Luzon.
