December 1913 Eckley " Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sullivan, living three miles northwest of Eckley, entertained a company of their friends and neighbors with dinner on that national holiday. It was an elaborate dinner, two large turkeys with other viands usually served making up the menu. The feast was heartily enjoyed and a jolly, social day is reported by those present.
Among the quests were: Mrs. Sullivan's grandfather, George Probasco of Abilene, Kansas: Mr. Sullivan's mother; Mrs. Sullivan's brothers, Guy and Myron Probasco; and her sister, Miss Allie Probasco, of Bartley, Nebraska: Mr. and Mrs. Chester McCafferty; Cliff McCafTerty: Misses Bertha and Grace Hess; Mr. and Mrs. H. D. East and sons, Ray and Paul: Mrs. Edman and son Minor; Alva Lammy; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hess; Mr. and Mrs. Osburn Probasco: all of Eckley and vicinity. "

December 1914 Eckley "Sunday being the 30th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. F j Hess, their children and other relatives gave them a surprise by coming with well-filled baskets at the noon hour. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hess. Mr. and Mrs. Os Probasco and son, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Sullivan and family, Mr. and Mrs. Chester McCafferty and son, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Probasco and family, Miss Bell Bowman, Roy and John Chase, Cliff McCafferty and Myron Probasco. To say Mr. and Mrs. Hess were surprised would be putting it mildly. "

February 1916 "The following friends and neighbors gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Osbern Probasco last Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sullivan and family, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Sewell and son; Mr. and Mrs. Frank. Hess, Bertha and Grace Hess, Grandma Sullivan, Mr. and Mrs. O. Strawder and family: John Chase and Elmer Strawder. Ice cream and cake were served and at a late hour all departed for home reporting a very good time."

March 1916 "Grandma Sullivan is reported as being on the sick list at this writing. "

"Perry Osborn Probasco, son of George W. and Eva A. Probasco, was born December 4, 1887, near Abilene, Kan., and died November 3, 1955, at Loveland. He married Elsie Anna Hess in McCook, Neb.
To this union were born three children: Mrs. Earl W. Eastin of Loveland, Marlin Probasco of Denver, and Charles Probasco of Leadville. The children and his wife survive him. Other survivors include a brother and four sisters. They are Dan Probasco, Mrs. Ed Sullivan, Mrs. Charlie Hess and Mrs. Gene Steele, all of Loveland, and Mrs. George Fleischer of Topeka. There are seven grandchildren.
Services were held from Kibby's Funeral Home at Loveland with Rev. Bert Edwards officiating. Interment was at the Loveland Burial Park."

May 1930 "Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sullivan of northwest of Eckley are in the Wray Hospital, being treated for serious injuries, the result of a railroad crossing accident, five miles west of Eckley last Saturday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan were coming into Eckley when the accident happened. The heavy snow made it difficult to see and they came on the crossing in front of a west bound stock train. The train struck them, completely demolishing their car. Mrs. Sulivan suffered a broken collar bone, broken wrist, and severe cuts and bruises. Mr. Sullivan was severely cut and bruised. The train crew brought them to Wray where they were placed in the Wray Hospital for examination and treatment. Their condition is considered quite serious. The accident happened at a private crossing at about 10:30 Saturday."

Decemer 1941 "Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sullivan received word last Thursday that their son-in law, John Mason, had been seriously injured when a pile of lumber fell on him as he was working on defense work in San Francisco, California. Latest word is that Mr. Mason is some better but still not out of danger. Mrs. Sullivan had just returned Monday week from a visit at the Mason home in San Francisco."

"Velma M. (Everett) Sullivan, 90, of Loveland died July 20, 2011 at the Sierra Vista Nursing Home. Velma was born in Saint Louis, MO on January 12, 1921 and was adopted as an infant by Wayne and Bessie (Hensen) Everett.
Velma grew up in Eckley, Colorado. She married Wesley J. Sullivan on February 26, 1937 in Akron, CO. Velma and her husband farmed the Sullivan homestead until 1957 when they moved to Loveland. Wesley died in 1987, just a month before they would have celebrated their 50th anniversary.
Velma had many careers during her lifetime. After farming, she worked at the Safeway in Yuma. In Loveland, she worked at the Dude Corral, Hiway house, Village Inn, Schmidts Bakery, Safeway and she did food demos at various places in town. She also retired from Hewlett Packard with 15 years' service. She had a gift of gab and never met a stranger. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, embroidery work and reading.
Velma is survived by two sons: Jack (Pat) and Kent (Pam), one daughter, Debi (Steve) Sekavec, all of Loveland, daughter-in-law Bonnie Sullivan of Lake Havasu, AZ, 9 grand children, 2 step-grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Wesley Sullivan, a daughter Doris (Sullivan) Heinrich, a son Brad Sullivan, and a grandson, John Wesley Sullivan, and a step brother Mark Kinneman.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am, Monday, July 25, 2011 at Allnutt Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Loveland Burial Park. "
