DAVID SWEAZY, farmer, P. 0. Beecher City, was born in November
12,1833, in Hocking County, Ohio, the third son of Rev. Anthony
Sweazy and Susana Clark.
Rev. Anthony was born November 20, 1800, in New Jersey; son
of Henry, whose wife was a Cramer. Subject is of German descent.
Henry Sweazy removed with his family at an early day from New
Jersey, and settled in Hocking County as early as 1814, where he
died. He raised a family of eleven children, who settled in Ohio and
Indiana. David came West to this locality in the fall of 1853; his
father had been out the year previous and purchased 400 acres in
this township; cost $4.50 per acre. He remained here until his
death, September 2,1864. He was for many years a member of the
United Brethren; he first united with the Methodist Episcopal
Church, afterward joined the United Brethren Church, and in 1840 was
licensed as minister in same, and was ordained in 1844. On account
of ill health, could not travel, and worked in a local way, and for
one of his advantages was past the mediocre of his profession. In
early life, was a Democrat; later in life was a stanch Republican.
His wife died in June, 1861. To them eleven children were born, ten
grew up—Henry, William, David, Henderson D., Anthony, Louis C.,
Jane, Melinda, Hannah, Susanah, William, Henderson D. and David
lives in this township.
Subject came out here and engaged in making improvements;
remained with his father about eighteen months, when he began for
himself, and in March, 1856, married Mary E., daughter of John
Miller, and Susan Wantland, of Knox County, Ohio. After marriage he
located where he now lives, and since remained. Has 190 acres. Has
eleven children born, eight living—Charles M., Amanda J., Alverda
V., Jessie W., Eliza J., Emma F., Mary A. and Louis E., deceased,
died young; he has been a member of the United Brethren Church smce

Andrew2, ?1) was born December 15, 1831 in Indiana
County, Pennsylvania, and died September 18, 1875 in Ramsay, Fayette
County, Illinois. He married Lydia Jane Stokes June 27, 1861 in
Fayette, Illinois. She was born October 06, 1835 in Fayette County,
Illinois, and died August 04, 1904 in Wray, Colorado.

In 1900, Glendale precinct (then Arapahoe County, now Yuma County),
Charles M. born July 1857 and Della Feb 1870, both Illinois, have been
married nine years. Elsie, born June 1891 in Colorado, Walter D. Jan 1895,
Charles' siblings Emma F. Dec 1865 -and Louis E. Jan 1875
In 1906 Elsie was a student at the
Pleasant Hill School
December 1909 "N.B. Miller of Illinois is visiting his nephews, Charles and
Ed. Sweazy, out by Vernon."
In 1910 Charles 52 and Della 40 have Elsie 18 and David W. 15.
Elsie Sweazy graduated May 4, 1911 from the Yuma County High School, one of
twelve.
Elsie proved up two quarters in 14, 3S 45W in 1917.
David Walter Sweazy registered in Yuma County, farming with his father,
single, born January 23, 1895 at Vernon.
In 1920 Elsie is married to Cecil S.
Dinsmore, 28, and they have Charles L. 1.
Charles and Della are living in Wray in 1920 and 1930, no occupation.
Della 1870-1934 # 79518702 and Charles M. 1857-1938 are buried in Vernon
Glendale. So is Della's mother Lydia Jane (Stokes) Kier 1835-1904.
1915 "Walter Sweazy received his diploma from York College a few days ago."

March 29, 1917 "C.M. and Ed Sweazy of near Vernon received word the latter
part of last week announcing the death of a brother that occurred in Illinois
March 9."
1919 "Ed. Sweazy of Vernon was called Saturday to the bedside of his sister,
Mrs. B.N. Miller of Grand Island, who is reported critically ill."
In 1909 Vola and Vally Miller, who had been visiting with uncles and old-time
friends near Vernon, left for Cambridge, Nebraska, where they will visit their
cousins before returning to their home at Phillips, Nebraska. (In 1900 Hamilton
County Benj. born Sep 1844 in Ohio married 19 years to Eliza January 1864
Illinois, with Iva B. May 1882, Lolo and Nola B. July 1886, and Vallie P Sep
1881, all four in Nebraska. In 1910 Hamilton County, Nebraska, Benjamin M
(N) Miller 1850 Ohio -second marriage- is married to an unnamed wife of 29
years, 46, born in Illinois. Lola M. and Nola B. are 23, Vallie P. 18, all
three born in Nebraska. Benjamin N. and Julia are in Grand Island in 1930,
and Benjamin is widowed in 1940. In Phillips Nebraska cemetery a stone has
Eliza I 1853-1878, Eliza I. 1864-1919, and Benj. N. 1849-1943. Vallie P.
Miller married Rev Chalkley Thomas in 1914, was in Imperial Nebraska in 1940,
died in California 1972, and is buried in Phillips #83668872. Ivah
Ethel married Rev. John Benjamin Roe - she's buried in Howard County, Nebraska
1882-1961 # 40337624, - son Paul F. Roe, professor emeritus of music, died
March 9, 1994 at his home in Denton, Texas. Roe, born April 7, 1916 in
Elwood Nebraska, taught music or was music coordinator in the Nebraska public
schools for 20 years before joining the UNT music faculty in 1961... He was the
author of several music textbooks and minister of music in several Methodist
churches. He served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife, B.
Maxine Roe of Denton and two daughters.- Nola Belle married Ross Conklin
Hadlock,
died in 1933, buried in Vernon Glendale Cemetery, and Lola married John William Spencer)

In 1880 Harrison County, Missouri, Silas "Mersifield" is 39, Julia E. 37,
with Mary E. 18, Othel E. 17, Rosetta L. 15, Catharine E. 14, Wm. S. 11, and
David M. 7.
In 1900 Harrison County, Missouri, Julia E. Merrifield, 55, widowed, has Otho,
36, Rose 34, and Bessie 19., born Nov 1880 in Missouri.
Lewis E. Sweazy married Bessie E. Merrifield March 8, 1905 in Mercer County,
Missouri.
March 17, 1905 "Ed Sweazy was married last week and greatly surprised his
friends here. Sure enough as we intimated last week, Ed went on down to Missouri
from Orleans and he not only met his old friends, he picked out a partner for life
and brought her back with him. Mr. L. E. Sweazy was married to Miss Bessie E.
Merrifield near Cainesville, Missouri, last Wednesday, March the 8th, at
the home of the bride's sister Mrs. Mack Bain. Elder Burrow, of Cainesville,
acted as officiating clergyman and pronounced the mystic words that made them man
and wife. After the ceremony tho newly married couple left for Orleans,
Nebraska, where they visited a few days and Monday of this week they arrived in
Wray. Mr. and Mrs. Sweazy will be at home on their farm about seven miles south
of Vernon. The Rattler joins a host of friends in extending congratulations
and good wishes."
April 16, 1909 "The funeral of Ed. Sweazy's baby was held Friday morning at
the Christian church with interment in Glendale cemetery."
1909 "The Sweazy Bros., of near Vernon, are enjoying a visit from their
nieces, Vola and Vally Miller, of Nebraska."
In 1910 Vernon precinct, Louis E. Sweazy is 35, Bessie E. 26 born in
Missouri, with Anna M. 3, Missouri and Otho two months, Colorado.
Norman Miller, 52, uncle, born in Ohio is with them.
May 1913 "David Sweazy returned home to Beecher City, Ill, .after enjoying a
weeks visit with his two sons, Charley and Ed, who live several miles southwest
of Vernon.
Lewis proved up 2 quarters in 15 and 22, 2S 44W in 1915, witnesses Clara E.
Brown, Charles EM. Sweazy, Andrew J. Wakefield, and Richard K. Hays.
October 5, 1916 "Ed Sweazy of near Vernon, is over town today sharing his joy
over the arrival of a baby boy at his home the 24th ult."
In 1920 Yuma County, Lewis A. is 45, Bessie 39, Anna 13, Ocks A. 10, Enos V.
3 and Albert 1.
Anna Sweazy married Wike E. Harms Feb 7, 1925, recorded in Yuma County.
Lewis is widowed in 1930 Yuma County, a farm laborer, and in 1940 is a
boarder with Charles E. Spivey (this has to be brother Charles).
Lewis Edward Sweazy #79927795 - 1875-1941 and Bessie E. 1880-1927 are buried
in Vernon.
O.E. Sweazy is in Colby, Kansas in 1940, no occupation, married to Margaret
29, born in Kansas. Robert 7 was born in Colorado, daughter Otlo 5 in
Kansas. In 1953 Colby Otho works at a service station. Otho M.
Jr. and Robert H. are students with them.
Bessie's brother William is buried in Harrison County # 21685775, father
Silas died 1886 # 21685774, mother Julia died 1901 # 21685769.
MACK BAIN
Mack Bain and Mollie Merrifield married in Harrison County, Missouri in 1903.
In 1910 Vernon precinct, Mack and Mary E., both 45, have been married six
years. She's had one child, still living. Mack was born in
Tennessee, Mary in Missouri.
Ethel Newton, 24, born in Missouri, is in Wray precinct "on the Vernon Road"
in 1910, working for the Limon Brown household
When Arley A. Shiveley filed in 1912, witnesses were Mack Bain, Ethel Newton,
Floyd Shiveley, and Roy Shiveley, all of Vernon.
Mack proved up two quarters in 17 and 20, 2S 45W in 1913.
In 1920 they're in Stringtown precinct, Oklahoma, farming. Nettie
Newton, stepdaughter, 34, born in Missouri, is with them. So is Otho E.
Newton, Mary's brother, 54, born in Missouri.
September 1888 Colby Kansas "Otho Merrifield, of Harrison county, Mo., an old
friend of Mr. Jasper Fulkerson, was in the city on Monday, and called at this
office. We found Mr. Merrifield a pleasant gentleman and a staunch republican."
One tree said that Mary Ellen Merrifield born Dec 2, 1863, married William
Newton, and died Oct 23, 1922.
Mack is widowed in 1930 Stringtown, still farming, and Otho is still with
him. So is Ethel Newton, now 44.
Mack Bain and Ethel Newton are together in 1940 Stringtown.
GEORGE MERRIFIELD
1911 "O.E. Merrifield of Cainesville, Missouri, is expected here soon.
He is a brother of Mrs. Ed. Sweazy and Mrs. Mack Bairn of Vernon, Colorado.
He expects to make this his home."
George F. Merrifield proved up two quarters in 2 and 11, 2S 48W in 1916.
WEBER
1909 "Ed Sweazy was in town Wednesday to meet his sister-in-law, Mrs. C.E.
Weber, who arrived from Cainsville, Missouri. Mr. Weber is expected Friday
with a car of household goods and stock."
Carl E. Weber proved up two quarters in 11, 2S 47W in 1915, witnesses Hannah
A. Lawver, Sterman Lawver, Thoma A. Hooper, and Robert Burge, all of Happyville.
In 1910 and 1920 Yuma County, Carl 1867, Rosetta 1867, with Christopher,
1903, born in Missouri.
One tree said Carl Emil Weber born May 23, 1865 in Quincy, Illinois, married
Rosetta Frances Merrifield 1901 , and died Dec 18, 1949 in Yuma.
It said Rosetta was born Sept 17, 1865 in Missouri, and died in Yuma County
Feb 20, 1926. # 53151390 - Roseitte F. 1885-1926 and Earl E. -1885 -
19__ share a tombstone in Eckley.

Carl is widowed in 1930 Happyville, living alone.
In 1930 Chris M. Weber is in Happyville, married to Avis 32, with her kids Leroy A.
13, Geneva L. 11, and Wesley 8. They have Carl E. Weber, 2.
Christopher is in Mildred precinct in 1940, 36, with Avis 41, Missouri,
with Carl E. 11, Violet R. 8, Garnet E. 6, and stepson LeRoy Barrett, 23,
Colorado. (Velma A. Lefollett is in Mercer County Missouri in 1900, born
June 1897 in Missouri, with parents Lafayette 40 and Ida B. 27, and uncle
Emmit 20. In 1910 Vernon precinct, Ida Bell is married to Charles
W. Easton, and Avis is 12.
Chris M. Weber is buried in Brush 1902-1986 # 15193419 - Army
records have him enlisting Oct 1942, released Feb 1943.
Lafayett Lefollett is 20 in 1880 Mercer County, father John 40.
Half-brother Emmett is eleven months old.
Garnet, born Jan 6 1934, died Dec 19, 2008 in Leavenworth, Kansas,
was the daughter of Christopher and Velma Avis Weber. She married
Kenneth A Dickson in 1950, she married Ernest Douglas, September 17,
1988. He preceded her in death August 14, 2004.
Survivors include, four children, Dean (Dianna) Dickson, Susan (Weber)
Ladd, Kevin (Lisa) and Brad (Gina Dickson; two sisters, Geneva North,
and Violet Brown; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several
nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents,; three brothers, Leroy, Wesley
and Carl Weber; and an infant daughter, Martha June Dickson. #

LEROY BARRETT, 83, of Aurora, formerly of Fort Morgan, died June 13,
1999. Services were June 16, with burial at Memory Garden Cemetery,
Fort Morgan. Mr. Barrett was born in Vernon on April 30, 1916. He
married Hazel Warren, 1954. He served in the Army in the Pacific
during World War II. He was a farmer and worked on campaigns at the
Great Western Sugar Co. He retired from Morgan Community College in
1981. He was a member of the United Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include son Walter of Aurora; sisters Geneva North of
Idalia, Violet Brown of Wray, Garnet Douglas of Missouri; three
grandchildren.

Geneva Lorraine (Barrett) North passed away on Wednesday
evening, August 15, 2012 at Hillcrest Care Center. She
was 94 years old. Geneva was born in Mildred, CO on April
29, 1918 at 11:30 a.m. to Avis and Russell Barrett.
Geneva married Guy Willard North on December 22, 1939 in
Imperial, NE. To this union were born four children:
Kitty Arlene, Janice Diana, Gary Lane and Donald Wayne.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband Guy
Willard (Punk) on January 12, 2002, their youngest son
Donald on November 30, 2011, her parents, three
brothers, one sister, one son-in-law, one grandchild, one
great-grandchild and one great-great grandchild.
Geneva is survived by her daughters Kitty Arlene
Jacobs of Wray, CO and Janice Diana and her husband Don
Elrick of Watkins, CO; son Gary Lane North and his wife
Mary Lou of Burlington, CO; her daughter-in-law Zeke of
Flagler, CO; one sister, Violet Brown of Wray, Colorado,
fourteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren
and nine great-great grandchildren.
Also left to mourn her passing are many nieces,
nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Geneva were held Tuesday, August
21, 2012 at 10:30 at St. John United Church of Christ in
Idalia, CO. Pastor Chuck Wright officiated.
Burial at St. John Cemetery. Arrangements by
Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home of Wray, CO.

Longtime Flagler, Colorado resident Donald Wayne North passed away
on November 30, 2011 at the Porter Hospital in Denver. He was 66
years old.
Don was born on April 17, 1945 in Wray, Colorado to Willard Guy and
Geneva (Barrett) North. He was one of four children born to this
union. Don grew up in Idalia and attended Idalia High School. Don
served in the Navy from 1963 to 1966. On December 23, 1963, Don
married Gloria Ann Lohman.
On October 12, 2004, Don married Zylpha Brown in Burlington.
Don worked for the Natural Gas Company for 44 years, and retired in
March 2011. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, and old cars. He taught
Hunter Safety, was the fire chief for the fire department in
Flagler, and was a first responder with the Flagler Ambulance
Service. He was also a member of the Flagler American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his father, one grandson Garrett Dalton
Seymour and a step son Blake Pursley.
He is survived by his mother Geneva North of Wray, Colorado, his
wife Zylpha of Flagler, three daughters Shari Dougherty and her
husband Duane of Karval, Colorado, Kandi Seymour of Flagler,
Colorado, and Marci North of Goodland, Kansas, a step son Jason
Pursley of Nacogdoches, TX, and a step daughter Danny Ray Hornung
and her husband Louden of Flagler, Colorado; twelve grandchildren,
Jacob Gibbs, David Saffer, Shelby Seymour, Chase and Chance Seymour,
Brok and Kobi Seymour, Hunter and Emily Schmidt, Taylor and John
Peden and Hailey Loutzenhiser, as well as one great grandchild
Raydon Saffer. He is also survived by one brother Gary North and his
wife Mary Lou of Burlington, Colorado and two sisters Kitty Jacobs
of Wray, Colorado and Janice Elrick and her husband Don of Watkins,
Colorado. He is also
survived by one brother Gary North and his wife Mary Lou of
Burlington and two sisters Kitty Jacobs of Wray and Janice Elrick
and her husband Don of Watkins. Memorial services will be held on
Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Burlington Community and
Education Center with Pastor Bob Strauch officiating. Military
honors provided by the Flagler American Legion and the Burlington
VFW Post. A private family inurnment will be held at a later time.
2008 Beecher Island news Friday evening Violet Brown,
Richard and Vickie Brown, Tyson, Roxanne Siegrist,
Lee and Diana Bowker and Amanda, Aaron Barnes hosted supper for Mr.
and Mrs. James Bragg, Marcus and Roxanne Bragg, Curtis and Kaylee.
Carl Eugene Weber is buried in Vernon. Janice Rhea Weber Mayhall

(born ABT 1951). Gary Glen Pierce 1946-1990 is buried in Mesquite
38364160. His wife was Janice Pierce of Duncanville,
Texas. When L.H Pierce died in Texas in 1910, his
obituary mentioned a surviving daughter-in-law Janice Rhea Parish.
Phyllis Ann Frazier, 48, Boulder, Co, died Oct 10, 1995. She was
born May 28, 1947, at Wardell, Mo, to Carl & Marie (Young) Weber.
She married Jerry Frazier Sept 27, 1986, in Boulder.
Phyllis graduated from Northwest Classen, OKC, in 1965, and from
North Texas State Univ, Dallas, in 1974. She moved from Dallas to
Denver, Denver to Boulder in 1978.
Phyllis was a flight attendant with Braniff Airline 1967-89, then
worked as a laboratory aid at the City of Boulder Water Treatment
Plan.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Phyllis is survived by husband, Jerry; father, Carl Weber; mother
Marie Weber & sister Carlene Weber; and a niece. Preceded in death
