She was a great sufferer during her illness which covered a period of several months, a large portion of this time being confined to her bed. She bore her sickness with bountiful Christian fortitude, being patient and kind through it all.
But a few hours before she died she held a bouquet of flowers in her hand and talked of the beautiful ones she would have in the other world she would soon be called to. She asked her children to meet her in heaven, and said she wanted Jesus to take her home, and passed away as if going to sleep.
She died September 30 at 6 o'clock in the evening at Wray. Funeral services woro hold in tho Presbyterian church at Vernon, Tuesday, Oct. 2, conducted by her pastor, assisted by the Rev. DELIA'S THIRD HUSBAND

December 1, 1932 "John Mathew Kier was born in Fayette County, Illinois December 31, 1867. In 1888 he came to Colorado and except for nine years spent in California he has been a resident of Yuma county. On April 12, 1921 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Delia Custer. After a lingering illness of several months, he passed away at his home on the evening of November 25, 1932 at the age of 64 years, 10 months and 25 days. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Delia Kier, a sister, Mrs. C. M. Sweazy of Wray, three brothers: S. M. Kier of Vernon; J. B. Kier of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.; also John Kelly, a step grandson, and 14 nephews and nieces.

John Kier was a farmer and citizen, an unpretentious man. He fought the battles of life like a man, he took the winnings and losings as they came. He enjoyed the winnings and did not whine about the losings. He had a reputation for being honest. If he owed anything he worried and saved until he paid it. He had a loving and sympathizing heart, he spent his last hours in prayer and expressed to his sister an abiding faith in Christ.

January 7, 1954 "A pretty, informal wedding occurred Sunday afternoon, January 3, at the Presbyterian church in Benkelman when a double ring ceremony uniting Mrs. Marguerite I. Hawks and John S. Kelly was performed by the Rev. William Woodworth at two o'clock in the presence of their immediate families.
Serving as attendants of the bride and groom were Mrs. Norman Clegg of Haigler, the former Barbara Hawks and daughter of the bride, and John Greene of Wray. Mrs. Anna Clegg Miller played the traditional wedding music and accompanied Mrs. Otto D. Clegg who sang Always and Our Wedding Prayer.
Immediately following the ceremony those present were guests of Mrs. Norman Clegg at Carpenter's Cafe. Later in the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Kelly left on a wedding trip to Port Arthur, Tex. They will make their home in this community upon their return."

Rev. E. W. Elayer preached the funeral sermon in the Vernon Methodist church. The church was packed with old friends and neighbors to pay the last tribute of respect to the one whom they loved and trusted in life. There is a strong feeling that there is a type of manhood represented by John Kier that is passing off the stage of action. "

Isaac Sylvester Custer, 1857-1918 is buried in Vernon # 47631502.
"Son of Thomas Henry Custer and Sarah Jane (Hunter) Custer, child of six, four sons and two daughters. Isaac married twice, first to Dora Jane Kier on March 8, 1887 in Avena, County, Illinois. Three brothers: George W. Custer of Colorado, David Custer of Colorado and William Custer of Missouri. Twelve (12) grandchildren."

April 1944 "A birthday and Easter dinner was served in honor of Mrs. John Kier, Mrs. John Green and Clarence Custer at the home of Mrs. John Kier south of Vernon Sunday. A delicious dinner was served and greatly enjoyed by all present and many beautiful remembrances were received. Those attending were the hostess, Mrs. John Kier and two grandsons John Kelly and Charles Beach; Mr. and Mrs. George Custer of Breckenridge and son Floyd of Abarr; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tetters; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Custer and two granddaughters and Mrs. Howard Ray of Denver; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Custer and family of Eckley; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Anderson of Greeley; Mr. and Mrs. John Green, Mr. and Mrs. Arley Shively, Mrs. Katie Nevins and Ray Foltmer of Vernon."

May 1, 1952 "Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Lockwood Mortuary in Wray for Mrs. Delia C. Kier, a long-time resident of this community, who died Sunday morning in St. Anthony's hospital in Denver. Rev. Clark Bower of Denver a former pastor of the Christian church at Wray, will officiate at the services and burial will follow in Glendale cemetery at Vernon.
Mrs. Kier was born in Trading Post, Kan., on April 7, 1875 and was 77 years old at the time of her death. She was married to Albert Southwick in Missouri and three children were born to them who survive their mother. Mr. Southwick died in 1908.
In 1911 she moved with her family to the Vernon area and lived there until when she went to Denver to make her home with a daughter, Mrs. Lena Ray. She was married to John Kier after coming to this county and he died in November of 1932.
Mrs. Kier's death followed a short illness and she had been hospitalized a week before her passing. She was known as a good neignbor and had many friends in this community. She had been a member of the Christian church since her girlhood.
