Francis Asbury Greatsinger and Elsie M. (Hoffman) (Wasson) Greatsinger, Frank Wasson, Lansing

In 1850 Elmira, Chemung County, New York, Stephen Greatsinger is farming, 70 improved acres, 40 unimproved, with three horses, five milch cows, 24 sheep, and five swine. On the same agricultural census page, Wm Greatsinger has 500 acres.
He's 40, farming, with Emily 38, Nath 15, Washburn 13, Wm. P. 11, Jane 9, and ASBURY 1. Deborah is 74.
(Nathaniel M. Greatsinger probably married Caroline M., moved to Pennsylvania. In 1909 Bradford Pennsylvania they have Stephen B. an advertising setter for the Record. In 1914 Tarrytown, New York, Sarah E. Greatsinger, widow of Washburn, lives at Amos, N.T.)
In 1860 Elmira, New York, "Francies" A. Greatsinger is 11, with Stephen and Eliza, both 49, Stephen 7, and Deborah 89. Elizabeth might be a second wife, because the Greatsinger Cemetery has an Emma Greatsinger - wife of Stephen 1813-1859. Two children, Brinkerhoof and Phebe, are buried ther.

In 1865 Orange County, New York, Stephen is farming, 53, born in Dutchess County, New York. Elizabeth is 52, born in Orange County. Francis is 16, Stephen D. 6, both born in Chenung County. (Stephen Dayton Greatsinger was born Feb 14, 1859 in Chemung Counth and died Feb 26, 1927 in Newburgh, New York.) Deborah is 92, born in Dutchess County. She might be the wife of "Christian Greatsinger and Ann Parmer -1730?-1805? who had... 3. Stephen Greatsinger m. Deborah Litts."
The Eliza Greatsinger diying March 10, 1889, age 72, buried in the Greatsinger cemetery might be the mother of Francis - # 69317292. But she could the unmarried daughter of Reverend Christian Greatsinger, diying 1879 at age 87.
In 1880 Rochester, New York, F. A. Gretsinger is a janitor, 30, born in New York, parents in Canada. He's married to Maggie, 26, born in New York, parents in Scotland.
Francis A. Greatsinger married Elsie M. Wasson March 20, 1889, recorded in Denver (at that time the county seat.)
Francis was appointed the Lansing postmaster August 30, 1889, and was replaced by Asa Beam September 30, 1892 (Asa was shot and killed a year later.)

Francis and Elsie each cash-claimed quarters in 35, 3S 43W in 1890. 
Francis was a notary in 1892, 1896, 1903, and 1907.
In 1900 Lansing precinct, Francis, born July 1849 in New York, married eleven years to Elsie N. March 1838 New York, are farming. They have a Katie Thomas, 12, born in Nebraska, as a servant.
1900 "Frank Wasson of Lansing attended the basket supper Wednesday evening."
Margaret Musselman a widow, had brought her two sons to Yuma County, married Robert Dickson July 20, 1907, recorded in Denver.
Robert 1835-1908 is buried in Glendale #@ 58129582.

F.A. Greatsinger married Lizzie Dickson Feb 24, 1910, recorded in Yuma County.
In 1910 Lansing precinct, Francis is 62, Margaret L. 52, born in Ohio, his second marriage, her third.




Elsie 1836-1907 # 81621402 and Francis 1850-1911 # 81621454 are buried in Wray.

Frank J. Wassom married Viola Jones August 19, 1903, recorded in Yuma County.
1912 Lansing items "Frank Wasson's entertained Rev. Harrington at dinner, Sunday."

In 1920 Yuma County, Frank is 42, Mary 37, with Florence 13 and Evelyn 4.
In 1930 Yuma County, Frank J. Wasson is farming, 52, with Mary V. 47. They have Florence L. 23 and Evelyn 14.
Frank J. Wasson 62, born in Illinois, and Vera Viola 57, Nebraska, are in Yuma County in 1940, with Evelyn Ida 24, born in Colorado.
Florence Wasson divorced David Wasson in 1931 Denver.
Florence Wasson married Harold O. Bower Dec 26, 1935, recorded in Adams County.
Florence Wasson is divorced in 1940 Denver, 33, with David 9 and Philip 6. They were in Yuma County in 1935.
Frank J. Wassom of Arapahoe County was probated in 1957.

Bureau County Illinois History

Elsie Huffman married Jacob Wasson, widower, 1857 in Bureau County, Illinois, and they had Josephine 1858, George 1859, Lincoln 1861, Thomas 1863, Fannie E. 1865, and Frank J. 1867.

In 1860 Bureau County, Illinois, Jacob Wasson is 50, Elsey 23, Mary 15, William 10, James W. 7, Joseph 2, and newborn George.
In 1870 Bureau County, Illinois, Jacob Wasson is 60, born in Tennessee, Elsie 33, New York. Wesley 17, Josephine 12, George 9, and Lincoln 8, were all born in Illinois.
In 1880 Bureau County, Elsie is widowed, with Geo. W. 20, Abram L. 18, Frank J. 2, Fannie 10, and George W. 20. GEORGE
George W. Wassom, son of Jacob Wassom and Elise Hoffman, married Louisa Haas, daughter of Christopher Haas and Elis Wagner, in Peru, La Salle County, Illinois, on January 8, 18885.

In 1900 George W. Wassom, born Oct 1860 in Illinois, is married 15 years to Louisa S. 38. They have Jennie A. 15.
George is in Minnesota in 1905, 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940.
In 1910 Wilkin County, Minnesota, Jennie 24 and William Stuart 31 are with George and Louise. George and William are farmers.
In 1930 Wilkin County, Geo is 60, born in New York ?, Louise 54, Illnois, with widowed daughter Jennie Stewart, 34.
In 1940 Fergus Falls, Minnesota, George is 80, Louise 72, and Jennie is married to Lars O. Larson, both 54. Jennie was honored in November 1965 Fergus Falls on her 80th birthday.

JOSEPHINE
George W. Snyder, one of the leading and influential ranchers of Keith county, Nebraska, was born in Bureau county, Illinois, March 18, 1856, of German descent, his father, Henry Snyder, and his mother, Celia Doll, both being born in Germany, and farmers by occupation. He was reared on the farm in Illinois, where he was born, assisting his father with the farm work and receiving a good common school education. He remained on the farm until about 1878, when he started out to find employment for himself. Later in the year 1878 Mr. Snyder was married to Josephine Wasson, also a native of Bureau county, Illinois, being the daughter of Jacob and Elsa (Hoffman) Wasson, successful and influential farmers of that county.
Josephine 1858-1939 is buried in Ogallala, # 67013437. So is George # 67013344.
In 1899 Wray "Misses Nora Kelly and Nellie Snyder, of Lansing, were in town Saturday."
1900 Wray "Mr. Wassam arrived from Illinois last Friday for a visit with relatives in the Lansing-Logan neighborhood. He was met here by his niece, Miss Nellie Snyder."
1905 "Miss Nellie Snyder arrived from Akron, Colorado to visit a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Greatsinger."

In 1906 Nellie Snyder was teaching in Yuma. Wray "F.A. Greatsinger and niece, Miss Nellie Snyder, of Armel, were visitors in this city last Sunday."

Nellie E. and J. S. Kroh, who had been publishing the Ogallala Tribune since July, 1916, purchased the News from Miller and consolidated the two papers under the old established name, Keith County News. For more than twenty years the Krohs were sole owners but on March 1, 1939, they sold a half interest in the business to Harold A. Smith.
