In 1880 Smith County, Kansas, Daniel Kindred is farming, 45, Marian 39, Nancy 18, Emeline 15, James 15, Newton 11, Christian 9, Daniel 7, Florence 6 (these all born in Indiana), Andrew 4, Marian M. 3, and Hattie eight months were born in Kansas.
In 1900 Smith County, Daniel and Mary have Andy 24, May 22, Rebecca A., 18, and WEsley W. 16.

In 1880 Taylor County, Iowa, James and Cynthia McCracken, both 36, have Martha 14, Charles 11, Lewis 7, and Joseph 3. Stepson Samuel Reynolds, 16, born in Illinois, father born in Pennsylvania.
Thomas 31 and Emiline Reynolds 25 had been in Buchanan County, Missouri, in 1860, with Milton 9, Thos 7, John 6, Susan 4, and William 1.
In 1870 Andrew County, Missouri, Emeline is now married to Peter D. Jackson with a bunch of Reynolds kids.


February 9, 1928 - Lincoln Nebraska

Joe McCracken,eighty-four, civil war veteran and pioneer, died at his home here late Tuesday night following an illness of several weeks. Mr. McCracken was born in Van Buren county, Iowa. Shortly after the Civil war, in which he served as a Private, he homesteaded in Smith county Kansas,,,, here, where he lived until,,, ago when he moved to Red Cloud to make his home. He is survived by his wife, three sons; Charles, Lewis and Joseph of Lebanon, Kansas, and one daughter, Mrs. Martha Krout of Inavale. Funeral services will be held Friday and interment will be in the Mt. Hope cemetery.


In 1900 Smith County, Kansas, C.E McCracken born February 1870, married five years to L.F. February 1874 Indiana, have Lilla May Dec 1897, and Hazel Effa May 1899, both born in Kansas.

In 1910 Yuma County, Charles E. McCracken is 41, married 14 years to Florence 36, Indiana. She's had five kids, four liging. Nellie 13, Hazel 11, Clyde 8, and Glen 1 were born in Kansas.
March 17, 1911 "John Brown and Lester Kraut spent a very enjoyable day Sunday at the latter's uncle Chas. McCracken "

July 14, 1911 "Chas. McCracken and wife entertained a number of friends July 4 th. Those present were, E. L. Krout and wife, Will Wood and wife, Mrs. Davis and children, Mr. arid Mrs. Jessup, Mr. and Mrs. Gretchel and children, John Brown and family and Wiley Allen. All report a most enjoyable day."

February 9, 1912 "Chas. McCracken and wife, of south of Yuma, visited at the home of their nephew, Lester Krout, one day last week."

December 27, 1912 "On last Friday occurred the death of Mrs. Charles McCracken, in the south part of tho county, after an illness of but a few days. The funeral was held from tho M. E. church in Yuma on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Phillips, and the remains interred in tho Yuma cemetery, Tho heartfelt sympathies of tho entire community are extended to tho baroavod husband."

January 3, 1913 "Dan Kindred and son, James, were called to Yuma, Colorado, Sunday by a message announcing the death of Mrs, Charlie McCracken, who is a daughter of Mr. Kindred. Mrs. McCracken was well known horo ns they mndo this their homo for several years before moving to Yuma county a short time ago. There were thirteen children in the Kindred family and this is the first death. Mrs. McCracken was buried at Yuma Monday. —Smith County, Kansas, Pioneer. "

August 1914 " Charles McCracken, who had been away harvesting, arrived home last week. "
Charles proved up two quarters in 20 and 21, 1S 47W in 1916.

June 29, 1916 "Marriage licenses were issued to C. E. McCracken and Miss Helen Watson and Mr. McCracken s daughter, Miss Hazel, to C. E. Fry, Saturday, June 24. All the parties were from Yuma. "

September 7, 1917 "C.E. McCracken, of south of Yuma, lost his barn and contnts by fire Tuesday, to the value of aout $300.

In 1920 Yuma County, Charles 51 and Helen 21 have Glenn 11, Paul 2, and Delmar 1.

January 24, 1924

In 1930 Charles and Helen have Paul L. 12, Delmer O. 11, Charlie M. 10, Anna B. 8, and Berle L. 2.

November 5, 1931 "Mrs. J. W. McCracken, who ahd been visitin her son, C.E. McCracken, and family for about a week, left on the afternono train Friday, bound for her home at Red Cloud, Nebraska. The guest had been visiting in California for sveral weeks and stopped off at Yuma while on her hoeward journey."

February 1, 1940

In 1940 they're in Yuma, on South Albany, Charles E. 71, Fay E. H. 41, Berl 12, and Robert 3.

December 10, 1942, Second Lieutenant D.I. McCracken was transfered from Lincoln, Nebraska to the adjutant general's school at Fort Washington, Maryland. He is 25 years old.
September 1943 Aviation Cadet Charlie McCracken was classified for pilot trainng at Randolph Field, Texs. He entered the air forces last February.
October 1943 Lieutenant D. L. McCracken was promoted to Captain.


Charles is buried in Yuma #68376058.
June 3, 1954


July 22, 1954 "Sgt. and Mrs. Burl McCracken arrived from Fort Holabird, Baltimore to visit his mother. They left this morning for Los Angeles, California where he is to be stationed. Sgt. McCracken has been in the army for more than eight years."

Martha Jane (McCracken) Krout 1865-1947 is buried in Smith County, Kansas, # 53808255, with ASndrew Jackson Krout 1863-1920.

Ellsworth L. Krout proved up 320 acres in 33, 1N 46W (southwest of Eckley about ten miles, in 1913.

Joseph L. Krout proved up two quarters in 7, 1S 47W and 12, 1S 48W, in 1916. - this was about two miles from Charles McCracken's claim.

February 23, 1917
September 1927

November 23, 1917 "Pearl Cooper, who had been visiting with his sister, Mrs. J.L. Krout, south of Yumafor a few days, returned to his home at Red Cloud, Nebraska the latter part of last week."

September 1927 "Mrs. Jack Stallsworth and children, who had been visiting with the lady's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Krout of southesast of Yuma, returned to her home at Brush Tuesday."

1927 "J.L. Krout and family moved to Inavale, Nebraska, having sold the farm they homestaded in 1910 to Edward Ambrose.

Ellsworth L. Krout 1884-1965 is buried in Longmont, # 60871879, with Winifred 1887-1978.
