Martin Alexander and Ethel Lavina Higdon, Fox
| Pius Higdon, deceased, a well known farmer of Clay Township and a
veteran of the Civil War, was born in Hardin County, Kentucky, July 23,
1845, the son of John and Luvina (Carrico) Higdon. John Higdon was born in the East in May, 1811 and went to Kentucky with his parents. He married Luvina Carrico who was born in Marion County, Kentucky and six children were born to their union. John Higdon died in Hardin County, Kentucky and his widow died many years later in Harrison County. Pius Higdon was reared in Washington County, Kentucky. His mother was a widow without much money so he started, early in his life, to earn his own way. When he was only seventeen he enlisted for service in the Civil War and served in Company G, 10th Kentucky Infantry, under Col. John Harland. He remained in service for three years, three months and twenty days. He participated in the battles of Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Sherman's March to the Sea and Kenesaw Mountain. After he was discharged in December, 1864, he returned to Washington County, Kentucky, but left there shortly afterwards because of the guerrillas and went to Davis County, Indiana, where he operated a farm for six years. In 1870 he came with his family to Harrison County and settled in Clay Township where he spent the remainder of his life. Pius Higdon was married twice. His first marriage was in Indiana to Catherine Shieliff, who was born in Indiana, June 2, 1848 and died in Harrison County, April 15, 1881. To this union seven children were born: Mary L., deceased; Annie C, deceased, was Mrs. Patterson; John J., living at Conception Junction, Missouri; James J., of Coffeyville, Kansas;vCharles W., living at Indianola, Iowa; Robert E., living at home; and Martin A., a resident of Vernon, Colorado. Mr. Higdon's second marriage was to Mary E. Hill, born in Washington County, Kentucky. This marriage occurred December 27, 1882, and to this union six children were born : Clement A., who was drowned in Grand River, June 13, 1897 ; Catherine Agnes, married to Leonard LaFollette and living in Clay Township ; Richard L., at home with his mother; Louis 0., living in Clay Township; Otho, of Mercer County ; and Laura, married to Vincent WiUis and living in Clay Township. Pius Higdon died January 3, 1895. His widow lives in Clay Township on the old home farm of 250 acres which she owns. Mr. Higdon was a staunch Democrat and was a member of the Catholic Church with which church all of his family are identified. He served as township clerk for seven years and was the township assessor. In all the phases of his life, as a business man, as a citizen, and in his capacity as a township officer, Mr. Higdon was industrious, earnest and sincere. He merited the high regard in which he was held by the community. |

Ruby Higdon -1913 -1913 is buried in Glendale, Vernon.
Martin proved up 320 acres in 10 and 11, 3S 46W in 1914.
He registered in Yuma County, Happyville address, born April 15, 1880, nearest relative was wife Ethel Lavina Higdon.
When he registered for WWII in Oregon, he said he was born in Harrison, Missouri, and his relative was Lloyd Higdon of Independence, Oregon.
In 1920 they're farming in Wayne County, Missouri, with Loyd 16, Arthur 14, Coyl 12, Vera 5, Anna 2, and Archie - three months. Vera and Anna were born in Colorado, the boys all in Missouri.
In 1930 Martin and Ethel are farming in Yuma County, with seven kids. Ethel's parents Nicholas and Margaret Kindred are with them, too.
In 1940 they're in Yamhill County, Oregon, farming, with only Archie with them. They said they were in Yuma County in 1935.
Martin - April 17, 1880 - January 17, 1944 and Ethel 1886-1964 are buried in Friends Cemetery, Yamhill County, Oregon
Anna Laura married Frank Davisson in Wray December 7, 1935, and died July 2000, with a residence of Springfield, Oregon. ( the FindAGrave 9686421 says she was born in North Dakota)
Lloyd P. Higdon, 28 married Vera Lee Winfrey, 18, in Burlington on June 20, 1931.
Vera Violet Higdon married James Franklin Adamson in Burlington June 17, 1935.
In 1940 Earl M. 27 and Reva V. 24, born in Colorado, Bradley are in Lincoln County, Oregon, with James , 3, born in Oregon.

| James Coyle Higdon was born January 12, 1909 in Pleasanton, Iowa.
(Parents were Martin Alexander Higdon and Ethel L. Kindred)He married
Hazel May Davisson on December 18 1935 in Burlington, Colorado. to them
four children were born: Erma Jane (Schneider) Higdon born November 16,
1936. James Clifford Higdon born December 29, 1939. Robert Eugene
Higdon born June 18, 1941. and Margaret Elaine (Sapp) Higdon born August
24, 1946. As a young man he enjoyed baseball playing on Farm team in
Colorado. The St. Louis Cardinals attempted to draft him to their Major
league team on two occasions however he declined as to honor his Mothers wishes. His nick name on the team was the Flyer, he played short
stop. In his later years he enjoyed watching and listening to baseball,
his favorite team was the Los Angeles Dodgers. Another of the stories
told to me by my Grandfather was his cross country adventures as a young
man on his Harley Davisson Motorcycle with a sidecar. As a young man
Coyle as he was called worked as a Farmer, later he moved from Colorado
with his family to Oregon where he worked in the lumber industry driving
Log Truck, and doing Mill work. Coyle loved animals ever since being a
farmer in Colorado, after his retirement he raised and cared for
Rabbits. He also enjoyed Hunting, and fishing. He also took up latch
hook and enjoyed making rugs. He was also a very good automobile
mechanic. Almost yearly Coyle would take his wife back to Colorado to
the Davisson homestead where he and her would visit family and friends.
Coyle was a very giving man, and would help anyone in need, never
expecting anything in return. He loved his family and was remembered for
his caring, and willingness to lend a helping hand. James Coyle Higdon
passed away April 28, 1982. (recorded by grandson Stephen Michael Schneider In 1940 Coyle and Hazel are in Idalia precinct, with Erma Jane 3 and newborn James Clifford Higdon. They are buried on the Davisson farm, Yuma County. |
John L. Higdon 21 married Jessie L. Hayes 15 in Akron on May 27, 1887.
