Charles and Eva (Hatfield) Carpenter , Mildred




Eva (1868-1954) died in McCook, per one tree, Charles 1860-1912? in Yuma County.

Charles Carpenter was in Tama County, Iowa in 1870, with Herbert 54 and Mary A. 45. Martha E. is 12, Charles D. 8 - both born in Illinois, and Edward 1, born in Iowa

Hurlburt Carpenter 1816-1897 is buried in Furnas County, Nebraska # 52259722, with Mary Ann (Woodruff) Carpenter 1824-1909 # 52259946.

In 1880 Page County, Iowa, Hurlburt is 63, Mary Ann 47, Charles 18, and Edward 12.
Parkus Carpenter 26 is a son, listed after Edward. But if the death certificate of Park Carpenter in 1916 San Antonio is right, he was the son of Andrew and Annie L. Carpenter of Ohio, born March 14, 1853 , dying August 2, 1916. The death certificate says buried in Temple, but # 11637728 havs him buried in McLennan County # 11637728, born March 14, 1858.

Edward M. Carpenter married Alice Land on Sept 30, 1889 in Stockville, Nebraska, and died in Stamos;ais County, California July 30, 1957, buried in Mendocino 1866-1957 # 103508337.


Charles D. Carpenter married Eva Laura May Hatfield on May 17, 1882 in Clarinda, Iowa.

In 1885 Gosper County, Nebraska, Charles is 22, Eva 17, Willy 2, and Lotta six months.

In 1900 Furnas County, Nebraska, Charles born Sept 1860 in Ohio, is married 18 years to Eva, born May 1868 in Iowa. Willie Feb 1883 in Iowa, Lettie Dec 1885 in Nebraska, Eddie Oct 1887 inNebraska, Roy Mar 1890 in Nebraska, Frank July 1894 Nebraska, Oliver March 1895 Nebraska, Andrew Feb 1897 Nebraska, and Mabel May 1899 Nebraska.

May 15, 1913 "Word was received in Wray last Saturday of the death of Charles Carpenter at his home near Mildred, Colorado. Mr. Carpenter was taken ill with typhoid fever about two weeks prior to his death, and later pneumonia developed and his constitution was not strong enough to battle with the combined diseases. The funeral services were held at the district school house and interment was made at the Glendale cemetery. (actually buried in Mildred 1861-1912 # 14541919)
Mr. Carpenter came to Yuma county a little over two years ago and filed on a homestead near Mildred, where he made his home until his death."

In 1928 the Nebraska barber licensing mentions Eva Carpenter of McCook.

In 1930 McCook, William H. Mitchell is 28, Viola 26, Phyllis 5, Wayne E. 3, and Donald D. 2, all born in Kansas. Evza M. Carpenter is widowed, 62, born in Illinois.
This is a different Eva Carpenter - she was in Norton County Kansas in 1900, with husband Benjamin.

WILLIAM

William was in Yuma County in 1913 - arrested along with brother-in-law...
Willie C. Carpenter, 22, son of Charles Carpenter and Eva Hatfield, married Martha Schleicher, 18, daughter of Ed Schlichter on July 30, 1904 in Holbrook, Nebraska. Both were residents of Arapaho, Nebraska.

One tree said he died in 1914

EDWARD

Edward is widowed in 1940 Tulsa Oklahoma, a painter, age 55, born in Nebraska.
One tree said he was in Culberson Nebraska in 1942, and died January 9, 1952.

HARRY
Harry Leroy (Roy) Carpenter is in Kearney, Nebraska in 1920, 33, with Ethel 26, Esther M. 6, Arline 5, Doris 3, and Junior L. 1, all born in Nebraska.


Ethel is widowed in 1930 Gering, Nebraska, 36, with Vera 19, Esther 17, Arline 15, Dorrine 13, Junior 11, Bernice and Jack both 9, Dolly 6, Helen 3, and Ruby 1, all born in Nebraska.
BUT in the Scotts Bluff census, Leroy is 41, Ethel 35, Arline 15, Dorine 13, Junior 11, Bernice 9, Jack 7, Dollie 6, Helen 3, and Ruby eleven months.

Ethel is in Torrington, Wyoming in 1940, 45, with Jack 17, Dolly 16, Helen 13, Ruby 11, Bonnie 8, and Phil 5. Daughter Bernice Johnson is 19, widowed.

Dolly D. Bachik is buried in Pueblo, Colorado 1923-1994 # 65745253.




Bonnie Lou Merrill, 78, a 48-year resident of Douglas died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County following a period of declining health.
Bonnie was born on April 17, 1932, in Scottsbluff, Neb., the daughter of Roy and Ethel Carpenter. She was raised in Nebraska and Wyoming, moving to Douglas in 1962 with her husband, Orris LaVern "Vern" Merrill, Jr., whom she married on may 24, 1950 in Wheatland. To their union a daughter and a son were born. They were married for 46 years until Vern's death in July 1996.
Bonnie loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren playing cards and board games. She was a very funny woman, and always considered the life of the party, but was completely unable to tell jokes without botching the punch line. She loved to garden and to cook, and she spent many years cooking for her ranch hands as well as the hands from the surrounding ranches. She also loved to spend time with her dogs, Pee Wee and Paco, and asked about them often after moving to the care center approximately one year ago.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a great-grandson who passed away in infancy.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Ron) McNare of Douglas; son, Kevin (Tacie) Merrill of Cody; grandchildren, Chad (Marcie) McNare, Bridget (Shane) Stinson, Bill (CJ) Merrill, Gyna (Kevin) Grogan, and Todd (Nicole) Merrill; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Puzo; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Ruby is buried in Sonora, California # 72002028
"Longtime Twain Harte resident Ruby Jean (Carpenter) Mansur died Nov. 21 at a Sonora hospital. She was 78.
Mrs. Mansur was born in Scottsbluff, Neb., the 11th of 13 children.
She met her husband while he was in the U.S. Army stationed in Nebraska.
In 1946 she moved to California, first living in the Reedley-Fresno area. In 1951, they moved to Palo Alto. They lived there until 1979 when they retired to Twain Harte, where they had owned a vacation cabin for many years prior.
Her role as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was very important to her. She was a Camp Fire leader, room mother, Cub Scout den mother and taught religious education classes in Palo Alto. She was a member of Third Order of St. Francis of Assissi and, in Twain Harte, she was a member of All Saints Catholic Church. She was also a member of Professional Business Women's Association in Tuolumne County.
After her children had grown, Mrs. Mansur was a real estate broker for 39 years. She and her husband owned and operated H & R Mansur Properties in Sonora. She loved to read and tell stories of her life. Her family said she was the "true matriarch" of the family.
Mrs. Mansur is survived by her son and his wife, Jack and Gail Mansur of Rogue River, Ore.; daughters Pamela Ledwick of Jamestown and Christina Douglas of Sonora; grandchildren and their spouses Steven and Kim Ledwick of Twain Harte, Kevin and Donna Ledwick of Sonora, David and Gina Mansur of San Jose, Paul and Harmina Mansur of San Jose, Daniel Mansur of San Jose, Mark and Andrea Mansur of Seattle, Wash., and Sarah Andrade of Sonora; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Ward Ledwick of Washington, Kayla, Joseph and Megan Ledwick of Twain Harte, Kylie and Joshua Mansur of San Jose, Daniel Jr. and Thomas Mansur of San Jose and Jaylin, Alex and Josiah Andrade of Sonora; sisters Helen Puzo of Texas and Bonnie Merrill of Wyoming; sisters-in-law Margie Mansur of Sacramento and Marie Mansur of San Jose; her caregiver and good friend, Dianne Leal of Twain Harte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harry Mansur, in 1999; an infant son, Harry; her parents, LeRoy and Ethel Carpenter; 10 brothers and sisters; three brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law."

One tree said John had changed his name to Frank W. Terrell, 1894-1992 buried in Oregon, wtih Lillian V. 1895-1979.

ANDREW

The tree said he changed his name to Andrew Steele, and died February 14, 1977 in Hebron, Nebraska.

Emil Brunswick, 22, son of C. Brunswick and Lizzie Holtz, and Lettie, 18, daughter of C.D. Carpenter and Eva Laura May Hatfield, married in Furnas County, Nebraska April 23, 1901, both residing at Arapahoe, Nebraska.
In 1920 Yuma County, "Amel Brunswich" is 44, Lettie 35, Francis 13, Lewis 16, Merna 10, - all born in Nebraska. Esther 5 and Fay seven months were born in Colorado. Lettie's brother Franklin Carpenter, 26 is with them.

Franklin Otto Carpenter, born July 22, 1892 at Cambridge, Nebraska, registered for WWI in Bannock County, Idaho. He said he was supporting his mother.


F.O. Carpenter proved up 240 acres in sections 24 and 25, 3S 46W in 1922.

In 1930 Haigler Nebraska, Frank is a barber, 37, with Mina 26 born in Missouri. Kenneth 3 and Virginia 1 were born in Nebraska.
Mina was in Harrison County, Missouri in 1910, age 8, with James H. and Edith Baker, both 37.
Elsie is 15, Charley 13, and Sylva 10.

Frank is a barber in 1940 Haigler, with Mina L. 37 born in Missouri. Kenneth is 13, Virginia 11, Clara 7, and Rodney 1, all kids born in Nebraska.
Franklin O. Carpenter was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery February 1, 1986, block 9, row 11, lot 40, space 6.

Mina, born May 28, 1902 at Harrison County, Missouri, died about 1978 in McCook, per one tree, BUT SSDI has her dying April 1984, and cemetery records have:
Mina L. Carpenter was buried April 17, 1984, in block 9, row 1, lot 40, space 5.

One tree said Kenneth Otto Carpenter was born November 26, 1926, and died around 1992 in Boulder.
"William Henry Carstens was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 19, 1928, to Fredrick Karl Carstens and Alma Sophia Koepke. In 1932, the family moved to Fremont, Nebraska to be raise with two sisters. The oldest being Adel Tabor who is presently living in Yuma, Arizona and his younger sister, Marleine Phillips who lives in Mapleton, Iowa. He graduated in 1947 from Fremont High School, where he was on the school basketball team.
Upon leaving high school, he went into the construction work building grain elevators throughout southern Nebraska.
In 1948, while working in McCook, he met Clara Belle Carpenter and they got married on July 30, 1950. They had three sons: Fred William Carstens, Daniel Lynn Carstens and Christopher Allen Carstens. In 1958, the family moved to Bayard, Nebraska, where William Carstens, who went by his nickname "Bill," became a district sales manager for the Mormon Feed Company. In 1959, the Carstens family moved back to McCook and Bill went to work for the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Later on, he managed the American Legion Club and then the VFW Club and was the bar tender of both organizations. In 1969, he started Red Willow Painting Service and remained in this industry until 1992 when he retired. He then traveled and spent time with his sons and grandchildren, doing his favorite thing, which was watching football games."
