Daveda Eileen Neuschwanger [Daveda Eileen Kerr] [Daveda Kerr] Birth Date: 29 Nov 1929 Birth Place: Boulder, Colorado Death Date: Sep 1981

William Wallace Kerr died at the age of 86 from Non-Hodgkins lymphoma and Parkinson's Disease on October 10, 2015 in Knoxville. Bill was born in Grand Junction, Colorado in 1929. At almost 12 pounds, he was the largest baby to be born in Saint Mary's Hospital at that time. He completed high school in Grand Junction with a scholarship to attend Colorado School of Mines. He received the degree of Geophysical Engineer in 1951. Bill was president of the independent students, served on the Student Council and belonged to the following honorary and professional organizations at Mines: Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Gamma Epsilon, and Blue Key. He began his 31 years of employment with Chevron companies and his first marriage to Daveda Neuschwanger, a week after graduation. His employment was interrupted by two years' service as a reserve officer in the U.S. Army, Aviation Engineers with the Air Force (SCARWAF). He fought the Korean War in Texas, separating as a First Lieutenant.zz
Bill and Daveda had two girls (Lori and Shari) and a boy (Ron) born to them while moving over 15 times in the ensuing five years. The children were born in three different states!
Bill was named Division Geophysicist in 1965 and Chief Geophysicist in New Orleans in 1978. Bill lost his Daveda in 1981 and his career with Chevron ended in 1982 when he elected early retirement and joined his son in Tennessee.
The next 7 years were spent building a solar house on a hillside. As this project neared completion, a new love entered his life. Her name is Carol Willis, they met on a hike in 1988 and married in November 1989. Bill was president of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club for a couple of years so he and Carol did a lot of hiking. They enjoyed traveling and hiked across Switzerland and England and around Scotland, as well as numerous trips in the U.S. and Canada. Staying busy and making a contribution occupied Bill's time for the next 11 years. He was active as chair of the SMHC AT Maintenance Committee. They maintain 100 miles of the Appalachian Trail, 70 miles in the Smokies and 30 miles in the National Forest south of the park. Physical limitations resulted in giving up long hikes and trail maintenance, but his interest in the Appalachian Trail and the Smoky Mountains never wavered.

Lorraine Kay 'Lori' Kerr, died peacefully on March 3, 2010 of complications from scleroderma. Her family and friends were with her when she died.
Lori was born April 30, 1952 in Mineral Wells, Texas, but spent most of her childhood in Jackson, MS. Lori lived in Louisiana for a number of years, and moved to Durham in 1990. She taught sewing classes in Raleigh and Chapel Hill, and was a member of Womancraft, the Chapel Hill-based arts cooperative, until her health began to deteriorate. She was also a member of the Durham Farmers Market.
Lori was preceded in death by her mother, Daveda N. Kerr.

A service honoring her life will be held Saturday, March 20th, at 3:00 p.m. adjacent to her studio at Wings Community Arts Center, located at Northgate Presbyterian Church, 2504 N. Roxboro St., in Durham.
Lori was an amazingly gifted and creative woman whose artistic vision allowed her to see the world in all its many glories. She was at home in many media, but her true genius was with fabric.
