September 1905 "Seaborn Elliott, a
resident of Yuma county from 1886 to
1888, but at present living at Aurora,
Neb., visited with E.B. Remington Sunday
night between trains. These two
gentlemen were comrades in Co. G, 8th
Missouri cavalry during the civil war."
In 1910 he was living only a mile away from Charles'
quarter, living with his son-in-law Gerry Brower and wife Mary L. Charles
F. Brower is 17. Seborn then homesteaded two quarters about five miles
southeast of the Browers, proving up in 1916.

Yuma Pioneer - November 15, 1928 " Mrs. Gerry Brower returned Thursday morning from Denver to which place she was called by the fatal illness of her father Seborn Elliott who died Tuesday evening. He was laid at rest in the cemetery at Haxtun Friday November 9 with military honors. Mr. Elliott was at one time a resident of Pleasant Valley and numbered his friends by his acquaintances."

October 1907 "Charlie Elliott has returned to Raiciena, Nebr. where he will
pick up his belongings and return to Eckly (sic) where he has taken a
homestead."
The 1910 census of Magee, Yuma County has Charles W, and Lucy A., both
38, born Missouri, with Plisea E., 2, daughter, and Francis C., stepson, 15,
born Missouri. They've been married six years.
Probably the same Charles W. Elliott in Buffalo County, Nebraska in 1900
(adjacent to Kearney County where Albert Monk and Cynthia Woodward were growing
up). Charles is 27, living with parents Seborfn and Elizabeth Elliott.
Seborn and Charles are both laborers.
In the Fort Scott, Kansas 1902 directory are Charles W. Elliott, a farmer,
and Seborn B. Elliott and Elizabeth Elliott, farming.
Charles W. Elliott proved up a cash claim in 1913 for a quarter in 4 N 46 W
Charles William Elliott registered for the draft in Wauneta, Nebraska (about
thirty miles east of his homestead. He said he was born February 19, 1873,
and was married to Lucy A. Elliott of Wauneta.
The family was in the same area in the 1920 census, with Charles W.,
46, Lucy A., 47, both born Missouri, and 11-year-old daughter Placy, born
Colorado.

Milvin L. Kissinger, born Washington. Here it's Alice L., so Lucy

busy, because in 1910 he'd made a cash claim for a quarter of land adjoining

Mae Adelane Elliott was born 26 Aug 1907 in Wages, CO, and died 10
Jun 1979 in Denver, CO.
Inez Eisenhour, 86, of Springfield, died October 7 at Doctors Hospital. Inez
was born December 24, 1918, in Eckley, CO. She was the youngest of six children
of Henry and Geneva Elliott. Inez and Ralph Eisenhour were married December 22,
1951, and enjoyed 53 years together. Ralph preceded her in death in April of
this year. She is survived by one sister, LaVaugh, nieces and nephews, and other
family and friends that loved her. Inez was a homemaker and attended Parkcrest
Assembly of God Church for many years. Services will be held October 11 in
Greenlawn South Funeral Home. Burial will be in the New Veterans Cemetery.

in Yuma County. He's Henry Ornery Elliott, born March 4, 1880. He's
married to Christa Elliott, and is a real estate agent.
Here's Henry in the new building of the Boggs Lumber Company of Eckley .
H.O. Elliott in 1919 was one of five directors of the incorporation of the
Eckley Oil and Land Company.
In 1920 Henry is 40, in Eckley, still in real estate, married to 30-year-old
Geneva. They have Mae, 13, Mildred, 10, Harold 4, Lavaughn, 5, Sheila
(or Thelma) 2,
Meg 1, and Seborn, widowed, 75, with Henry's brother Marvin 33. a day laborer
n 1930 "Neva" Elliott, 39, is in Denver, working in a beauty shop. She
said she's married. With her is Harold, 19, an orderly in a
hospital., LaVaughn 14, Sheila (or Thelma) 13, and Meg 2.

Edward Larson (born November 6, 1914), and having children Kermit Edward Larson
4/10/1939-5/9/1986 and Gary Clifford Larson. April 6, 1948.
"J LaVaughn" and Kermit Sr., a retired Army major, are buried in Phoenix
National Cemetery.
MARVIN
Marvin registered for the WWI draft in neighboring Phillips County. He
said he was born March 12, 1887 in Stoutland Missouri, and was a section foreman
for the C B & Q Railroad
Marvin is back in Phillips County in 1930, still a foreman for the
railroad. He's 33, married to Vesta, 29, born in Iowa. They have
Barbara A, 4, born in Colorado One Ancestry tree said Marvin
Francis Elliott married "Eula Vesta Carter, born in Sharbrough, Iowa"
In 1940 they're in Guernsey, Wyoming, where Marvin - and every male on the
census page - is working for the railroad.
Vesta died April 15, 1974, and is also buried in the Wheatland Cemetery.

recent immigrants in the United States.
That's also why his daughter called him "Mr. Dictionary."
Symphony and ballet tickets represented the world of hope and
imagination. He gave away tickets, too, to people who needed
cheering.
"He was an electrical engineer at Paccar for 28 years, but
that was only one part of him," said Karen Myhre Bergeron of
Duvall, noting that her father became excited about classical
music as a child on his family's homestead near Great Falls,
Mont.
"The family had a record by (opera star Enrico) Caruso, and
he played that over and over. It planted a seed."
Mr. Myhre died Wednesday (May 12) of a heart attack. He was
85.

MARY
There's a Gerry BrowN, 24 in 1885 Pawnee County Nebraska. He's with his
brother Joseph, 34, father Abraham, 70 and mother Margat, 70. In 1880
Gerry, Abraham, and Barbara Brower - same ages i- wee in Humboldt, Richardson
County, Nebraska with Gerry's sister ???? Petty (Chrissa in the 1900 Burt
County census).
In September 1902 "Gerry Brower and family, who left here about seven years
ago, are on the road to Yuma again. So says his brother, our county
commissioner, Joseph Brower."
The Wray Gazette in 1904 said
"After a Prosperous Career Joseph Brower Wants to Retire and Take Life

One of the many money making ranches of the county is that owned by
Joseph Brower, twenty miles northeast of Yuma.
Mr. Brower is a native of Indiana, where he was born fifty-three years
ago. After he grew to manhood he farmed in the Hoosier State, Iowa and Nebraska,
but he came to Colorado in May, 1887, and settled on a government claim which is
now a part of his ranch. He commenced general farming and prosperity smiled upon
him. His crops were abundant, his yield of wheat going as high as thirty bushels
an acre, oats forty bushels, and he has harvested fifty bushels of corn per
acre, with other crops equally good in proportion. He generally grows a large
quantity of cane and millet for winter feed for his stock.
Mr. Brower owns 320 acres on which his home is situated, and 100 acres
only twelve miles from Yuma station. He has a comfortable residence, good barns,
sheds, etc., and his farm is generously supplied with the necessary agricultural
implements, including a first-class binder. His ranch is amply protected with
seven miles of good wire fence, and adjacent to it is a vast area of free range
on which buffalo and other native grades grow luxuriously. He owns two
inexhaustible wells of pure water, with pumps operated by windmills and
necessary drinking tanks for stock. The land is a level prairie and the soil is
very productive.
In addition to general farming, Mr. Bower is in the cattle business. He
owns four horses and 100 cattle, the stock being well bred and desirable.
Mr. Brower has been county commissioner for six years, his last term
having expired about one year ago. He made an enviable record as a county
officer. He has been a school director of his district almost continuously since
he came to the county.
In February, 1894, Mr. Brower married Miss Adelia Moore, an estimable
Yuma county lady, and the couple are highly esteemed by all who know them.
Wants to Sell Ranch
Mr. Brower has made money on his Yuma county ranch and he wants to
retire from the cares, anxieties and hard work of farm life. For that reason, he
offers his entire ranch, including his horses, cattle, agricultural implements
and every other farm adjunct for only $6,000. This offers a special opportunity
to secure a profitable ranch, well stocked, at a very reasonable figure. Mr.
Brower's address is Yuma, Colo.

A PIONEER PASSES AWAY
It is with profound regret that the people of the county were notified of the
death of Abraham Brower, father of County Commissioner Brower, on Tuesday last.
He was an old man, having reached the annual mark of 85 years. For many
years he has been a resident of Yuma county, and a man who made many friends who
will join in mourning his loss and extending their sympathy to the bereaved
family of the son.

married November 3, 1800 in Franklin, Virginia
If so, then this is Abraham's brother and nephew.

DR. J. BROWER, physician and surgeon, Johnsvi!le. born in West
Alexandria, Preble County, Ohio, February 14, 1841 ; is a son of Joseph
and Maria (Spatty) Brower, he a native of this county, and she of
Switzerland. The grandfather, Abraham Brower, was a native of Virginia ;
he emigrated to Ohio and located near Germantown about 1805, being one
of the early pioneers ; he resided there a short time, thence he moved
into Preble County, where he resided till his death. Joseph, who was
born about 1809, or about four years after his father came to this
county, was rocked in the pioneer cradle, and grew up to manhood inured
to the scenes and hardships of those primitive times, receiving but a
meager education, such as those days afforded ; but he possessed a
natural ability and became a very popular man of his day ; was elected
Justice of the Peace when only eighteen years of age ; held many of the
offices of his township and county ; was County Treasurer for four
years, and became a man of wealth and influence, and is still residing
near West Alexandria, now over three score years and ten," loved and
respected by all who know him. Our subject, who was born and raised in
Preble County, and educated in the common schools, conceived the idea in
his youthful days of becoming a physician, and early commenced to
prepare for that profession by entering upon a course of study under Dr.
O. E. Tillson, of West Alexandria, with whom he remained several years,
thence in the winter of 1875 entered the Eclectic Medical Institute at
Cincinnati ; went through their complete course on the practice of
medicine and surgery, and graduated in 1878, receiving his diploma with
honors. e immediately located in Johnsville, and commenced the practice
of his profession ; has now been located here four years ; has a good,
lucrative practice, and from his affableness of manners and social
qualities, his thorough course and preparation for his profession, with
his natural ability and love for the same, we may safely predict for him
a growing practice and a success in his profession second to but few in
the county. Joseph Brower was born in 1807; married Maria Spatty
in 1838, and resides one mile east of West Alexandria. He has been, with
the exception of a few months, a resident of the township since 1815. A
daughter is the wife of Dr. Tillson, of West Alexandria.

Mary probably is the Mary E. Smith born April 1838 in Indiana, married to
James F. Smith, living in Humboldt, Richardson, Nebraska in 1880.,because that's
where Abraham and Barbara were. Mary and James were in the same household
as Abraham in 1860 in Jasper County. Mary has Abraham Smith, 1, and
Abraham P. , two months. This has to be the same Abraham Pleasant Smith
who ran a livery stable in Fraser, Colorado and was buried there in 1926

cement house by then).

1n 1912 their house was designated the polling place for the Weld City
precinct - four townships. They were doing it in 1914, with Gerry
receiving $10 polling place rent and Chas. $5. for election board
In 1920 Gerry's 63, Mary 51, and Gerry's brother Eldridge E. 64
and his wife Delila 68 are living with them. Eldridge didn't stay long,
because he died in 1923 in Charles Hix County, Couth Dakota. He really got
around - in 1910 he was farming in Kittitas County, Washington and in 1900 in
Polk County, Iowa.
Mary, the
only one of the Elliott children to stay in Yuma, is buried in the Yuma Cemetery
with husband Gerry Brower.Their son Charlie Brower married Viola Robertson
(her parents Ona and Mary were in the same precinct in 1920), and they operated
a blacksmith shop in the 4 N 46 W township for many years, moving to Yuma (Cedar
Street, according to one resident). Charlie is also in the Yuma
Cemetery, but the Yuma cemetery records don't show Viola. (wonder if the Viola Robertson who began study at Fazel-Adams
Business College in Wichita, Kansas in 1902 is the same one. In March 1903
she left to accept a position as stenographer at her home in Jewell City).

for a "seeding machine" - usually called a "planter."

In 1910 Ethel Herbaugh is a daughter of George F. and Martha J. Herbaugh - on
the same census page as Seborn. Elmer F. is 19, Orval L. 16. Viola G. 14,
Ethel J 12, Ella M. 9, Arthur F. 6, Roy A. 5, and Blanche W. 2.
Also in 1910

The WWI registration list included "Edwards, Bird Austin."

In 1920 Weld City Precinct, Yuma County, Bird A. Edwards is married to Ella
M., with L. Lavern 18 months old. In 1930 they've moved to Denver, and
have Lillian L. 11, and Paul L. 9.. They're still in Denver in 1940, where
Bird runs a coal yard. Paul is 19, a service station attendant.

Lillian L. Tuin,
93, born 16 Jun 1918 of Hotchkiss, Colo.,
passed away peacefully on Thursday, February
23, 2012 at her residence.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 at the Friend’s
Church in Paonia, Colo. Interment will
follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Paonia.
Viewing will be held from noon to 1 p.m..
at the church prior to the funeral service.
Lillian is survived by her three sons:
Lon Tuin of Marion, Ind.; Jan Tuin of
Hotchkiss, and Van Tuin of Paonia; her two
daughters: Sherry Perkins of Hotchkiss, and
Sandee Ross of Phelan, Colo.; 15
grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and
five great-great-grandchildren.
Melvin is also claimed by Francis and Lula C. Kissinger in Vancouver.
(In 1900 Francis is "Cole" Kissinger, son of Andrew and Alice Kissinger
in Camden County, Missouri.
Francis died in September 1941 in Tacoma Washington - age 47.
Melvin Lee Kissinger is in the California Death Index, born September 22,
1927 in Washington, dying January 5, 1993 in Los Angeles - mother's maiden name
was Robbins.
Albert H. Elliott claimed land in Section 22, 4 N 46W on February 5, 1917.
His witnesses were Ernest Smart of Holyoke, Fred Herbaugh of Ford, John Edwards
of Eckley, and John S. Burke of Eckley.
In April 1913 "Marriage licenses were issued to the following people the
latter part of last week. David E. Edwards and Miss Grace V. Herbaugh of
Ford, Colo..... and Orval L. Herbaugh and Miss Bessie Edith McCleery of Ford,
Colo.
In August 1905 the Eckley news "Mrs. W.F. Elliott was in Wray Wednesday."
William R. Elliott claimed land near the other Elliotts, and witnesses were
Bird Edwards, Orval Herbough , Charley Brower ( all three names were those that
Elliott girls married) and Fred Clevenger, So it's possible that
William was a cousin.
William's not in the Yuma County 1934 or 1937 directories.
May 1905 the Eckley news "Miss Adelia Brower and Roscoe Elliott left for Wray
on No. 14 Wednesday evening, to attend the 8th grade examination."
In May 1906 the Eckley news "Another Yuma county boy has gone out to see for
himself what this old world is like. The many friends of Roscoe Elliott,
who recently completed a course in telegraphy, will be pleased to learn that he
has secured a petition with the C & S at Windsor, Colo. We all hope that
when he is president of the road, he will remember us with passes."
In February 1907 the Eckley news section of the Yuma Pioneer " Roscoe Elliott
came down from Akron to visit his parents (?) who reside in this hamlet"
in May 1907 "Roscoe Elliott and Adelia Brower were married Sunday evening,
May 26, Rev. Winterbourn of Akron performing the ceremony. The bride and
groom have the best wishes of their many friends."

Leona Karls, 87,
of Carmichael, Calif., died July 7, 2002, in Sterling.
Burial will be in Sacramento, Calif. Arrangements were
made by Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Mrs. Karls was born
April 5, 1915, to Thomas and Edith (Cross) Elliott in
Eckley . She was a widow. Her husband
Eston Karls died in 1997. Mrs. Karls is survived by
brother Earl Elliott, Sterling; and several nieces and
nephews.
