Walter and Hannah Compton, Bryant


In 1850 Erie County, Pennsylvania, James Compton is 52, Betsey 48, Clarissa 25, mary 33, Betsey 21, James 19, Hugh 17, ROBERT 15, Emeline 13, Johnson 11, Helena 9, and John 6.

Also in 1850 Erie County, Walter Compton is 26, born in New York, Hannah 24, with Mary Campbell 66 and Jane Morrison 11.

Walter is in Venango County, Pennsylvania in 1870, with Hannah, both 46. James A. is 18, William R. 11.

In 1880 Walter and "Anna" are farming in Platte County, Nebraska, with W.R 21 and Victoria Owen 13.

In 1885 Platte County, Nebraska, Walter Compton is farming, 61, Hannah 60, Will 26, and Victoria Owen is a servant, 16. Betsy Compton 89 his mother, and Clarissa 60 a sister are with them.

" COMPTON--July 12th, at 2 o'clock p.m., at her home in the eastern part of the city, of blood poisoning, Miss Clarissa Compton, aged about seventy years. Deceased was a sister of Mrs. L.M. Saley. She had not been sick but a few days previous to her death. For several years she took care of an invalid sister and all who knew her then, knew her Christian spirit. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon."

 William and Walter did cash claims in section 3, 4N 48W in 1891, on the "correction line road"


Next to their son William in 1900 Yuma County, Walter Compton born Oct 1823 in New York, with Hannah Oct 1824 Pennsylvania. She's had three kids, one living. James Nov 1830, widowed, born in New York, is with them.

Walter Compton proved up a quarter in section 33 in 1896.

June 14, 1901

Walter is buried in Yuma # 67590966, " Walter Compton, a pioneer of Yuma County, passed away Wednesday night at his home a few miles north of Yuma.
Mr. Compton was born in Genesee County, New York seventy nine years ago. He and Mrs. Compton took up their residence in Yuma County about thirteen years ago, with their only child W. R. Compton, at his sheep ranch about sixteen miles north of Yuma.
Our heart goes out to the poor old wife, the companion of many years, the light of her life has gone out, and to the son, relatives, and friends of the deceased.
Services will be conducted at their home today by Elder Curtis after which the loved one will be laid to rest in the Yuma Cemetery.

Hannah 1824-1913 is buried in Denver # 118754179.

WILLIAM

William R. Compton and Hattie F. Owen married on July 20, 1889 in Arapahoe County, Colorado (which at that time included Denver and stretched to the Kansas border.)

Hattie Owen cash-claimed a quarter in section 33, 5N 48W in 1891, and then Hattie F. Compton proved up one next to it in 1896.



1899

In 1900 Yuma County, William is a ranchman, born April 1860 in Pennsylvania, married ten years to Hattie July 1862 in Iowa. Walter M. Augsut 1890, Charels C. Dec 1891, and Bastle R. May 1894, all three born in Colorado.
Their servant Victora Antoinette Owen was born Sept 2 1869 in Cresco, Iowa, to Amasa Charles Owen and Anna Maria Cravens.
(In 1930 Los Angeles, Lettie A. 47 and sister Victoria A. Owen, 44, are living together.

Victoria G Owen and Frank L Cooley married 14 May 1930 in Pierce County, Washington.
In 1940 Kitsap County, Washington, Victoria Cooley is 70 Wife, Frank Cooley 58 Head.
Victoria A. Cooley, Age: 82, died 19 Apr 1952 in Auburn, King County, Washington)

1901 "Misses Lettie and Emma Owen and Mrs. W. R. Compton left Wednesday afternoon for Denver whee they will visit relatives for thirty days."

1903

April 29, 1904 "As soon as the children recover from measles, W.R. Compton and family will move to Denver."
"What will Yuma county republicans do for a vest pocket the 'little Mark Hanna' Compton leaves the county?"

1905 "Word was received here (Yuma) of the critical illness of Walter Compton, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Compton formerly of this place but now of Denver."


March 1905 "Mr. Evans came in with a car of household goods yesterday. He has borught the Compton place northwest of town."

1906 "Fred Evans who owns the Compton ranch has built extensive cattle sheds and corrals and will stock his ranch with a good grde of cattle."

In 1910 Denver, William is a quartz miner, 50, with Hattie 47, Walter 19, Charles 18, Bartle 16, and Hannah 85.

William and Hattie are alone in 1930 Denver, living on Jewell Avenue.

Hattie Florence Owen Compton 1858-1935 is buried in Denver # 118754180. "The daughter of Charles Amasa Owen and Anna Maria Cravens of Pennsylvania, Hattie Owen Married William Ruric Compton July 20, 1889 in Arapahoe, Colorado. They had three children: Walter Murat Compton, Charles Clyde Compton and Bartle Robert Compton."

William is in Denver in 1940, 80, now married to Sarah B., 77.
(This is likely Sarah (Warren) (Stacey) (Evans) Compton, who had Edna Adelia on March 25, 1886 in Illinois. She was widowed in 1900, and 1910.
She had married Jack O. Evans on January 24, 1920 in Denver.

William Ruric Compton 1858-1941 is buried in the same cemetery as Hattie # 118754183.

WALTER

Walter is a pumper in 1940 Natrona County, Wyoming, 48, with Alma B. 45, Lucille H. 17, Verna M. 15, and William W. 13.

Walter M. Compton, born August 27, 1890, died March 16, 1948.
Alma Bertha Compton, born Jan 4, 1896 in Medford Wisconsin to August Reiman and Anna Kuchenbaker, died in April 1979 in King County, Washington.

CHARLES

Charles Compton is a baker in 1920 Casper, Wyoming, 30, born in Colorado.

He's a baker in 1940 Los Angeles, 47, married to Alma 37 born in California. Robert 8 and Joan 7 were born in California, and Arzella B. Pickering, 70, born in Iowa is Alma's mother.
(Arzella B. Upton Pickering 1869-1944 is buried in Los Angeles # 96453620, with Evan F. Pickering 1854-1939.)

Charles Clyde Compton, born Dec 9, 1892, died in Los Angeles County Feb 12, 1949. Findagrave # 96453696 has him buried in the same cemetery as Arzella 1892-1948.

Alma Messer Compton, born Sep 28, 1902 to father Pickering and mother Upton, died January 2, 1988 in Los Angeles County.

Joan Alma Gates, born January 9, 1933, married Howard H. Gates, 34 on Sept 29, 1956 in Los Angeles. She died June 11, 2010.

BARTLE


Bart Robert Compton, born May 17, 1893 in Denver, died September 22, 1975 in Spokane, Washington, buried there # 87979349.

He married Bernice Douglas on November 26, 1921 in Denver.

In 1930 Bart is a baker in Portland, Oregon, 34, with Bernice 30 born in Nebraska, and Grace E. 3 born in Oregon>

Bart and Bernice are alone in 1940 Portland.

Bernice, 50, daughter of Charles J. Douglas and Sadie Irene Marshall, died in Spokane on June 27, 1949.

Charles James Douglas 1861-1941 is buried in Portland # 14319728, with Sadie Irene 1866-1930 # 143139759.

Grace E. Compton, 19, married Lawrence W. Nuenkes on Nov 17, 1945 in Clark County, Washington.
She's buried in Fort Rosecrans, with Lawrence William Nuenke, child Larry Robert Nuenke.
