"Nancy Jane Wade, daughter of John B., and Henrietta Wheeler was born near Kindred Hook, Pike County, Illinois, June 26, 1853.
When she was four years of age she moved with her parents to Rock Point, Missouri, where she grew to young womanhood. On September 17, 1871 she was united in marriage to
Alfred Franklin Wade. To this union five children were born, three of whom preceeded her in death; Sena and Johnny who passed away in early infancy and Mrs. tabitha Bouse,
who passed away at Franklin, Nebraska in 1912. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Wade and children moved to DeWitt, Nebraska and in 1887
she was united in marriage to Daniel Warden Foster and to this union was born one daughter. In 1904 the family again sought a new location coming to
Pleasant Green vicinity thirteen miles north west of Kensington. In 1913 she moved to Kensington, where on July 2, 1917, she was stricken with paralysis and since that
time has been a helpless invalid until she heeded her Maker's summons and cast away her earthly cares at 9:20 p.m. June 5, 1934, at the advanced
age of 80 years, 11 months and 9 days.
The eldest of a family of twelve children, Mrs. Wade knew all the privations and hardships incident in a pioneer life, oft times recalling that the trip from Illiniois to
Missouri was made in prairie schooners, one drawn by a yoke of oxen and one by cows. Early in life she was baptized into the Christian church and this continued to be her
faith until the gates of eternity opened for her. Mrs. Wade was a good neighbor and friend, ever ready to lend a hand in time of need.
Her son, George, has been with her constantly for two weeks ministering to her needs. During the seventeen years of her invalism he has ever tried to alleviate her suffering.
Members of the immediate family left to mourn are: Two sons, James of DeWitt, Nebraska, and George of Agra, Kansas; one daughter, Mrs. Ella Brant of Sterling, Colorado;
one sister, Mrs. Mary Helms of Auburn, Nebraska; twenty-two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The pains of death are past, Labor and sorrow cease, A life's long warfare closed at last Her soul is bound in peace.
Servant of Christ, well done, Praise be thy new employ, And while eternal ages run, Rest is thy Savior's joy.
Dearest mother we have laid thee In the peaceful grave so low, You will no longer join our number And no more our sorrows know.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Greene in the Beulah Church Thursday afternoon, June 7th. Interment was made in the Germantown Cemetery. CARD OF THANKS We sincerely thank the neighbors and friends for every expression of sympathy at the passing of our dear mother and grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. George Wade and family. Mr. and Mrs. James Wade and family Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brant and family. (submitted by Linda Outhet Chang)

Sylvia Alma Wade was born in Phillips County, Kansas on August 26, 1921 to George Washington Wade and Lucy Bell Outhet Wade.
Sylvia was the fifth of seven children. The Wade’s were farmers. Life as a on the farm gave Sylvia some fond memories she loved to share. She would often recall breaking her wrist twice within a year due to a fall from the exact same haystack. Sylvia also enjoyed sharing the story of her, with all of her brothers and sisters going barefoot each year to celebrate their father’s birthday. George and Lucy went to be with the Lord within a year of each other when Sylvia was still a teenager. The Wade children leaned on each other after the loss of their parent s and this lead to a closeness that continues to this day. Sylvia was a proud graduate of Agra Rural School in Kansas.
As young ladies Sylvia and her sister Goldie moved to Denver. In Denver Sylvia met Harold Dean Nichols. They were married November 29, 1943. Sylvia and Harold had two children Alma and Charles. Several years later Sylvia’s sister Goldie married Harold’s brother Howard.
Sylvia and Harold owned and operated a television repair shop in Longmont. In addition to helping her husband with the shop Sylvia was also an active community volunteer. When Alma and Charles were young she helped with Girl and Boy Scouts. Sylvia also recognized a need for emergency medical care in the Firestone, Fredrick, and Dacono area and was instrumental in organizing the Tri-Area Ambulance Service. Sylvia served as an EMT, ambulance driver, and an instructor. For years it was not uncommon to see stethoscopes and CPR dummies in her living room. Sylvia loved the town of Firestone and served on the Town Board for 20 years. She enjoyed being in parades and visiting with her neighbors at the post office. Sylvia was also a member of Soroptimists International, the Elks Auxillary, United Methodist Women, and many other organizations as well as a volunteer at Longmont Hospital.
Sylvia married Walter Phillips in 1991. The Phillips’ moved to St. Vrain Manor in Longmont. Sylvia and Walter enjoyed traveling, singing, and visiting with each other’s families. Sylvia and Walter visited family from Texas to Alaska and many places in between.
Sylvia loved God and was a follower of Jesus Christ. She attended Rinn United Methodist for many years and later transferred her membership to Longmont United Methodist, now known as Heart of Longmont. She continued to study the Bible and worship God during services at Lawrence Street Healthcare in Tomball, TX where she lived.
Sylvia delighted in watching her grand-children and great grand-children grow. She loved her family and it was never more obvious than watching her giggle and play with the children. Sylvia loved to win at games. She liked to play board and card games but, she loved to win. She was a very competitive opponent and known to occasionally let someone else win. Sylvia enjoyed eating out and during the last few years had refined her love of vanilla ice cream and Coke. No matter the time of day ice cream was her first choice and she would tell her dining companions just how good it was with every bite and a smile on her face.
Sylvia is survived by her 2 brothers, her daughter, her son, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2014 at Carroll-Lewellen Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
