Arriving at Philadelphia in 1879 were Abraham and Catherina Warkentin, both 46, with Catherina 20, Bernhard 18, Aganeta 15, Susanna 13, Heinrich 9, Alla 5, and Gerhard 2.
In 1895 Harvey County, Abraham Warkentin is 62, Gerhard 18, Elizabet 15. On the same page is Abram W. is 32, Matilda 26, both born in Russia. Charles is 1, Herman four months, borth born in Kansas.
Abraham was widowed in 1900 Harvey County, Kansas, with Gerhard June 1876 and Elisabeth June 1879. Next household is Abraham W. Julyh 1862, married to Mathilda Oct 1868 and their five kids.
Abraham 1833-1906 and Catherina 1833-1891 are buried in Reno County, Kansas, 22401372.

The Bernard Warkentin below was NOT the one in Kirk, or a son, but certainly was related.





The death of Bernhard Warkentin occurred in a most tragic manner, April 1, 1908, in Beirut, Syria. Mr. and Mrs. Warkentin were traveling by rail from Damascus to Beirut, when a young Turk, grandson of Abd-el-Kader, travelling in an adjoining compartment accidentally discharged a pistol. The fatal bullet penetrated the dividing wall of the compartment entering Mr. Warkentin's back. He lived about eleven hours after the accident, in the German Deaconess Hospital in Bierut[sic]. Mrs. Warkentin accompanied the remains of Mr. Warkentin to their home in Newton, where they lie interred in the family mausoleum which Mr. Warkentin had erected just before his departure for Egypt and The Holy Land. Besides his window, Mr. Warkentin left a son, Carl B. Warkentin, of Newton, Kansas, who immediately took up the responsibilities of the business interests, and a daughter, Edna W., the wife of Maurice L. Alden, an attorney of Kansas City, Kansas.

In 1900 Cope precinct, Edward Suderman born Dec 1833 in Germany, married 36 years to Maria Feb 1833 Germany, are living with Cornelius January 1868 Russia and Annie Sept 1877 Nebraska - just married.
The next household is Bernhard Warkentin May 1860, Mary Feb 1865, both Russia, with Bernhard Oct 1885, Kansas, Mary May 1887 Kansas, Abraham Oct 1888 Kansas, Edward March 1890 Kansas, John March 1894 Colorado, Susan April 1898 Colorado, and Herman Sept 1899 Colorado.

In 1910 Kirk precinct Edward is widowed, 76, living with daughter Mary Warkentin, 45, married 25 years to Bernhardt Warkentin, both born in Russia.
In 1920 Edward "Siderman" is living with daughter Maria Warkentin in Marion County Kansas.

One tree said Gerard Dick Warkentine and Anna Maria Loepp married June 1, 1902 in Reno County, Kansas.

In 1910 Yuma County, following Bernhard S. 24, born in Kansas, is Gerard D. Warkentin, 33, born in Russia, married eight years to Annie 30, born in Russia. She's had two kids, one living. Gerard is 7, born in Kansas.
"Gerard Dick" Warkentin registered at Joes, born June 5, 1876, a naturalized citizen, farming by himself, neareset relative Anna Warkentin of Joes.
Gerard, Annie and Gerhard L. are in Yuma County in 1920 - Gerhard immigrated in 1879, Annie in 1893.
In 1930 Gerard and Anna are farming in Yuma County. On the same page is - likely the nephew of Gerard - Herman Warkentin 30, born in Colorado, Anna 29, both born in Colorado.
Gerhard D. Warkentin 1876-1933 is buried in Joes, Colorado, per # 67346991.
Anna L. Warkentin is widowed in 1940 Yuma, living with son George, 37, Kansas, and Anna 31 Nebraska. They have Donna J. 8, Richard L. 7, Shirley D. 3, and Carroll nine months.
In 1930 Yuma, Anna 21 and Clara 18 Dehnpostel are waitresses in a cafe. They are rooming with the O.C. and Jane Barth family, the cafe proprietors, on South Birch Street.

Anna L. Warkentin 1878-1954 is buried in Joes, # 67346990.
George L. 1903-1978 and his wife Anna 74387179 are buried in Yuma.


In 1920 Bernhard and Maria are in Marion County, Kansas, with Susie 21, Herman 20, Gerhard 18, Anna 16, Lydia 14, Henry 12, Erick 10, and father Edward "Siderman", 86.
In 1930 Marion County, Bernard is 69, Maria 64, with Susie 32, Anna E. 27, and Eric 20.
In 1940 Fresno County, California, Marie is 75, widowed, and she and Eric 31 are living with Lydia 35 and Jake 34 Braun.
In 1949 Eric and Marie (wid Bernhard) are living at 68 Friesen Avenue, Fresno.

June 11, 1970 "John W. Warkentin was born on March 29, 1894 at Kirk, Colo., the son of Bernhard and Maria Suderman Warkentin. He received his early education in that community, joined the Mennonite Brethren Church through confession of faith and baptism, and then came to Hillsboro to attend the Tabor Academy at the age of 16. Further schooling at the college not only enabled him to enter the teaching profession but also gave him a love for the school that never diminished through the years.
He taught school at French Creek and Creswell in the Hillsboro community for four years. During this time he married Martha Schroeder (June 6, 1917), and to this union were born three children, Evelyn, Esther and Leo, the youngest of whom, a son, was killed April 1945 on Okinawa.
During subsequent years he worked locally as a printer at the Hillsboro Publishing House, at Ebel's Feed mill, the Hillsboro State bank, and as a field representative for Tabor College. He later rented a hatchery for several years and in 1936 built his own business establishment, remaining in the hatchery business until 1953. He added a refrigerated locker plant in 1940 and remained its owner and operator until 1966.
In 1947 he was saddened by the death of his wife. Soon afterward he went to South America, fulfilling his part of their plan to assist for two years in settling refugees who had come to Paraguay after the war. While in South America he met and married, on September 3, 1949, Kaethe Kasdorf, a teacher and one of the refugees. In December 1949 they came to Hillsboro. To this marriage two children, John and Sharon, were born.
Throughout his life he gave himself to many interests and activities in the church and community. His love for Tabor College resulted in 41 years of service on the Board of Education, during which time he served as treasurer. In the church he enjoyed singing in the male chorus for 20 years, teaching Sunday school for more than 50 years, serving as church treasurer for 20 years, and on the church council for a long period of time. In the community he served on the boards of the Salem Home for the Aged and Salem Hospital, working actively and contributing toward building projects for both of these institutions. He also served as interim administrator at the local hospital for one year. During the past two years he had become particularly engrossed in the work of MCC Relief Auction Sales and served this new organization as secretary of the board. In the midst of an active and exciting life he suddenly departed from this life early Monday morning, May 18, 1970, passing away quietly in his sleep. He was 76 years old. Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, five brothers and one sister. Surving are his wife, Kaethe, and four children, Evelyn, Mrs. Clifford Delk and husband, Hillsboro, Esther, Mrs. George Atkinson and husband, Norton, Kan., John and Sharon of the home; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Abe (Enid), George (Hillsboro), and Eric (Reedley); four sisters: Mary, Mrs. Jake Heinrichs, Susie, Mrs. Paul Ruth and Lydia, Mrs. Jake Braun, all of Reedley, Calif., and Ann Warkentin of Kansas City, Mo., along with many other relatives and friends. "

Lydia (Warkentin) Brauin 1905-1992 is buried in Fresno #39570917.



ALBERT
"Matilda Warkentine, 95, was born on August 3, 1919, in the sand hills near Joes, Colorado. She was the third child of five children born to Bernhard and Susie Fadenrecht. She entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 5, 2015 in Yuma, Colorado. Matilda married Albert Warkentine on March 19, 1939 at the Mennonite Brethern Church in Joes, Colorado. Matilda was traveling in California with her brothers Edgar and Edwin working in the fruit harvest and visiting family and friends when she met Albert. They made their home on a farm near Kirk, Colorado and lived on the same farm for 65 years. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in Flagler, Colorado in 2005. Matilda lived her entire life in the Joes/Kirk community. In addition to the responsibilities of the wheat and cattle farm, Matilda cooked for Liberty school, worked in several area restaurants and was active in the Joes Mennonite Brethren Church. She and Albert survived during difficult times by selling products they produced on the farm. Matilda was a hardworking, dedicated wife and mother who found joy in the regular rhythms of eastern Colorado farm life. She is preceded in death by her parents: one sister, Alice Heide, two brothers, Edgar and Edwin Fadenrecht. She is survived by her sister, Ruby Heinrichs, her son, Alvin and wife Dotty Warkentine of Fresno, California, her daughter, Ruth and husband Gilbert Seibel of Thornton, Colorado and her son, Lee and wife Polly Warkentine of Boulder, Colorado, 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Liberty Baptist Church in Joes, July 17, 2015 at 10:30 am with the Pastor Jack Stout Officiating. Interment will be at the New Hope Mennonite Brethren cemetery. Services will be directed by Baucke Funeral Home."
