Melcena E Barnhill Fox BIRTH 1840 DEATH 1915 (aged 74–75) BURIAL Lucas Memorial Cemetery Yuma County, Colorado, PLOT B17 MEMORIAL ID 52235727
" Mrs. Fox is an old time resident of the county, and the mother of the Fox Bros., John, Emmet and Bud, who are well known over the entire county.
The following obituary was furnished us by a friend of the deceased:
Melcena Ellen Barnhill was born February 15, 1840 at Port Byron, Illinois, died February 20, 1915 at her home near Idalia, Colo., aged seventy-five years and five days. At an early day she moved with her parents to eastern Nebraska, near where the present town of Wahoo now stands. Here she met and married Thomas Fox, who preceded her to the spirit world some four years ago. She has been a pioneer all her life, moving with her family to Kansas in 1886, living there seven years and then coming to Colorado in 1893, where she has since resided. She gave her heart to the Lord in the year 1904, and united with the M. E. Church, and has lived a consistent Christian life ever since. She was a faithful wife and a loving, tender mother.
She leaves to mourn her loss, three sons, John, Emmet and Bud all of this county, and three daughters, Mrs. Ona Wilcoxen, of this county, Mrs. Murnie Hadsall, of Idaho, and Mrs. Carrie Reasonor of Kansas. She is also survived by three sisters and one brother.
The Rattler joins with a host of friends in extending sympathy to those bereaved of a good and kind mother."

January 1928 "Yuma County lost one of its oldest settlers in the death of Emmett Fox of Idalia Colorado. Emmett, as he. was affectionately known by innumerable friends in Yuma county and the middle west, passed away Sunday, January 1, 1928 and was laid to rest in the Idalia cemetery January 5. Emmett Albertus Fox was born at Ashland,. Nebr., April 5, 1878, and died January 1, 1928, aged 49 years, 8 months and 27 days. The Fox family moved to western Kansas in the fall of 1886, from there to Colorado in March 1893 where the Fox brothers established their ranch on the Arickaree of which Emmett was a member of the firm, where he spent the remainder of his life helping in the building up of the ranch and their various other enterprises. His quiet, unassuming manner and his fair dealing with all whom he came in contact with won him the respect and affection of all. Emmett’s life was that of a pioneer, bravely and cheerfully facing the dangers, exposure and hardships which can only be realized by those engaged in early day ranching. He was the posessor of a keen mind and hi s ready wit and excellent judgment pertaining to all matters concerning the cattle business and an absolute disregard of personal danger caused him to be much sought after and greatly admired which marked him a man among men. During the writers friendship with the deceased which has extended over a period of twenty-five years, I have never heard him speak an unkind word or did I ever know him to fail to extend tender and sympathetic help to those in sorrow or distress. In passing, Emmett leaves to mourn his death) two sisters, Minnie Hadsall of Middletan, Ida., and Ona Wilcoxen of Billings, Mont., two brothers, Thomas Fox and John Fox of Idalia, Colo., and fifteen nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his father and mother, who are buried | in the Idalia cemetery and a sister, Mrs. R. A. Reasoner of Oberlin, Kan. Emmett’s gone but not forgotten. Never shall his memory fade, Tender thots shall alwayg linger Around the spot where he was laid.
