James Blufold Starkey, son James B. and Anna A. (Shulke) Starkey, son George Starkey, Alvin

James B. Starkey married Nancy E. Shively on June 28, 1874 in Page County, Iowa.
Nancy had been in Page County in 1870, 18, with John 45 and Martha 48. Mary M. is 22, Nancy 18, Sarah 14, Geoge W. 11, Armilda 9, and John M. 5.
In 1880 Smith County, Kansas, James B. Starkey is farming, 32, born in Illinois, with Nancy D. 28 Kentucky. Martha A. is 5, born in Nebraska, George W. 2, born in Kansas.
On the same page is John Shively 59, born in Kentucky, and Martha A. 58 Ohio, with John M. 15 and George W. 22, both born in Kentucky.

In 1900 Smith County, John "Shivly" is 74, Martha A. 78, George W. 41, and John M. 36.
Daughter Sarah Middaugh, born January 1856 in Kentucky is widowed, never having children.
She was born January 5, 1856 in Pendleton County, Kentucky.
Sarah was also listed in the 1900 census with sister Mary M. Kirkendall, born Februaray 1847 in Kentucky and her husband George March 1829 and their five kids.
John Shively 1826-1902 is buried in Reamsville, Smith County, per # 53803197. So is Martha Ann Shively 1822-1901, per # 53803198.

George Shively is in Smith County, Kansas in 1905, with Sarah Middaugh 49. Eva Rubins is 29, Lela 2. Frank Middaugh is 25.

George Shively is in Noble County, Oklahoma in 1910, with sister Sarah - who's had three kids, two living. Lena A. Rubens is George's niece, 7, born in Kansas.

George W. Shively was in Dolores County, Colorado in 1920, farming, 61, with widowed sister Sarah Middaugh 64, both born in Kentucky. Frank Middaugh, his nephew, 39, born in Iowa, also widowed, and Leta Rubens, George's grand niece born in Kansas is with them.
Lela A. Rubins married Cassius I. Neely on June 24, 1920, recorded in Montezuma County.
Cassius was widowed, having Mildred 10, Fern 8, and Iris 6 in 1920 Dolores County.
Lela A. Neely 1902-1946 is buried in Dolores County, # 13393090.

In 1930 Dolores County, Frank is 43, mother Sarah 73, both widowed. They're next to James W. Neely 73 and Emma 62. Then comes Claud E. and Leta M. Neely, 42 and 23. Then Cassius I. Neely 43 and Lela A. 27 with Mildred 20, Eva A. 9, and Delpha E. 4. .


Sarah Middaugh is also buried there, # 13393097.
Probably George is, too. Columbine has an Shivele, O.W. buried in Cahone.
Frank Middaugh registered for WWII in Cahone, Dolores County, reference Mrs. Lela Neely. He was born November 13, 180 in hamburg, Iowa.


In 1900 Cherokee County, Kansas, James B. is 51, Nancey D. 48, "Bleuford" 14.

In 1910 Franklin County, Nebraska, James Starkey is 62, Nancy 58, Blufod 24, Anna 20, and Clarence 1.

January 1914 "J. B. Starkey has made application for the post office at Alvin to succeed James Coast, resigned." This might be the father

In 1915 Labette, Kansas, J. B. Starkey is 67, W. D. 63, female, Nina 8, Claud 10, Letha M. 7, Verlin G. 4. George W. Starkey is 35.

James Bluford Starkey registered for WWI with an Alvin addess, farming, born July 15, 1885, wife Anna Adaline Starkey.

James proved up 240 acres in 10 and 11 in 1916, and stock-claimed another 240 in 10 and 15 in 1923.
His witnesses were James H. Coast, William C. Richards, Samuel A. Yost, and John T. Calkins, all of Alvin, Colorado.

February 1917 "Mrs. C. A. Schulke and little son, Alvin, left Monday evening for their home near Naponee, Nebraska. They had spent a month visiting Mrs. Schulkes three daughters, Mesdames Ed Bascue, Bluford Starkey and Harry Wistrand, who reside twenty miles northwest of Wray."


In 1920 Yuma County, Bluford J. Starkey is 34, born in Kansas, Anna A. 30 Nebraska. Clarence 11 and Ethel L 8 were born in Nebaska, Roy J. 4 and Milton P. i2 in Colorado. His mother Nancy D. 68 is widowed, born in Kentucky.

In 1930 "J.V." and Anna are in Jackson County, Oregon, with Ethel 18, Roy 14, Milton 12, Ruth 8, and mother Nancy 78 still with them.

James and "Alma" are in Franklin County, Nebaska in 1940, with Ethel 20 and Ruth 18.

December 25, 1955 Medford, Oregon
"The Rev. and Mrs. J. B. Starkey were honored by their sons and daughters December 10 in wedding anniversary. The Starkeys were married in Phillips county, Kansas, and came to Medford in 1924. Joining in celebration of the couple's 50th anniversary are Clarence Starkey, Medford; Mrs. Thomas Harger, Central Point; the Rev. Roy Starkey, Portland; Milton Starkey, Salem, and Mrs. James Hoskms, Lincoln, Neb. Out-of-town guests included Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schulke and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schulke, and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Hecht, all of Silverton; Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Colley, Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brown, Kirby and Mr. and Mrs. Will Lowe, Riverside, Calif.
The honored couple received many congratulatory cards and gifts."

James died July 13, 1959 in Jackson County, Oregon.
July 14, 1959 "Funeral services for James Bluford Starkey, 73, of 457 Fairmont St.; who died in a local hospital Monday morning, will be held at the Perl Funeral home Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. James C. Hoskins, son-in-law of Mr. Starkey, will officiate. Interment will be in the Memory Gardens Memorial park. MtV Starkey was a retired minister of the United Missionary church, Nebraska district, and was one of two senior members of the Nebraska district that had served for more than 40 years, and had served on the executive board of the church and vice district chairman for a number of years. Survivors, besides his wife, Anna A. Starkey of Medford, are two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Carter of Central Point, and Mrs. Ruth Hoskins of Lincoln, Nebr.; three sons, Clarence Starkey of Medford, Roy Starkey of Yakima, Wash., and Milton Starkey of Salem.
He's buried in Medford 1885-1959 # 100562680, with Anna A. 1889-1975.

"James Bluford Starkey (b. 15 July 1885 Smith County, Kansas-d. 13 July 1959 Medford Oregon) m. (10 December 1905 Phillips County Kansas) Anna Adeline Schulke, who was born 20 July 1889 Harlan County Nebraska and died 27 April 1975 Newburg Oregon, the daughter of Carl August and Sophronia Marie (Finch) Schulke."

"Roy Starkey, 92, passed away on October 5, 2007 in Bothell, Washington. He was born on July 24, 1915 in Alvin, Colorado. He was worked as a Minister. Burial will be in Portland Oregon."


Ruth Viola (Hoskins) Miller was born the daughter of James, and Anna (Schulkie) Starkey on Friday, June 17th, 1921 in Alvin, Colorado.

Ruth attended college at Iowa Western in Clarinda, Iowa where she received her teaching degree. On September 3, 1941 Ruth was married to James Hoskins. They lived in the Midwest, California, Oregon and Canada where she taught music in elementary schools. In 1980 they moved to Newberg to enjoy their retirement.

He preceded her in death on April 25, 1983. She later married Kenneth Miller on June 25, 1989; he died August 23, 2000. She enjoyed reading, baking cookies and playing her piano. Ruth attended Newberg Church of the Nazarene for many years. Praying for her family and friends and attending prayer meetings were an important part of her life.

On Monday, September 27, 2010, Ruth Viola (Hoskins) Miller died at a local nursing home when she was Eighty-nine years, three months and ten days of age.

Surviving and left to honor her life are: her sister in law, Thelma Hoskins; many nieces and nephews; Kenneth Miller’s children and grandchildren and those who have come to know and appreciate her where she has lived and worked. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Her Funeral Service, will be Monday, October 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Newberg Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Don Fivecoat officiating. A public committal will be at Valley View Memorial Park, Newberg at 2:00 p.m. Chapel

"George Washington Starkey (b. 18 April 1878-d. 1933 Medford ) m. Etta Bond"

In 1910 Los Angeles, George W. Starkey is 31, Etta 29, both born in Kansas, married seven years. Claude is 5, Aletha M. 2, and Nina 1, all three born in California.

Etta B. Starkey, born April 28, 1879 in Kansas to Barkley Bond and a Thornton, died Feb 10 1912 in Long Beach, of typhoid fever.
Sarah Etta Starkey is buried in Long Beach # 26140251.
She had been in Butler County, Kansas in 1880, two months old, daughter of Barclay 44 and Elizabeth 34. Albert L. is 19, Mahlon D. 18, Rugh Ann 17, Robert B. 16, Flora Ellen 10, Miles H. 8, Samantha J. 3, Samuel L. 1.
Barclay Bond 1836-1898 is buried in Cherokee County Kansas # 35382168 "Married Sally Lancaster in 1850 -SHOULD BE 1859 in Indiana- Married Elizabeth Thornton"

January 24, 1918 "G. W. Starkey of Alvin, and Ida S. Ingram of Los Angeles, were united in marriage by County Judge Barker last Saturday. The Rattler understands they will make their home in the groom's ranch near Alvin."

The Colorado record has George age 40, Ida 41.

In 1920 Yuma County, Valley Precinct, George W. Starkey is 41, Ida E. 52, Claude B. 15, Aletha M. 12, Nina A. 11, and Verland G. 9.

Hattie Peterson, of Casper, Wyoming, widowed, born in Nebraska, married G.W. Starkey of Medford Oregon, widower a carpenter, son of J.B. Starkey of Iowa and Nancy Shively of Ohio, on July 2, 1927 in Whatcom County, Washington.
She was born in Clay County Nebraska May 7, 1882, daughter of Joseph Myer and Mary Margaret Eisenbise.

Her son is likely Franklin Ira Peterson born about 1908, dying Nov 25, 1999 in Lane County Oregon.
He's buried in Eugene # 25506542.
Franklin was born December 1, 1908 in Hastings Nebraska to Aaron and Hattie Meyers Peterson. He marrie d Thelma Bittleston in Harden Montana on June 28, 1930. He was the foreman of the press-room for the Sheridan Press in Wyoming and then press foreman at the Eugene Register-Guard, where he helped in the transition to offset production. Survivors include his wife, a son Ronald of Fernandina Beach, Florida.



In 1930 there's a George W. Starkey in Medford Oregon, 52, but he's born in Kansas. Hattie is 47 born in Nebraska and he daughter Florence Peterson 17 born in Nebraska.

He's almost certainly the George W. Starkey 1878-1933 buried in Medford # 51020166.

June 27, 1933 Medford "A collision last evening at 7:15 o'clock, near the Cummings gardens on the old Midway road, was reported today at the city police station. Mrs. Helen Newman of route two, and Hattie Starkey of 3211 West Tenth street were driving the two cars. Mrs. Nellie James of Ashland, riding in one of the cars, suffered a gash on the forehead."

Ida E. (Vanduzer) Starkey 1866-1943 is buried in Glendale, California, per # 85524464.

Nina Elberta Driftmyer, born Nov 7, 1908 in California, died in Sandusky Ohio January 27, 2000, father Starkey, mother Bond.
She's buried in Gibsonburg, Sandusky County # 11656586, with Paul H. Driftmyer 1902-1998 # 11656574.

Verland G. Starkey was born Sept 8, 1910 in California, mother Bond, and died December 27, 1973 in Yuma County.


There's a Hattie J. Bradshaw, May 1882-February 1972 buried in Medford # 66314276.
In 1940 she was married to Alfred Bradshaw 67 born in Arkansas. He was in California in 1935, Hattie in Medford. SH'e 57 born in Neb.

September 1948 "Illinois Residents Visit With Bradshaws
Dr. and Mrs. F. E. Gossard of Chicago and Dr. Gossard's parents, Mr. and Mrs H. A. Gossard, Lanark, Illinois, were guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Bradshaw, 44 North Orange street, last week. The elder Mrs. Gossard is a cousin of Mrs. Bradshaw. The travelers are en route to Los Angeles. Also guests at the Bradshaw home Thursday were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Morgan and daughters Clare LaVerne and Jean Ann, Alhambra. California, and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Morgan, Shady Cove."

September 21, 1952 "Eightieth Birthday Medford Resident Observed at Party
A. W. Bradshaw, 44 North Orange street, was honor guest Sunday, September 14, at a family gathering in his home which observed his 80th birthday. Mr. Bradshaw presided at the festive board by cutting a huge birthday cake as his children sang the traditional Happy Birthday.
Later in the afternoon his grandchildren sang to him as he opened gifts. During the afternoon Mr. Bradshaw's granddaughter, Miss Sarah Veronica O'Keeffe of Tulelake, announced her engagement to Patrick Kenneally of Tulelake. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam O'Keeffe. The wedding is to be November 15.
Members of Mr. Bradshaw's family present for the event were his wife and Mr. and Mrs. Baxter and Ronald, Mentone, Calif; Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Bradshaw and Gary, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ceroid and children, Dianne and Monte, grandchildren of the honored guest; Mrs. June Dunn and five children of Klamath Falls; Mr. and Dan O'Keeffe, Lena Mae and John, Tulelake; Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Peterson and Ronald, Eugene; Virgil Peterson and Miss Dorothy Hoskins, Grants Pass; Mrs. Ruth Rime, Jean and Allen, San Francisco. Other guests were Patrick Kenneally, Tulelake; Mrs. Florence Cashelin and Mrs. W. S"



In 1952 she was the maternal grandmother of "Sarah Veronica O Keelle, lulelnke, daughter o( Mr. and Mrs. Dun O'Keelle. became the bride of Patrick Joseph Kcmieally, Fort Klamath. "

Alfred W. Bradshaw 1872-1968 is also buried in Medford IOOF Cemetery # 66314273.
