Lucy (Douglass) Weed, Laird



Myron 47 and Lucy 35 Weed were in Iowa County in 1880, with Nellie 18, Etta 12, Victor 10, Arthur 6, and Myron 2.
Myron died April 8, 1907 in Franklin County, Nebraska.
Lucy Lavina Douglas Weed 1843-1933 died in Yuma County.
She was living with daughter Etta D. McClung, 50, with husband Lewis H. McClung 54 in 1920 Haigler, Nebraska, 76, widowed. Etta's son Homer A. Weed, 13 born in Nebraska is with them.

NELLIE
Alfred D. Leasure, born in Knox County, Ohio, married Nellie A. Weed, born about 1861 in Waukeegan, Lake County, Illinois, on October 11, 1885 in Hilton township, Iowa County, Iowa.


JUNIUS Homer and Preston Weed were the sons of Junius Weed, who was widowed in 1910 Blaine County, Oklahoma,
Julia (Condonier) Weed 1882-1910 is buried in Blaine County # 109571614.

Preston was with brother Myron in 1915 Phillips County, Kansas, age 33, with Gladys 22 and son Preston 12.

Junius Preston Weed was in Laird, Yuma County when registering for WWI, born January 27, 1882, farming, with Gladys Weed as nearest relative.
In 1920 Yuma County, Junius is 37, Gladys 23, both born in Iowa. Lyle L. 4 was born in Kansas, Dorothy 2 in Colorado.

J.P. and Gladys are farming in Dundy County, Nebraska in 1930, with Lyle 14, Dorothy 12, Louis 9, Charles 7, and Verna 1.

Junius' oldest son Preston was in Wyoming in 1920, single, and in 1930 is in Waterloo, Iowa, 25, married to Leona (Groby) Weed, 22. Preston is 2, Walter E. 1, and newborn Jean A., son born in Colorado.

Macon Missouri, 1951 "Mr. and Mrs. Preston Weed of Seattle, Wash., are the house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hob Burk- ! liart and children. Mrs. Weed before her recent marriage was Miss Dorothy Dean, a former Macon resident.:

They're living with Leona's mother Lillie, now married to Alfred Lambert.

Alfred Lambert was born on a farm near Bailey, Iowa, June 28, 1865, and passed away suddenly at his home in Waterloo on his sixty-seventh birthday, June 28, 1932.
Mr. Lambert grew to manhood on his father's farm, two miles north of McIntire. On April 6th, 1887, he was united in marriage to Mattie Kingsbury, of LeRoy, Minnesota. At this time he purchased a farm across the road from the elder Lambert homestead, which he operated with the aid of his faithful wife for 26 years. He retired at this time and moved to LeRoy, where he resided for many years.
They then moved to McIntire, where they resided until the death of the wife, October 17, 1925. He then made his home with his son, Leon, until his second marriage to Mrs. Groby of Spring Valley, Minnesota, on June 5, 1929. They moved to Waterloo and have resided there since.
In 1888 Mr. Lambert united with the Wayne Baptist church and all through his life has been a firm Christian and a faithful worker in the church. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; two daughters, Mrs. M.J. Murphy, LeRoy, Minnesota; and Mrs. H.J. Rowe, Minot, North Dakota; one son, L.K. Lambert, McIntire, Iowa; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; two step-daughters, Mrs. Terla Kenne, Spring Valley, and Mrs. Leona Weed, Waterloo; one step-son, Eugene Groby, Rochester, Minnesota, and nine grandchildren.
Leona's father Lewis Groby died in 1925, buried in Minnesota # 65178503.
Lillie 1866-1964 died in Seattle, but is buried in Minnesota # 65255924.

They're still in Waterloo in 1940, and moved to Oregon, where Junius died September 24, 1972 in Harney.
Leona died in Seattle, Washington April 29, 1994

Walter E. Weed born August 2, 1928, was in Vashon Washington in 1993, and Ocean Shores in 1995.
In 2016 Walter and Elone Weed brought cupcakes to a buffet in Ocean Shores.
"Walter began volunteering at the [then] Ocean Shores Interpretive Center in 1993. Prior to that, from 1947 until 1989, Walter was a draftsman for Boeing and lived on Vashon Island. He spent a number of those years under contract overseas with the Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) group, primarily in Germany. Many friends and contacts were made and maintained with people in Europe. Walter and Elone hosted foreign teachers in their home on Vashon, and have made three summer trips driving their motor home to the east coast, shipping it across the Atlantic, and picking it up on the other side for months of driving about Europe. They have participated in Volksmarches in over 75 European villages. Walter gave the Coastal Interpretive Center’s retail bookstore, Damon’s Outpost, its name. He sums up his experience at the Center like this: “When volunteering HERE, you’re also always learning.” Walter and Elone are also active in the Ocean Shores Crime Watch program and enjoy daily walks. Term: 10/2016 - 10/2019"

April 9, 1909 "Little Lewis Weed is on the sick list this week."

Junius is in Yuma County in 1940, 56, with Gladys 48, Lewis 19, Verna 12 born in Colorado, and Glen A. 8 in Nebraska. They were in Dundy County in 1935.

Lyle Edward Weed is buried in Anchorage # 29760637
Anchorage resident Lyle E. Weed, 88, died Nov. 29, 2003, at his home at Amazing Grace Family Living, surrounded by his family. A service of remembrance was held at Christ Community Church with the Rev. Jay Sample officiating. Burial was at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Weed was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Wray, Colo. He left home at an early age and eventually joined the military. He first came to Alaska during World War II when he was stationed on Adak Island. For many years, Mr. Weed was an Alaska Teamster, working as a truck driver, until his retirement. He was a member of Christ Community Church and a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. His family wrote: "He loved to play cards at the Elks Lodge. He and his wife, Nora, loved to go to Las Vegas in the winter. In the summer they loved to spend time at the homestead in Sterling and also fish the Kenai River for reds. Lyle loved to go for walks around Westchester Lagoon and watch the waterfowl -- and the times he pushed his great-grandson in the stroller was a bonus. He will be missed and we look forward to meeting again." Mr. Weed was preceded in death by his wife, Nora; daughter, Dorothea; brothers, Charles, Glenn and Louis; and sister, Verna.
He is survived by his sister, Dorothea Oestman of Wray; stepdaughter, Emily Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; stepsons, Richard Johnson of Cedar Rapids and Frank Garfield of Michigan; grandchildren and their spouses, Kelli and Jeff Toth of Anchorage, Jennie Johnson, Tawnie and Todd Kerska, and Michael Johnson, all of Cedar Rapids; great-grandsons, Matthew Toth, Austin Kerska and Jamie Johnson; and great-granddaughters, Katelynn Toth, Kaitlin Kerska and Marianne Johnson.

In 1880 Franklin County, Nebraska, Harry R. Remley, a painter, 32 and Artie 20, have Tina May six months.

Tina graduated from high school in Bloomington, Nebraska in 1898.
In 1900 Franklin County, Harry 53 was born in Maryland, Artie 41 in Illinois. Ina is 18, and Iva 4, both born in Nebraska. Artie's father Hiram Baker 82 was born in New York.
Iva E. Remley of Franklin County, Nebraska attended the Normal Institute in August 1917 in Steamboat Springs.

"Henry" Remley 1847-1922 is buried in Franklin County, per # 57637645.



August 1909 "M. H. Weed, Laird's hardware merchant was a Wray visitor Tuesday."

January 28, 1910 "Mrs. Weed was called to Bloomington Nebraska a few days ago by the serious illness of her sister."

Junius in 1910 Yuma County is next to Myron H. Weed, 44, Iowa and Rine E. 40 Nebraska. Lucila F. is 19, Herbert M. 16, and Lewis H. 12 born in Nebraska. Harold 4 was born in Kansas.


June 17, 1910 "Lucille Weed, the eight-year-old daughier of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Weed, who reside about 6 miles north of Laird, decided that she would visit one of three families living in Laird, and leavings note for her parents started on her journey. Her parents had been away and upon their return late in the evening were greatly distressed to find the note and that Luclle was missing. Search was made and about midnight the little one was found just outside the door of Wm. Burkett's store in Laird, sound asleep."

1915 "M.H. Weed, of Woodruff, Kansas, arrived in Laird Tuesday. He is looking after his property interests here."

Myron is farming in 1920 Yuma County, with Rine E., Lucille F. 19, Herbert M. 16, Lewis H. 12, and Harold 6.

In 1930 Yuma County, Myron is farming, 52, born in Iowa, with Tina E. 52 Nebraska. Lucille L. 31 and Harold 16 were born in Nebraska.

In 1940 Yuma County, all four are still farming.

Myron Weed 1879-1952 is buried in Wray, # 81492446, with Tina E. (Remley) Weed 1879-1958.
Herbert Weed is in Yuma County in 1940, 36, with Edna B. 35, Iola Mae 10, Nettie F. 7, Herbert 5, and Eileen 2, all born in Nebraska.
They're next to Junius P 56, Gladys W. 45, Lewis K. 19, Verna E. 12, and Glen A. 8.

Rosie Guernsey and Harold Weed were married in St. Francis, Kansas on January 15, 1944 and enjoyed 48 years of marriage until Harold’s death in 1992.

DORA

Dora Etta (Weed) McClung 1868-1953 is buried in Wray, # 81589861. So Dora is Myron Leasure's aunt, and Nellie his grandmother.
