John W. Mattern and Alice Morton married on November 26, 1890, recorded in Larimer County.
In 1900 Clear Creek County, Colorado, John Mattern is a mine blacksmith, born July 1861 in Pennsylvania, married nine years to Alice M. April 1868
Colorado. Phyllis October 1891 in Colorado and Morton W.
December 1892 in Pennsylvania.
In 1910 Denver, Alice Mattern is widowed, 42, a real estate dealer, with Phyllis 18 and Morton 17, all three born in COlorado.
PHYLLIS
Phyllis A. Mattern married William B. Doyle on January 29, 1913, recorded in Denver.
1913 Wray "Mrs. B. L. Doyle several miles north of
Laird, left yesterday afternoon for Denver for a visit
with her mother, Mrs. M. Mattern of that city."
"Death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bacil Doyle, who live on the Big D Ranch north of Laird, when their little infant daughter died last Tuesday. The little one had been seriously ill for some time, and a week ago yesterday Mr. and Mrs. Doyle brought the baby to Wray, where they might be nearer their physician. They were staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Bullard and it was here that the death occurred.
Phyllis Monica Doyle was born April 17, 1914 and died August 25, 1914, her short life covering only four months and one day. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Catholic Church, conducted by their pastor, Father J.L. Jolly. Interment was made in Grand View cemetery. The Rattler joins the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle in extending sympathy in their hour of sorrow.

Phyllis and William are in Yuma County Valley precinct in 1920. He's 28 born in Nebraska, Phyllis 27. They have Alice M.3.
1923 "Bernard John Doyle, two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Doyle of the Alvin neighborhood, passed away at the C. A. Bullard home in Wray Wednesday morning of this week.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon and the little body was laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery.
In addition to his mother and father, he leaves to mourn his death, a sister, Alice, and other relatives and friends.
He was born Aug. 16, 1921 and died Aug. 22, 1923, being two years and six days old at the time of his death. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the community.
In 1930 Yuma County, Bacil W. 3 and Phyllis A. both 36, have Alice M. 13. They're next to Eldon 'Bud" and Lois Spellman, so this is north of Laird.
In 1940, still next to the Spellman's, Basil and Phyllis are 48, and his brother Guy A. Doyle 56 born
in Nebraska is with them.
Phyllis 1891-1962 # 90190851 is buried in Wray, with William Bacil 'Bace' Doyle 1892-1973.
Alice M. Doyle married Donald K. McCauley on June 12, 1935, recorded in Larimer County, Coloraado.
In 1940 Don, 25 born in Maine and Alice M. 23 are tree trimmers in Laird, with Donna M. 3.
Alice is buried in Wray "Alice Marie (Doyle) McCauley passed away April 29, 2002 at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 28 days.
Alice Marie (Doyle) McCauley was born to Phyllis Mattern Doyle and William Bacil Doyle on May 26, 1916.
Alice attended elementary school at Alvin and Saint Joseph High School in Denver while living with her Grandmother.
Alice was married to Donald Kenneth McCauley on June 12, 1935 in Fort Collins; among other locations, they honeymooned at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver.
During World War II, Alice and Don lived in Seattle. Alice worked for Boeing Air Craft as a "Rosie The Riveter". Alice installed the feathering mechanism in the propeller assemblies of the B-25 and B-29 Bombers.
Alice and Don ranched, and farmed north of Laird until 1946 when they moved to Wray and opened McCauley Florists, which operated until 1950. Alice attended the School of Floral Design in Denver. Ironically, the first funeral they prepared flowers for was for Alice's Grandmother, Alice Morton Mattern. The flood that Wray experienced later, destroyed the business.
In 1950, they purchased the Alvin Store north of Wray and farmed, ranched and operated a tree service until 1962, when they moved back to Wray.
In 1964, they moved to Colorado Springs, and operated Templeton Gap Sod and Landscape until they retired to Haxtun in 1977.
Alice, after failing health, resided at Cederdale Nursing Home; she relocated 3 years ago to Denver at Shalom Park to be near her children.
Alice was a 3rd generation Colorado native, a member of The Territorial Daughters of Colorado and a direct descendant of John Morton, the 13th signer of The Declaration Of Independence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents and her oldest daughter, Donna McCauley Kroeger and by infants' sister, Phyllis and brother, Bernard. Also by infant grandson Shawn Ames.
Alice was a loving mother and friend. She was always there when she was needed. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her children and their spouses survive her; Gary and Sandy McCauley, Phyllis and Donald Ames, Carolyn and Randall DeBlieck; Grandchildren; Michael Lewis, Dawn McCauley, Kurt McCauley, Bryan Kroeger, Shannon Ames, Brant DeBlieck, Stewart Ames and Breann DeBlieck.
Great Grandchildren; Kassie Kroeger, Kendall Kroeger, Marissa DeBlieck, Taylor McCauley, Gunner Kroeger, Kayla DeBlieck and Derek McCauley. "
ALICE
January 1917 "Mrs. Alice Matern of fifteen miles
north of Wray returned to her home Tuesday after a
week's visit with her friends, Dr. and Mrs. C. M. Worth
of Vernon."
In 1930 Denver, Alice is 62, a housekeeper for 87-year-old Andrew Branstetter.
Alice was living alone in 1940 Denver, 71, widowed.
MORTON
Morton proved up 320 acres in section 30, 4N 43W in 1919.
In 1923 Morton William Mattern of Wray, made application for Stock claiming
another tract in section 19 and 30, with witnesses Alice M. Mattern, Charles A. Bullard, E.R. Henderson, and Joseph H. Lenertz, all of Wray.
In 1919 Alice and Morton were witnesses for the claim of Joseph Lenertz (neighbor of Morton).
May 15, 1919 "Mrs. Doyle and Mrs. Homer Seigler of Alvin were Monday shoppers in Wray."
In 1920 Yuma County, Morton is 27, with Alice 51 widowed living with him. He has a hired man.
In 1922 "Mrs. A.M. Mattern of north of Wray returned Friday from a week's visit with Dr. and Mrs. C. M. Worth of Yuma."
1922 "Mrs. A. M. Mattern and son entertained the
following guests at a Thanksgiving dinner at their home
20 miles north of Wray: Dr. and Mrs. Worth of Yuma, Mr.
and Mrs. B. W. Doyle and children of Laird
neighborhood, and Mrs. Chas. Bullard and children
of Wray."
1923 "Big wild west show will be given by the Waunetar ,
Community Hall Association at the Mattern ranch two miles
east of Wauneta at 1 p. m., Colorado day, August 1st.
Dance at the hall in the evening.

In 1923 Dessie Drommond was teaching the first and second grade classes in Laird.
Morton married Dessie M. Drommondon July 27, 1924 in Yuma County.
Dessie was in Laird precinct in 1920, 19,
with Alva H. 44 and Daisy B. 41. Orval R. is 17.
The Drommonds were in Laird in 1910, too.
Alva H. Drommond had married Daisy McGinnis on April 23, 1900 in Yuma County.
Morton and Dessie had Morton W. Jr. on September 6, (1924 per SSDI, 1925 per Navy records)in Wray. He died Marh 10, 1999.
In 1930 Jefferson County, Colorado, Morton is a truck drier - this census said he was born in Colorado, with Dessie 29 in Nebraska, and Morton 4 in Colorado.

In 1940 Jefferson County, Morton is 47, a laborer, with Dessie 39,
Morton Jr. 14 and Jack 3.
On the same page is Alva H. Drommond 64 born in Illinois and Daisy B. 61 Iowa.
Morton registered for WWII in Jefferson County, born at Georgetown, Colorado Decemer 25, 1893. His reference was Neil Horan, an attorney in Denver. He lived at 1955 Broadway, Denver, where he had a "Mort's Auto Park.
Morton had a mental incompetency case in Denver in 1946.
Morton is buried in Denver 1892-1952, # 91408357, on the same stone as
John 1860-1908 and Alice 1868-1946.
Dessie, born March 6, 1901, died in April 1974.
