Charles and Lettie (Miller) Pickle, Copper Kettle


In 1880 Furnas County, Nebraska Charles is 2, with J. W. Pickle 38 a postmaster born in Michigan, , Helen P. 32 in New York, Mary A. 11 and Milton S. 9 born in Iowa, Mariah E. 4 in Kansas.

June 10, 1899 "Charles and John Pickle, who are visiting relatives in Cuba, Kansas, will start on the return trip about the 15th instant. They will make the trip on their bicycles, and are scheduled to stop in Deuel county for a short visit. It would be safe to bet that will not be the only stop."

June 1899 "Charley and John Pickle are expected to arrive home about the last of June."


Lettie M. Miller, 19, married Charley Pickle on March 18, 1900 in Vernon, Colorado.
"Charles Pickle and Lettie Miller at the home of the bride’s parents Sunday, March 18, at 10 a. m. Rev. S. E. Ellis officiating, in the presence of a few chosen friends. The bride was be-icmingly dressed and looked heautifull. These young people have grown up in our midst and are well known and loved by all and have the universal good wishes for a happy life. They will make their home at the Pickle ranch on the Arickaree."

They're farming in Glendale precinct in 1900, Charley born Jan 1878 in Kansas, Lettie Feb 1881 in Nebraska.

December 1900 "Chas. Pickle has had his share of bad luck. He lost ten head of cattle."

1902 Wray

February 1902 "W. W. Cunningham and Chas. Pickle will hold their public sale together at the Dr. Hammond farm 3 1/2 miles southwest of Wray."

July 1904 "Chas. Pickle, the Vernon iron moulder, was in town last Friday and shied a dollar into the right spot.:

1905 "Mrs. Chas. Pickle and two children visited at Vernon a short time and Wednesday she departed for Cuba, Kansas. "

In 1910 Washington County, Kansas, Charlie is farming, 32, born in Kansas, married ten years to Lettie M. 29 bonr in Nebraska. Phyllis M. is 8, Beulah R. 6, both born in Colorado, Joseph W. 4 and Ethel C. 2 both born in Kansas.

1915 "Chas. Pickle visited Wray a few days the past week. Mr. Pickle is livng at Willard Colorado, where he is in the barber business. Willard is a new town on the Cheyenne line of the Burlington and Mr. Pickle reports the country in a prosperous condition with a big crop."

In 1920, Charles is a barber in Denver, 41, with Lettie 38, Tryllis 18, Beulah 16, Joseph 14, Ethel 11, and Harriet 2, born in Colorado.

In 1930 Fort Morgan, Charles is a barber, 52, Lettie M. 49, Joseph W. 24 also a barber, Ethel C. 22 a stenographer, and harriet R. 12.

1931 "Mrs. Chas. Pickle and daughter, Mrs. Park of Fort Morgan, and Mrs. Robert Altig of Boulder, came to Wray Monday to visit their mother, Mrs. Rebecca Miller, who has been ill. Mrs. Altig remained in Wray at the home of her brother, Arch Miller."

1938 "The sons and daughters of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Miller, who were pioneer citizens of this community, met at a family reunion last Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Parks in Fort Morgan. Eight brothers and sisters journeyed to Fort Morgan from their widely scattered homes to spend one brief day together, and what a delightful day it 'Was too. It is quite remarkable that eight brothers and sisters with the oldest 72 and the younges 57, could be gotten together for even one day. It was a happy day, a day of reminiscing, a day when the Miller brothers and sisters traveled together back over memory lane to the days of their youth. It was the first such meeting in 28 years. The following brothers and sisters were present: Mrs. Lettie Pickle of Denver, Asa and Arch Miller of Wray, John and Jim Miller of Boulder, Mrs. Robert Altig of Eldorado Springs, Will Miller of Compton, Calif., and Mrs. Laura McEvers of Fort Lupton, Colo. Of course there were many others at the reunion too including wives and husbands, nephews and nieces and was a very happy day for all present."

In 1940 Denver, Charles is a carpenter, 62, Lettie 59, Ethel 32.

1957 "A graveside burial service, conducted by the Rev. Willis Wisehart, was held at Glendale cemetery at Vernon Monday for William Miller, who died at San Marino, Calif. He was 85 years old. Funeral services had previously been held at San Marino. Mr. Miller, who is a brother of Asa Miller of Eckley, lived as a youth In the Vernon community. He had spent the greater part of his life in California. Survivors Include his wife, Mrs. Christina Miller; his brother, Asa Miller, and two sisters, Mrs. Lettie Pickle of Denver and Mrs. Laura McEvers of San Marino, Calif."

1959 Wray "Mrs. Asa Miller returned home Tuesday after visiting her daughters, Mrs. Lela Froid and family at Fort Collins and Mrs. Irene Egeland of Boulder, and sister, Mrs. Susie Riley, and family of Denver and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Pickle of Denver."

Charles is buried in Denver 1878-1967 # 93757609, with Lettie 1881-1987 # 93757648.

ETHEL

Ethel Charlotte Pickle 1908-2006 is buried in Denver # 93757738,

HARRIET

Harriet Pickle and John M. Shonsey married in Fort Morgan on December 29, 1936.

They're in Hardin, Montana in 1940, John M. 24, Harriet 22, and margaret 2.

In 1951 Omaha, John is vice-presiden of the Live Stock Naional Bank with Harriet living 15 202 S. 71st.

1972 St. Mary's College severed formal ties with the church "John M. Shonsey, an Omaha hanker and chairman of the college's new board of directors, "

1972 Omaha "The Oakland Feeding Corp. is constructing two feedlots capable of handling 13,500 head of cattle in Bassett and Gresham, John M. Shonsey, president of the Oakland, Iowa, firm, said. Shonsey said that when the lots are completed in three to four months, the company will have feedlots capable of handling 40,000 head of cattle. The firm already has a feedlot in Oakland. Each of the new feedlots will cost $300,000 to $400,000, Shonsey said."

Harriett Rita Shonsey died Sept 19, 1990, buried in Omaha # 155297764.

John is buried in Omaha, dying August 1991 # 155297765.

BEULAH

Beulah R. Pickle and Guy R. Pack married in Fort Morgan in May 20, 1926.

They're in Fort Morgan in 1930, Guy 28 and Beulah 26, and in 1940.

Beulah 1903-2003 is buried in Fort Morgan # 68977692, with Guy 1901-1982 # 21293677 "son of Thomas B. Park and Grace E. Benson."

TRYLLIS

Tryllis M. and Guy Mitchell divorced in Morgan County, Colorado in 1924.

Tryllis Mitchel, 23, married John G. (Gill) Oldaker on July 3, 1925 in Littleton, Colorado.

In 1930 Fort Morgan, Tryllis is 28, Earnest D. 7, Bonnie J. 3, and newborn Joyce A. born in Nebraska.

They divorced in Denver in 1933. (John is buried in Boulder 1892-1969 # 11099959.)

1953 "Mrs. Charles Pickle and daughter Phyllis Oldaker of Denver and Mr. and Mrs. A. J~. Miller of Eckley were luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Walbum on Memorial day."

Tryllis M. Oldaker 1901-1980 is buried in Denver # 90071913, son Ernest Dale Oldaker 1922-1950 also buried there.
"Mrs. Bertha Miller went to Denver on Friday to attend funeral services for Dale Oldaker, 27 year old grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pickle. Mrs. Pickle is a sister-in-law of Mrs. Miller."

Bonnie Oldaker and Ralph Manning, Jr. married in Carson City, Nevada on May 31, 1949.

Ralph, an oil driller, and Bonnie, a typist, are living at 450 N. Elk in Casper, Wyoming.

In 1968 Denver, Bonnie Manning is a secreary at AAA, living at 1085 Pearl.
Bonnie and Ralph L. Manning divorced in Brevard County, Florida on April 2, 1993.

JOSEPH

In 1940 Denver, Joseph is a railway postal clerk, with Wilhelmina E. both 34, Joseph W. 4, and Charles D. 2.

Joseph is buried in Littleton 1905-1999 # 141889816, with Wilhelmina E. 1905-1993.

1978 "Joseph W Pickle Jr., professor of religion at Colorado College,"
