CLAUDE'S FAMILY

In 1880 Fulton County, Illinois, John S. McCoy is 36, Mary 34, John 8, Claude 2, and month-old Nellie.

"Claude was born in 1878 in Illinois and felt the call to cowboy in the west. After trying Missouri and Nebraska he arrived in Idalia in 1900 where he worked for the Shields, Davisson and Fox ranches as well as for Bill Pyle, the C12 ranch and others."

In 1900 Yuma County, Claude is a farm laborer, working for Thomas and Melcena E. Fox.

March 9, 1906 "John McCoy, who with his brother Claude, was called to Illinois about two weeks ago by telegram announcing the death of their fathur, returned homo Wednesday. Claude will not return until about the twentieth."

CLAUDE AND ROSETTA

Rosetta Gerber and Claude McCoy were married October 25, 1903, at the home of the bride's parents John and Elizabeth Gerber north of Idalia. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Ed Th. Bettex, father of Harald Bettex.

Claude proved up 320 acres in section 20, 3S 44W in 1911, and cash-claimed 40 acres in section 5 in 1922.


Fred Burtick filed for land in 22, 3S 44W in 1917, witnesses George L. Jones, Claude E. McCoy, Aamuel E. Oliver, and Arthur Bartlett.

In 1930 Idalia precinct, Claude is 51, born in Ilinois, Rosette 45 in Switzerland, with Susannah M. 23, John S. 20, Robert E. 18, Leo G. 16, Nellie O. 13, Alta G. 10, and William C. 4.

Next household is John H. Gerber 67 and Elizabeth 66, both born in Switzerland.

June 1942 "Mr. and Mrs. John Lippert moved Monday from their place southwest of town to the place in east Wray which Mr. Lippert recently purchased from the Ben Shier estate. The Lipperts have redecorated the interior of their new home and are planning improvements to the grounds that will make them a most desirable residence property. The Lippcrts recently sold their 860-acre ranch on the river six miles southwest of town to Claude McCoy, and the latter family moved to the place as the Lippcrts vacated."

October 1942 "Mr. and Mrs. Claude E. McCoy of west of Wray entertained last Sunday in celebration of their thirty-ninth and Mr. and Mrs. George Detert's 3rd wedding anniversaries. Mrs. Deterts is their youngest daughter. Those attending the affair besides the guests of honor were Mr. and Mrs. George Thiede of Denver, Mr. Mrs. Vergle Mcfarland, Mr. and Mrs. Bob McCoy, Miss Margaret Smith and Leo and Billy McCoy. Another son PFC John S. McCoy who is stationed at Camp Pickett, Virginia, was unable to attend. "

December 1950 "Mr. and Mrs. Claude McCoy had their Christmas dinner on Sunday. Their guests were Mr. and Mrs. John McCoy of Trinidad, Mr. and Mrs. William McCoy, Mr. and Mrs. Vergle McFarland, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller and Leo McCoy."

"Mr. and Mrs. Claude McCoy celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, October 25, 1953, with a family dinner at their home in east Wray. Present were their seven children for the first time since 1944.
Rosetta Gerber and Claude McCoy were married October 25, 1903, at the home of the bride's parents north of Idalia. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Ed Th. Bettex, father of Harald Bettex. Yuma county has been the home of the McCoys all of their married life.
Centering the dinner table was a beautifully decorated wedding cake brought from Denver by Mr. and Mrs. Bob McCoy and Donnie. Mr. and Mrs. George Thiede of Denver brought the ice cream for dessert and the other children prepared the dinner. They were Mr. and Mrs. Vergle McFarland, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller, Mr. and Mrs. John McCoy and Judy Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Bill McCoy and Leo McCoy."

July 1958 "Mrs. Claude McCoy's niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Josephson and children of Canton, Illinois, came on Friday for an overnight visit and, in their honor, Mrs. McCoy had a get-together of her family that evening. Included were the John McCoys of Idalia, the Bill McCoys of Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Lynn of Palo Alto, Calif., the Leo McCoy family and the Archie Millers."

Claude Elmer McCoy 1878-1956 is buried in Wray # 65068719, with Rosetta A. McCoy 1884-1988 # 65069021.

"Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Lockwood Mortuary for Claude E. McCoy, a long-time resident of this area, who died Wednesday of last week. The Rev. W. S. Ickler conducted the services for Mr. McCoy and burial followed in Grandview cemetery. His passing removed a widely known former rancher and farmer who was held in high regard by many friends and whose work and activities left an enduring mark on the development of the community.
Mr. McCoy, son of John S. and Mary Pardun McCoy, was born April 24, 1878, near Farmington, Illinois. He died February 29, 1956, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and five days. He came to Coloraio in March of 1900 and worked on cattle ranches until his marriage to Rosetta A. Gerber on October 25, 1903, when they established a home on the Arickaree River south of Vernon where their eight children were born. His interests were farming and cattle ranching until his retirement in 1948 when he moved into Wray.
Surviving him are his wife Rosetta McCoy of Wray; his children, Susannah Thiede of Denver, John S. McCoy of Vernon, Robert E. McCoy of Denver, Leo G. McCoy of Wray, Nellie McFarland and Alta Miller of Wray, and William C. McCoy of Vernon. One daughter, Maude, died in infancy. Also surviving him are two brothers, John L. McCoy of Denver and Harry E. McCoy of Peoria, Illinois, and five grandchildren.

"Among those who came from a distance to attend the Claude McCoy funeral services were John L. McCoy, Max McCoy, Mrs. Harold Jantzen, Mrs. Mabel Baylor, Chester Baylor, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Perkins, and Mrs. Howard Ray, all of Denver, Mrs. Richard Binder of Golden, Mrs. Claude Johnson of Fairplay, and Ernest McCoy of Colorado Springs."

MAUDE

Maude, born and dying in 1905, is buried in the Lucas Cemetery.

In 1940 Yuma County, ranching, John S. 30 and Leo 26 , have George Deterts 23 and Alta 20 with them.

September 1945 " John S. McCoy is in the service stationed at Luzon in the Philippines. "

December 1942 "Miss Letha Heiny of Grand Junction accompanied her sister, Miss Freda Heiny, to Wray when she returned from spending Christmas in Denver. She returned to Denver Wednesday."

April 1944 Palisade, Colorado "Miss Letha M. Heiny and Earl Brubaker were married Friday evening in Denver. Mrs. Brubaker is the third grade teacher in the Clifton schools. Mr. Brubaker is in the merchant marines and is enjoying a 30-day furlough, after serving in the south Pacific. The couple are well known here and their many friends extend them congratulations and best wishes. "

June 1944 "Mrs. Earl Brubaker of Grand Junction has been a guest of her sister, Miss Freda Heiny, since Saturday. Mrs. Brubaker, who la returning to her home today, accompanied Miss Heiny to Wray when she returned from attending a State Health Conference in Denver. "

June 1945 "Miss Freda Heiny, county health nurse of Wray, was transacting business in Eckley on Friday."

"Miss Freda Heiny, former county health nurse for Yuma county, and John S. McCoy were married at Idaho Springs on March 26, 1948, it has been learned by friends of the couple at Wray. No details of the marriage have been received. The couple left after the ceremony for Luray, Virginia, where they have established their home. Mrs. McCoy is continuing her public health nursing and Mr. McCoy is employed in a repair shop in that city."

1950 Wray "Mr. and Mrs. John McCoy of Trinidad came Friday evening to spend the weekend with relatives and friends. Mrs. McCoy is the former Fredia Heiny. county nurse."

November 22, 1951 "Mrs. Claude McCoy returned home Sunday night from spending ten days with her children in Denver and at the home of her son, -John McCoy, in Pueblo where she became acquainted with her new granddaughter, Judy Ann McCoy."


July 19, 1956 "Mr. and Mrs. John McCoy became the parents of a son, John Claude, on Saturday. The mother is the former Freda Heiny. who was public health nurse before her marriage. She and the baby returned home on Wednesday."

In 1963 the farm and ranch tour included " Stop No. 5, following the lunch hour, will be at the John McCoy ranch seven miles north of Idalia to view McCoy's cow-calf operation."

John Shaw McCoy is buried in Wray 1910-2001, # 65068850, with Freda H. 1912-2000, # 65068815.

NELLIE

April 15, 1937 "Virgil McFarland and Miss Nellie McCoy were united in marriage April 10th. Their many friends wish them a very happy and prosperous married life. "

"A heart attack, suffered while he was doing chores at his farm home, claimed the life of Vergle Earl McFarland, widely known former of southwest of Wray, Friday. It was a sad surprise to his family and his many friends in this community where he was very well liked, and a throng of friends filled the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon to attend funeral services in his memory. Rev. W. S. Ickler conducted the funeral rites that were followed by burial in Grandview cemetery.
Mr. McFarland was a son of James and Lucy McFarland and was born at West Plains, Mo., on December 8, 1913. He died at his home near Wray on July 2, 1954, at the age of 40 years, 6 months and 24 days. He came to Colorado with his parents in 1920.
On April 10, 1937, he was united in marriage to Nellie McCoy at Burlington. The McFarlands have lived on the farm which is their present home for ten years.
Surviving Mr. McFarland are his wife, Nellie; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James McFarland of Eckley; three brothers, Jesse McFarlend of Wray, Luther McFarland of Denver and Roy McFarland of Vernon; two sisters, Mollie Perkins and Fannie McCoy, both of Denver."

"Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Robert Bill, were held Monday morning, April 9, 1962 at 10:30 o'clock at the Eckley Presbyterian church for Mrs. Lucy E. McFarland, a resident of Yuma county since 1920, who died at Wray April 6. Interment was at the Eckley cemetery.
Lucy Elizabeth Burroughs was born April 9. 1881, at West Plains Mo. In 1906 she was married to James W. McFarland at West Plains. She and her husband came to Colorado, settling in Yuma county, in 1920 and she had made her home here since that time.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. McFarland, two of whom preceded their mother in death. Mr. McFarland died in 1955. Surviving Mrs. McFarland are the following children: Jessie I. of Eckley. Roy W. of Derby, Luther H. of Arvada, and Fanney M. McCoy of Denver; six grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren."

August 1952 "Mr. and Mrs. Billy McCoy spent Wednesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Vergle McFarland. "

1954 "Mrs. Nellie McFarland, administratrix of the estate of her late husband, Vergle McFarland, is advertising a public auction of the livestock, farm machinery, feed, miscellaneous farm equipment and household goods at the place five miles southwest of Wray for next Thursday, July 22. The offering includes 35 head of cattle, including a dairy herd. The sale will start at 11 a. m. with the Eckley PTA serving lunch. Phil Price and Troil Welton are the auctioneers and Roy Thompson is clerk."

June 1955 "Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller were in Greeley Wednesday of last week to attend the commencement exercises at Colorado State College of Education where Mrs. Miller's sister, Mrs. Nellie McFarland, received her degree. Mrs. McFarland returned home the following day with Mr. and Mrs. Miller."

November 1955 "Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Miller of Fort Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. William McCoy and girls were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller on Wednesday of last week at a dinner observing the birthday of Archie Miller."

October 1958 "Mrs. Nellie McFarland, who has made her home in California for the past year, was married on December 21 to W. T. Lynn of Palo Alto, Calif., according to word received recently by relatives and friends. Mrs. Lynn will continue her work as occupational therapist at the Veterans Hospital in Palo Alto. Her husband is also employed at the hospital."

July 1958 "Mrs. Claude McCoy's niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Josephson and children of Canton, Illinois, came on Friday for an overnight visit and, in their honor, Mrs. McCoy had a get-together of her family that evening. Included were the John McCoys of Idalia, the Bill McCoys of Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Lynn of Palo Alto, Calif., the Leo McCoy family and the Archie Millers."

WILLIAM

September 1945 "William C. McCoy of Vernon has been awarded the Combat Infantry Badge for outstanding achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on Okinawa. McCoy, an automatic rifleman with the 306th Infantry, 77th (Statue of Liberty) Division, saw his first action against the enemy on Okinawa. He was inducted into the miltary service September 21, 1944 and received his basic training at Camp Hood, Texas. He joined the 77th Division in May 1945, during the battle of Okinawa. PfC. McCoy is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude E. McCoy of west of Wray. Prior to his induction he was in partnership with his brother, Leo, on a ranch. He also has a brother, John S. McCoy, in the service stationed at Luzon in the Philippines. He is authorized to wear the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with one battle star, expert marksmanship medal and an overseas stripe in addition to the Combat Infantry Badge."

William Claude McCoy, of Vernon, and Estelle Staggs, of Wray, married in Yuma County on June 24, 1949.

Beulah had been married to Frank Reese in 1939, when her mother died in South Carolina.
Frank was 29, divorced in 1940 Columbia County, South Carolina, with his parents Ben 52 and Janie 50.
Grandchildren of Ben and Janie are Annie Ruth Reese, 5, and Eugene Reese 3.

August 1952 "Mr. and Mrs. Billy McCoy spent Wednesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Vergle McFarland. "

March 1954 "Mr. and Mrs. William McCoy of Vernon are announcing the adoption of a two weeks' old baby daughter. The little miss has been named Deborah Kay McCoy."

April 1955 "Mr. and Mrs. William McCoy have adopted their second daughter, Laura Lea, who is less than a month old. Their other daughter Deborah Kay is thirteen months. "

November 1955 "Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Miller of Fort Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. William McCoy and girls were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller on Wednesday of last week at a dinner observing the birthday of Archie Miller."

October 1962 Kirk items "Mrs. Nellie McCoy of Denver has spent the past few days visiting her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Martin. "
"Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Martin and their daughter, Mrs. William McCoy of Denver, visited at the William Kechter Sr. home on Friday evening."
"The funeral services for Clifford T. Andrews, who died June 18, 1962 were held at the Wray Christian church at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon, June 21, with the Rev. G. Arland Johnson officiating. Military honors were paid him at the interment service held at Glendale cemetery at Vernon. He had served four years in the army.
Mr. Andrews was born on February 25, 1917, at Vernon, and spent his entire life in that community. He grew up on his parents' farm and attended the Mt. Hope school.
He was married on December 11, 1943, to Buela Newman at Aiken, S. C. and there are two sons, Gary and Terry, born of this marriage.
In the community where he spent his life and where he was a farmer, Mr. Andrews was held in high regard as a loving husband, devoted father, and a respected member of the community. Surviving him are his wife and sons; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Andrews; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Shaffer and Mrs. Jim Karl of Downey, Calif.; four brothers, Archie of Yuma, Harry of Wray, and Alvin and Henry of Vernon. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Murtle and Mrs. Gladys Rhoads, and by a brother, Alfred."

"Funeral services for Mrs. Beulah Andrews, whose death occurred at Eckley on April 25, 1963 were held at the First Christian Church in Wray Monday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Kent M. Savage with burial following in Glendale cemetery at Vernon. The Lockwood Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Andrews was found dead in bed Friday morning. She had apparently died the previous night. Cause of her death was not immediately determined.
She was born February 29, 1920, at Grovetown, Ga. and died at the age of 43 years, one month and 26 days. She was married to Clifford Andrews on October 11, 1943, at Aiken, S. C. Her husband preceded her in death on June 18, 1962.
Mrs. Andrews had four children, Mrs. Ruth Casey of Grovetown, Ga., Gary Don and Terry Dean Andrews of Vernon, and Gene Reese who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Viola Newman Sweatman, 103, wife of the late Phillip Sweatman, entered into rest Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Legacy Personal Care Home, Evans, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Grove First Baptist Church, Grovetown, Ga. with the Reverend Steve Adams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Sweatman was born in Columbia County to the late James H. and Rachael Newman. She was a Civil Service retiree and a member of the Grove First Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved fishing, her flower and vegetable gardens and was a great cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Sweatman and son Thomas L. Huffman.
Survivors include her son James E. Huffman, Grovetown; a special friend and companion Maxine Coursey; four grandchildren, eight grea

"Norma June Arellano passed away April 17, 2014. Norma was born to Willam and Nellie McCoy June 16, 1940. Private services were held at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery."

September 1954 "A popular and widely known Wray couple are honeymooning in the Black Hills and other points of interest. Mrs. Lela Edmunds and Leo McCoy left Wray Wednesday of last week. They were married at some spot that day and will spend the next two weeks vacationing before returning to Wray. Mrs. Edmunds' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Funk, received word that the couple had married and were having a nice trip, but no details of the ceremony have been learned by Wray friends.
Mrs. McCoy has been employed as receptionist at the Wray Clinic for some time. Mr. McCoy, who has ranching interests south of Wray, has been employed in Wray in recent months. The couple plan to establish their home in the residence where Mrs. Edmunds now lives."

"Mr. and Mrs. Leo McCoy became the parents of a son, Patrick Leo, Wednesday morning, November 14, 1956. The boy was born at the Community hospital in Wray."

September 1957 "The Leo McCoy family has moved to the former Richard Graham home on West Fourth street. They have purchased the home from the Grahams who have moved to Fort Collins. It was remodeled a year ago and is one of Wray's nice residence properties.

July 1958 "Mrs. Claude McCoy's niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Josephson and children of Canton, Illinois, came on Friday for an overnight visit and, in their honor, Mrs. McCoy had a get-together of her family that evening. Included were the John McCoys of Idalia, the Bill McCoys of Vernon, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Lynn of Palo Alto, Calif., the Leo McCoy family and the Archie Millers."

October 1958 "Mrs. Leo McCoy and daughter, Kathy and Mrs. McCoy's father, Claude Funk Sr., Mrs. Gladys Coad and Ronnie were Denver visitors on Thursday."

1959 Wray "A deal was made last week in which Leo McCoy bought the Star Liquor store from the William Hutchins estate. The liquor store was operated as a corporation and Mr. McCoy bought the stock of the corporation. He began operating the business as its proprietor Monday, although the completion of the deal will be pending until the transaction is approved by the court."


"Lela Elaine Funk, daughter of Claude L. and Jessie Faye Funk, was born on December 27, 1918 in Nolan, New Mexico. Her family moved to Wray when Lela was 2. She was a Wray resident until her earthly life ended on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at age 93. Lela graduated from Wray High School in 1936. She worked for a time as a secretary for her future husband, John Russell (Pete) Edmunds. They were married on May 26, 1940 and their daughter Kathy was born in 1946. Lela was widowed in 1951 when Pete succumbed to complications from surgery.
Lela worked at the Wray Clinic as a receptionist then met and married Leo McCoy on September 1,1954. Their son Patrick was born in 1956. Leo and Lela owned and operated the Star Liquor Store in Wray for over 40 years. Lela also worked as a bookkeeper for Coad's Florist and later in retail sales at Ken Lane Clothing where her skills as a seamstress also allowed her to provide alterations. Lela and Leo belonged to a bridge club and Lela was an active member of Sorosis for many years. The couple enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and traveling with friends throughout their 52 year marriage until Leo passed away on April 23, 2006. Lela and her daughter, Kathy, were best friends and were blessed to be able to spend the last years of her life together.
Lela was active in volunteer work delivering Meals on Wheels, enjoyed lunch with friends at Meet and Eat at the Wray Senior Community Center, and exercised three times a week at the Wray Hospital Adult Fitness program for many years. Lela was an avid reader throughout her life and was a regular patron at the library. Lela was well known for her warmth, friendship, quick smile, and caring nature ... she was a truly kind and gentle soul.
Lela was preceded in death by her infant sister Elsie Vesta, her parents, brother Claude Funk and his wife Mary, sister Francis McKee and her husband Ed, sister Mary Faye Twiss, sister Doris Lewton and her husband Verle, and husbands "Pete" Edmunds and Leo McCoy.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy Edmunds of Wray, son Pat McCoy of Houston, TX, grandson Chad Goto, his wife Krista, and two great grandsons, Aiden and Evan Goto of Goodyear, AZ, and brother-inlaw, Howard Twiss of Sterling. She will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and their families, as well as the many friends she touched throughout the years.
A memorial celebration of her life was held on Wednesday at the Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home, followed by a private graveside inurnment at Grandview Cemetery in Wray."

Leo George McCoy 1913-2006 is buried in Wray # 89156306.

A wedding which will be of interest to readers of the Gazette, took place at the Wray Court House, December 19, 1936 at 2:30 p. m. when Miss Fannie McFarland, of Eckley, became the bride of Mr. Bob McCoy of Idalia, with Judge I. L. Barker, officiating.
Attendants were Miss Nellie McCoy, sister of the groom and Mr. Vergle McFarland, brother of the bride. The bride wore an afternoon frock of Copen blue crepe trimmed with black accessories and the bridesmaid wore an afternoon frock of wine with gray accessories, while the groom and best man wore business suits of navy blue.
The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim McFarland, of south of Eckley. She is a very talented and attractive young lady. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude McCoy, of Idalia, and a prosperous young rancher and farmer.
The newlyweds left early Sunday morning for the Capitol City where they will spend a short honeymoon. On their return they will be at home to their many friends on a ranch northwest of Idalia. Their many friends extend heartiest congratulations. "

Alta was married to George Deterts, then Archie Miller. Archie was first married to Claudia Cuney.

"Two members of the popular set of Wray and Vernon were joined in marriage at St. Francis, Kan., Oct. 25, 1939 at 1:30 in the afternoon by Rev. E. M. Mueller at the Lutheran parsonage in that city. Alta Grace McCoy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude McCoy of south of Vernon, became the wife of George Deterts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Deterts, also of the Vernon community.
The couple went quietly to St. Francis unaccompanied by friends, were married in a solemn ceremony and returned to Wray. They chose for their wedding date the birthday of the bridegroom and the 36th anniversary of the marriage of the bride's parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Deterts will make their home in Wray in the Conrad apartments. He will be helped by his wife in the Victor and George cafe of which he is a partner.
The Gazette extends its best wishes to the newlyweds, joining the many other friends of Mr. and Mrs. Deterts.
Mr. and Mrs. Deterts were born and have lived in the Vernon community all their lives."

May 1928 "Miss Claudie Cuney, daughter of Ross Cuney of Wray and Mr. Archie J. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Miller of east of Wray, were married last Thursday noon in Wray, by Judge I. L. Barker. The newlyweds will make their home in the residence in west Wray recently vacated by the Arley Cuney family. Mr. Miller is employed by the Sales and Service Garage as bookkeeper. Both the young people are well known and popular. Mr. Miller was a member of this year's graduating class. Mrs Miller has been a popular student of Y. C. H. S. this winter. Their friends are extending them congratulations^ and best wishes. "

1937 "Mrs. Claudia Miller has purchased a beauty parlor at Brighton and she took charge of the same the first of this week. Mrs. Miller, accompanied by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Cuney, went to Brighton Monday. Mrs. Miller has just recently completed a beauty course."

In 1940 Yuma County, ranching, John S. 30 and Leo 26 , have George Deterts 23 and Alta 20 with them.

"March 22, 1949, at Brighton, Colo., Miss Muree Miller, daughter of Mrs. Claudia Miller became the bride of Glenn L. Palkowsky, son of Mrs. George Wathen of Ft. Logan. Rev. R. D. Lowden officiated at the double ring eeremony performed by candlelight at the First Christian church of Brighton. The bride chose a grey tweed suit with red and grey accessories and carried an orchid arranged on a white prayer book. She was given in marriage by her grandfather, Mr. Ross Cuney of Wray, Colorado. Miss Marilyn Miller, sister of the bride was maid of honor. "

June 1955 "Mr. and Mrs. Archie Miller were in Greeley Wednesday of last week to attend the commencement exercises at Colorado State College of Education where Mrs. Miller's sister, Mrs. Nellie McFarland, received her degree. Mrs. McFarland returned home the following day with Mr. and Mrs. Miller."

1962 "Miss Marilyn Miller, daughter of Mrs. Claudia Miller of Brighton and Archie Miller of Wray, was married to Jack F. Simshauser of Colorado Springs at a pretty wedding on Saturday afternoon, April 7 at the First Christian Church in Brighton with the church pastor performing the nuptials at four o'clock.
A reception followed in the church social room and afterward the couple left to honeymoon in Aspen and Colorado Springs before going to Chicago where both were recently transferred by United Airlines. Among the guests at the wedding and reception were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hutt and Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Bullard from the Wray community.

SUSANNAH

March 19, 1936 "Word has just been received here of the marriage of Miss Susannah McCoy, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude McCoy of near Vernon, to Mr. George Thiede of Como, Colo. The ceremony was performed August 15th in the Christian parsonage at Craig, Colo., by Rev. Marion C. Morris, who formerly lived at Bovina, Colo., where Mrs. Thiede taught school.
With the exception of the immediate families of the couple, Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Nolan of Denver, and Miss Mildred Dungan of Como, the marriage was kept a secret until recently.
Mrs. Thiede is well known in Yuma county. She attended the public schools here and later attended Colorado State College of Education at Greeley. Since then she has been employed as a grade teacher and is at present teaching the primary grades in Como.
Mr. Thiede, the only son of Edward Thiede of Central City, Colo., is practically a stranger here, although he made a number of friends here during his two short visits in this community. He is employed at the C. & S. round house in Como.
Mr. and Mrs. Thiede plan to make their home in Como."


Susanna M. McCoy Thiede 1907-1993 is buried in Wheat Ridge, Colorado # 97789505, with George E. Thiede 1905-1990.
