Baker and Lucinda Post, sons John Franklin Post and Willis Post, daughter Sarah Elizabeth Post Gates, sister Francis Post Daum, Laird

One tree said  John Post married Mary Ann, and then Elizabeth (Baker).  On Feb 2, 1835 in Hardin County Ohio, John Post married Mary Ann Crossan (Crofan?).  On Oct 17, 1839, John Post married Eliza Baker in Hardin County Ohio.

In 1850 Wyandot County, Ohio, in the household of David and Mary McCowin, John is 38, born in Pennsylvania, Eliza 27, Virginia, Elizabeth 10, Baker 7, and Mary 3, all three born in Ohio.

In 1860 Wyandot County, Ohio John Post 44, Eliza 38 - have Elisabeth 19, Baker 16, Mary J. 12, William 10, Lucina F. 5, and Francis L. . 2.  - John was born in "Va" and the birthplace of the others are blank - or may be ditto marks.

Possibly the John G. Post 1816-1867 buried in Saint Johns cemetery, St. Bernard, Ohio.

One tree said Elizabeth born Feb 2, 1841, married Josiah Jones May 5, 1864 in Ohio, and died in Ohio Aug 31, 1920.  There's a Jesse Jones 1845-1920 and Elizabeth 1840-1920 buried in the Grant, Hardin County, Ohio, cemetery.

Baker enlisted in Co H, 179th Ohio Infantry in 1864, married Sarah A. Jones June 28, 1868, married Lucinda C. Dugan September 5, 1874 in Hardin Ohio.

In 1885 Adams County, Nebraska Baker 41 is farming, Lucinda is 30, Baretta 15 ?, Sarah 17, Willis 9, Harry 8, Joseph 2, and Louisa two months.

One tree said Rosette , daughter of Baker and Sarah, married George Henry Gates in Adams County September 9, 1889, was in Akron in 1920, married John Stedham March 15, 1928, in Nelson Nebraska, died October 17, 1933 in Pauline Nebraska, and was buried in Akron.

 George Henry Gates, who has been a citizen of Washington County since 1915, and has made many friends here during that time by his friends and his neighborly conduct, went to his reward, at his home, fourteen miles south of Akron, on Monday March 14th 1927.
   George had been ill six days with flu, which developed into pneumonia.   George Henry Gates was born in Iowa, January 2, 1866 to Alfred Henry and Celina Gates both deceased.
   He was united in marriage to Sarah Elizabeth post at Hastings, Nebraska, Sept 9 1889. He came to Akron in 1915 and entered into the occupation as farmer, where he has since resided south of Akron. He has been a Modern Woodman for about 28 years. George died at the ageof 61 years, 2 months and 12 days.
   Funeral Services were held today (Thursday) at two o'clock at the Presbyterian church with the local modern Woodmen in charge. S. W. Keasey, delivered the sermon and Walter Gough, funeral Director.  
   George leaves a wife and five children: five children having preceded him. Those living are: four sons Frank, Henry, Two daughters Mrs. Minnie Davison, all of Akron, Charlie of Woodrow, and Melvin of Lyman Nebraska.
   This was one of the largest funerals held in Akron for some time.Neighbors and friends coming from far and near.
   Mesdames J. B. Fisher, F. P. Cooley, and James E. Harris constituted the choir, signing: "What a friend we have in Jesus", "Nearer to God to Thee", and "Rock of Ages". Mrs. J. E. Harris was at the piano.  The Pall Bearers were: Jack Newman, A. S. Edwards, E. E. Ball, Ed Dey, M. Higbotham and Clyde Bibbons. The earthy remains were laid to rest in the Akron Cemetery. The sorrowing family and relatives have the sympathy of the community in their loss.

10 children were born to this Union, only five living to adulthood.
The 10 children were: Frank Alva, Henry Alfred, Charles Leonard, Baby Gates, Minnie May, Melvin Roy, Ernest E., Howard C., Pearlie E. and Vernie L.
   George worked in Nebraska and a short time in 1895 in Oklahoma.  They lived near Pauline, Nebraska. George was a road overseer for district No. 50 in Nebraska. They then moved near Laird, Colorado to homestead and farm. They later sold the relinquishment and moved to the Meekton community in 1915, where they also engaged in
farming. A few year later he bought a place in Akron, Colorado, where he and Sarah lived for several years. While living in town George had a road crew and built roads with teams of horses and equipment. His sons were part of his crew. George farmed south of Akron. He was a horse trader, bronco buster and good with horses.


George's Yuma County claim was in the corners of 3,4, 9, and 10 of 1S 42W, in 1915, next to Frank A. Gates who proved up in 1915.  Frank, also buried in Akron, is Sarah's son, Baker's grandson.

In 1895 they're in Labette County Kansas - Baker 50, Lucinda 43, John 4, Willis 19, Harry 17, and Josepheus 13.

In 1900 Adams County Nebraska Baker 55 and Luzendy 46  have John 10, born in Nebraska.

All three are in Laird precinct in 1910.

Also in Adams County in 1900 are George H.39 and "Sarra" 29 Gates, with Frank A. 10, Henry A.7, Charles L. 3 and Minnie N. five months.

In 1910 Frontier County, Nebraska Frank A. and Margaret J. are both 19.  Frank registered in Henry Colorado, saying he was born May 27, 1890 in Salem, Missouri, was married with four children.

In 1920 Akron Frank and Margaret have Bennie I. 9, Bernard A.7, Basil A. 4, Brice A. 2, and Beula a. nine months.

In 1930 they have Bernice 19, Bernard 17, Basil 15, Brice 13, Beula 11, Blanch M. 8, and Beufard C. 5.

In 1940 Platner Frank and Margaret have Beulah 20, Blanche 18, Bereford 15, and Bruce A. 6.

She is survived by her three daughters - Barbara (Lane) McClellen of North Plattte; Margret (Larry) Thompson of Ewing, MO and Patricia (Norman) Crom of Tabor, IA. Her brother Bruce Gates of Brush, CO; sisters-in-law, Leota Gates of Cheyenne, WY & Mosselene Gates of Ft. Collins, CO. Her grandchildren - Judy McClellen of North Platte; Luana McClellen of Omaha, NE; Michael (Annette) McClellen of Papillion, NE and Melanie McClellen of North Platte: Mark (Tami) Thompson of Slayton, MN; Kurt (Lorie) Thompson of Apple Valley, MN; Tim Crom & Tom (Amber) Crom of Tabor, IA. Eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Luther on October 17, 2009; sisters & husbands - Bernice (Marvin) Green and Blanche (Sam) Baughman; brothers - Bernard & Basil Gates; brothers & wives - Brice (Margaret) Gates; Beuford (Myrtle) Gates; sister-in-law Ethel Gates and a grandson Steven McClellen.

Bernard A. Gates, 94, of Cheyenne died Oct. 9, 2007 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 11, 1912, in Yuma County, Colo., and had lived here since 1940.

Mr. Gates retired from the Union Pacific Railroad as a car inspector and had worked for Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

He was a member of the Red Dale Camper Club, Moose Lodge and Union Pacific Old Timer's.

Mr. Gates is survived by his wife, Leota, whom he married Nov. 19, 1936, in Akron, Colo  a son, Gene Gates of Commerce, Ga.; three brothers, Basil Gates of Fort Collins, Colo., Beufard Gates of North Platte, Neb., and Bruce Gates of Brush, Colo.; one sister, Beulah Bates of North Platte; eight grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Ann Gates Smith; parents, Frank and Margaret Gates; a brother, Brice Gates; two sisters, Berneise Green and Blanche Baughman; and a grandson.
 

1911 "Mr. and Mrs. H.N. Post and children of Lawrence, Nebraska, who have been visiting for some time with the former's brother, Baker Post of north of town, returned to their home Tuesday."

John Post married Lena Shrayer September 8, 1913.  "Justice of the Peace Fayette Lamphere performed the ceremony uniting John F. Post and Miss Lena May Shroyer of Alvin in marriage Monday morning."

Willis Post married Bessie Neal Feb 25, 1913.

"Born to Mr. and Mrs. Willis Post on December 30, 1913, a girl."

1914 "John Post went to Kansas last week to work in the harvest fields."

1914 "Mr. John Post recently purchased a house of Mr. Ring north of Alvin and moved it to his land twelve miles north of Wray."

1914 "C. Felt and wife spent Sunday at the Baker Post home.  Mr. Post has a fine piece of rye and his corn is the largest of any in the neighborhood."

John Franklin Post registered with a Laird address, born Dec 13, 1889 in Leanord ? Nebraska, farming by himself, with a wife and two children.

In 1920  Laird precinct John F. is 30, Lena M. 23, with Vera W. 5, Floyd 4, and six month old Wilber W.

In 1922 Baker, J.E. and Willis were all delinquent on taxes for land in 3N 43W.

Baker Post was to make final proof in 1923 for "Stock Raising Homestead Entry" in 15, 3N 43W.

In 1930 Laird precinct Joseph Post, 48 is single, farming and Baker, 85, is with him.  So are niece Lily M Post 16, nephew George 13, and niece Agnes 10, all born in Colorado. 

Baker Post, 1844-1933 is buried in Wray.  FindAGrave has spouse of Sarah A. Jones, children Rosetta Post) Kirk 1868-1933, Harry Nelson Post 1877-1956, and Lillie M. Post 1886-1889.

Willis is in Yuma County in 1910, 33, born in Ohio, single.

Willis proved up two quarters in 22, 3N 43W in 1916

He registered in Yuma County, saying he was born June 10, 1876, was farming, and nearest relative was Bessie Post of Wray.

Bessie Post 1887-1922 is buried in Wray.

Willis Post 1875-1927 is buried in Wray.

John Franklin Post -1889-1958 is buried in Wray, as is Lena M. 1896-1977, and daughter Esther Thelma (Post) Scheler April 7, 1923-March 2, 2007.

Rosetta (Post) Kirk Oct 28, 1868 - Oct 2, 1933 is buried in Oak Creek Cemetery, Webster County Nebraska.
