Dorothea (Reiske) Terrsy Schloddarick  Wray

One tree said Anna Dorothea Rieske was born Feb 26, 1860 in Bessarabia, Ukraine.
Anna's mother Louisa Elisabeth Hanaman 1825-1909 was born 1825 and one tree said she died Dec 12, 1909 in Jerusalem
It says she's buried in the Zios Church yard, Jerusalem

"Samuel Rieske... his family in the mid 1800's migrated from Germany, to Russia. Germany at that time was extremely war-torn, over-taxed and over-oppressed and when the Alexander the 1st was Tsar of Russia ( his mother was a German Princess) he carried out his grandmother's policy of immigration so that Germans could immigrate to Russia, his family did migrate to Russia where they did very well, but the Russian's did not like the Germans and they were persecuted and were not happy there. So when Samuel was only 8 years old his family migrated from Russia to Palestine. At that time there were many Germans who had migrated to Palestine, because they were Christians and believed in the 2nd coming of Christ and desired to be in Palestine when it occurred.
At that time there were several colonies of Germans living in Palestine, Samuel had some aunts and uncles already living there, in fact one uncle owned a travel agency and actually would host 30-40 guests at a time and give tours of the holy land, room, board and the tours were about 150$ per week.
My great, great grandfather Samuel was only 8 years old, when this migration from Russia to Palestine took place but they said he was very well educated...I'm guessing he was the only one that had the opportunity to attend school before moving from Russia...anyway they were ambitious people and not afraid to work hard, they started raising horses and Fredrick Samuel's older brother started a freight company, he carried mail on his wagon from Jerusalem to Jaffa, through the desert every night. When Samuel was old enough he worked for his brother delivering the mail, sometimes carrying money to the bank and occasionally he also carried the dead. One night he was traveling with a dead body on the wagon, it was super hot and he stopped to put cotton in his nose because the smell was so bad. When he was doing this he dropped his whip.. .he stoped the horses, jumped off his wagon to grab his whip out of the dust, and he found himself staring nose to nose with a wild hyena...he screamed and jumped back on the wagon, ran his horses the entire way, while an entire hyena pack was chasing him. Samuel also told of how dangerous the journey was, he would often see dead people that had been high jacked, robbed and murdered along the road....end of part 1. .and thanks for reading the first part of my pioneer story.
