Henry and Clara (Peters) Nau   Vernon



Heinrich Nau, age 4, arrived in New York on May 14, 1852, with Johann 34, Eva 40, Johann 16, Manger 10, and Jacob 6.

Henry Nau and Clara Peters married in Scott County, Iowa on January 22, 1875.

In 1880 Clackamas County, Oregon, Henry is a minister, 32, with Clara 33, both born in Germany. Clara is 3, Henry 2, both born in Iowa, and Elizabeth two months born in Oregon.

Heinrich Hermann Rudolf Nau, born Oct 12, 1878 in Winneshiek County, Iowa, died June 8, 1882 in Auburn County, Nebraska, per the COngregational Church record.

In 1885 Henry and Clara are in Nemaha County, Nebraska, with Clara 8, John 3, and Teresa newborn.
They said John and Teresa were born in Nebraska.

September 1901 Yuma, Colorado. "Rev. H. Nau and family arrived in Yuma one day last week and have taken up their residence in the McKean property."

October 1901 "Rev. Nau moved out to the Hoch ranch."

1902 Yuma, Colorado "Rev. Nau moved to Vernon Wednesday."

July 1903 "Rev. Nau's daughter of Vernon was taken to a Hospital at Denver Sunday night for medical treatment."
September 1903 Wray "Dr. McGill was in Pueblo several days this week assisting in an operation which is being performed on a daughter of the Rev. Nau of Vernon."

In September 1905 the Yuma County Commissioners paid $50 to St. Mary's Hospital for care of Miss Nau. This is likely the one in Pueblo.

November 1913 "Rev. and Mrs. H. Nau left Wray Monday afternoon, going for a visit with relatives in Red Cloud, Nebraska. Rev. and Mrs. Nau have been visiting their son, John Nau and family of south of Vernon since the month of May, Rev. Nau having retired from the ministry at that time."

Henry and Clara are living with son William in 1920 Nebraska, and Henry 1848-1928 is buried in Oakland, California # 181331839, with Clara 1847-1934 # 140065905.

March 22, 1928 "Funeral services will be held tomorrow in the Trinity evangelical enure n. tast uteenin street and Seventeenth avenue for Rev. 'Henry- Nau, It, a retired minister, who died at his home, 1407 Twenty-third avenue. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Rev Nan a native of Germany, had lived in California for the last four-years. His widow, Mrs. Clara B. Nau. two sons, John H. Nau, and Rev. William Nau, and two daughters, Mrs. Anna Clemens, and Mrs. Theresa A,- Morton, survive."

In Oakland, August 21, 1934, Clara B. Nau, widow of the late Rev. Henry Nau and loving mother of Mrs. Theresa A. Morton, Mrs. Anna D. Clemens, John H. and Rev. William G. Nau. A native of Germany, aged 87 years, 3 month's, 2 8 days. Friends are Invited to attend the funeral at the Grant D. Miller Mortuary, 2372 East 14th Street, OaklRnd, Friday, August 24, 1934, at 2:30 o'clock p. m. interment Evergreen Cemetery.

CLARA

Clara B. Nau and H.W. Bode married on July 15, 1896 in Osage County, Missouri.

In 1900 Pueblo, Colorado, Henry W. Bode is a grocer, born March 1874 in Germany, married four years to Clara B. June 1876 Iowa. They had Carl W. H. January 1898 in Missouri. Clara's brothe Jon Nau born Feb 1882 in Nebraska is a laborer, living with them.

Henry and Clara had Gertrude Marie on September 9, 1900 in Pueblo, died as Nearing on=in December 1978.

In 1910 Pueblo, Henry is a salesman, 36, Clara 32, Carl 12, Gerturde 9, and Harry 5.

ANNA

A.D. "Nan", 20 and P.S. Clemens 25, married in Pueblo Colorado on January 8, 1906.

In 1910 Pueblo Colorado, P. S. Clemens is 29, a streetcar motorman, 29, with Anna 24, married foru years.

In 1920 Oakland, Pete Clemens is 39. born in Missouri, Anna 35 in Nebraska, with three male roomers.

In 1930 Oakland, Peter 49 and Anna 44 have her mother Clara Nau 82 with them.

Anna D. Clemens 1885-1958 is buried in Oakland, California # 153992775, with Peter S. 1880-1964.

The California death index has her born June 22, 1885 in Nebraska, dying July 6, 1958.

THERESA

Theresa A. Morton 1883-1963 is buried in Oakland, California # 155510127.


WILLIAM

In 1920 York County, Nebraska, Henry, immigrating in 1873, and Clara in 1872 are livigng with son William G. 32 and his wife Rose 28. Edith is 6, Erma 3, and Walter five months.

1930 Yuma, Colorado

William died in Omaha on June 23, 1953, per one tree, buried in Council Bluffs, Iowa Cedar Lawn Cemetery.
He has a stone with Rose L. 1891-1930, # 74540832.
" The Rev. William G. Nau, 65, 500 Franklin Ave., died Tuesday in an Omaha hospital after an illness of several years.
He was born in New Ulm, Minn., and had been a resident of Council Bluffs two years. He was a retired Lutheran minister.
The Rev. Mr. Nau had held the following pastorates: Red Cloud, Neb., two years; Holstein, Neb., five years; York, Neb., 11 years; Tobias, Neb., 12 years, and Elk Creek, Neb., 10 years. District
Vice-president He was visitor [sic] of the South Nebraska District of the Missouri Synod for six years and synodical district vice-president 12 years. He was a graduate of St. Paul's College, Concordia, Mo., and the Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.
Survivors are: Widow, Rose, of Council Bluffs; four daughters, Mrs. Irma Beason of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Edith Heake of Tobias, Mrs. Clarice Fisher of Santa Anna, Calif., and Mrs. Maxine Winterheimer of Terra Haute, Ind.; one son, Walter, of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Clemens of Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Theresa Morton of Oakland, Calif., and six grandchildren."

Henry 1848-1928 # 181331839 and Clara 1847-1934 # 140065905 are buried in Oakland, California.

Clara Bertha Bode 1877-1923 is buried in Pueblo, Colorado # 111505074.
So is Henry W. Bode 1874-1938 # 123171872.

February 8, 1907 "One of the events of the week among the Germans was the wedding of John Nau and Louise Horstman on Wednesday, February 6, at the residence of the bride's parents, Mr. and. Mrs.Chris Horstman, near Vernon. The ceremony was performed promptly at 11 o'clock by Henry Nau, father of the groom, who now lives at Grand Island, Nebraska, but who for several years was pastor of the German Lutheran church at Vernon. The groom is the eldest son of Mr. Nau and has farmed for several years near Vernon, where he is known and highly spoken of by his acquaintances. The bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horstman and has a wide circle of friends and acquaintances who wish her much happiness on her matrimonial voyage. Mr. and Mrs. Nau have begun housekeeping on the place where the groom had been farming and in the spring they will move to a homestead which he has taken nearby. The young people who conducted the exercises that evening certainly had a time if all reports can be verified and they say they were royally treated by the young couple."
"There were six attendants; the Misses Helen Nau, Clara Nau and Emma Horstman, and Messrs Christian Horstman, Fred Horstmann. and Christ Witte. The little Misses Anna Nau and Matilda Horstman sisters of the bride and groom, were the flower girls."

1909 "Rev. Nau is visiting his son John, west of Vernon."

John H. Nau proved up 320 acres in sections 37 and 8, 2S 45W in 1912.

"A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Nau of Vernon precinct on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1913."
December 1915 " John Nau and wife took Christmas dinner with the latter's mother, Mrs. Mary Horstman."

"Dr. Worth reports the arrival of a baby boy at the homof Mr. and Mrs. John Nau, six miles north of Yuma, on Sunday, September 4, 1921."

1927 "Mrs. R. Stepp returned to her home at Golden, this sstate, Tuesday after a day's visit at the home of John Nau."

John Herman Nau 1882-1935 is buried in Yuma # 74060713.

August 1939

"John Henry Nau, son of John and Louise (Horstman) was born January 9, 1910 at Vernon. He died July 8 at the age of 77 years.
He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church February 27, 1910 at Vernon. John attended grade school at Vernon until 1921 when his parents and four brothers moved to Yuma. After finishing grade school at St. John's Lutheran School he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith April 27, 1924. He then farmed north of Yuma with his father and brothers.
John was united in marriage with Erna Frieda Bock at St. John's Lutheran Church on December 30, 1937 by Pastor August Oltroge. Three children blessed this home, a daughter and two sons.
John spent his entire life as a farmer. After retiring and moving in to Yuma. John helped his two sons with the farming as long as his health permitted. One of his greatest joys was driving to the farm to see how the crops were progressing. He especially enjoyed the golden wheat fields at harvest time.
Preceding John in death were his parents and three brothers, Louie, Earl, and Everett.
John leaves to mourn his death, his wife,Erna, one daughter and her husband, two sons and their wives, one brother Walter Nau and wife Gladyce, 12 grandchildren, also nieces and nephews and many neighbors and friends."

John Nau and Erma Bock married in Yuma County on December 30, 1937.

Louise D. (Horstman) Nau 1885-1951 is buried in Yuma # 74061257.



1987

February 1916 "Mr. and Mrs. Jose Nau departed Monday evening for their home at Byron, Nebraska, where they are to make their home. These young people were married last week at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Mary Horstinan, northwest of Vernon and they begin their married life with the best wishes of a large circle of friends in this county."

Jost F. H. Nau and Marie Horstman married in Yuma County Feb 16, 1916.

They moved to Byron, Nebraska, and then to Gurley, Nebraska, wher his parents Heinrich and Anna Nau lived.

In 1940 Denver, living on Tamarac, Jost is a carpenter, 51, with Marie 46, Warner 22, Richard 20, and Josephine 18.

Jost Fred Nau registered for WWII in Denver, born in Byron, Nebraska, living at 1459 Tamarac with wife Marie.

Jost Nau, born December 10, 1888, died in March 1971.

Marie Nau, born Nov 17, 1893, died in March 1977, last residence Arvada, Colorado.

Their daughter Josephine Anna Marie (Nau) Blehn 1922-2001 is buried in Fort Logan # 30014179, with Harold E. Blehm.
Werner Heinrich Nau, born 1918 in Nebraska died 23 Jan 2011 Bolivar, Polk, Missouri, Buried in Crown Hill Cemetery Wheatridge, CO


Werner Henry Nau, 92, of Bolivar, Missouri went to his Lord on Sunday, January 23, 2011 at 8:10 PM after a brief illness at Parkview Healthcare Facility in Bolivar, Missouri. He was born in Gurley, Nebraska on February 17, 1918, the son of Jost F. Nau and Marie Horstman Nau.
He grew up in Garden City, Kansas and moved to Burbank, California after graduating High School in 1937.
He met his life-long sweetheart Emma Schneider at a dance in Garden City, Kansas in 1937. Werner worked for Lockheed Aircraft building P-38’s. In August 1941, he married Emma in Denver, Colorado. To this union, three children were born. He continued working for Lockheed until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945.
In 1948 they relocated to Denver, Colorado, where he worked with his father building homes.
In 1956, Werner joined the US Postal Service where he worked as a mail carrier for 28 years.
Emma and Werner lived in Arvada, Colorado for 44 years until 2006, when they moved to Bolivar, Missouri, to live near their son Rick and wife Pat. They have been lovingly cared for by the staff of Butterfield and Parkview Care Centers in Bolivar.
Werner loved music, especially Lawrence Welk and the Gaither Vocal Band. He passed on that love to his children. He also enjoyed doing yard work and keeping his home and cars in tip-top shape. Bicycling was his passion and he rode almost daily until he was 88.
Werner is survived by his wife of 69 years, Emma; son Rick and his wife Patti of Aldrich, Missouri; son Stanley and his wife Janice of Saratoga Springs, Utah; and daughter Nancy Woodruff of Oroville, Washington; 5 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Visitation Thursday, February 3rd, 4-7 p.m., Funeral service Friday, February 4th at 12:00 noon interment following service,all at Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery.
Richard Alexander Nau, born in Nebraska Feb 22, 1920, died in San Diego County February 4, 1979.
He had married Kathleen Brinner on December 7, 1944.

"Kathleen Nau passed away at her residence at the Casa de Manana in La Jolla on December 27, 2014. She was born on July 18, 1923, in Bardstown, Kentucky, the sixth of ten children of John Brinner and Elizabeth Bogard, who christened her Kathleen Lee Brinner.
In 1945 she married Richard Alexander Nau of Denver, Colorado, who had served as a communications officer in the U.S. Army Field Artillery and participated in the Normandy Campaign during WWII. After the war they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, and then to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as Richard pursued a
career in aerospace engineering with the support of the G.I. Bill. They came to the San Diego area in 1952 when Richard took a position at the Convair Division of General Dynamics Corporation, where he worked until his death in 1979. They moved to La Jolla in 1958, where Kathleen remained until her death.
She was a devoted mother who made her home the center of activity for all the neighborhood children. She enjoyed tennis and bridge; she worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels; and for a time she also worked in real estate sales. Most of the last four years of her life were spent in the beautiful and loving surroundings of "The Casa", to whose staff we are profoundly grateful.
She is survived by her son, Robert Nau of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and his daughters, Amy and Rebecca; son, James Nau of Ramona, California, and his sons, Matthew and Alexander; and daughter, Carol Broad of La Jolla, California, and her children Bartholomew and Claire.
A private family memorial is planned. "
