In 1900 Bancroft, Nebraska, Tullie is 15 born in Illinois, with Oscar H. 49 and Josephine 39. Clifford A. is 9, and Willan W. is 5.
In 1910 Hitchcock County, Nebraska, Tulley is married to Elizabeth, renting a farm.
Tully U. Smith proved up a quarter in section 5, next to David, in 1916.
1915 Wray "Tully Smith has been hauling lumber for an addition to his house."
October 1915 "A deal was consumnuated last week in which J. U. Smith
became the owner of the George Wheeler place right south of the Champion Valley school house." This might be another Smith - Champion Valley was about ten miles south of Eckley.
1916 "The ladies of the O. O. C. Embroidery Club pleasantly entertained their husbands Thursday at the home of Mr. Tully Smith
. As usual, an elegant dinner was served, the ladies doing tatting, crocheting and embroidery, while the men amused themselves in various ways. The Club adjourned to meet with Mrs. L. R. Marshall next."
Tully Upton Smith registered for WWI with an Eckley address, born May 23, 1885, farming, nearest relative Lizzie Ellen Smith.

When he registered for WWII in Elbert County, he said he was born in Sheridan, Illinois.
1951 Douglas County, Colorado "Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Smith entertained at dinner Sunday of last week. The occasion was the birthday anniversaries of their daughter, Vlneda, Mr. Smith's father, Tully Smith of Aurora, and his brother, Oarle Smith of Colorado Springs. Other guests present were Mrs. Tully Smith and Mrs. Oarle Smith and family."
Tully 1884-1953 is buried in Elizabeth, Elbert County, # 27106368, with Lizzie E. 1880-1968 # 27107594.

Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday April, 30, 2007 , at United Methodist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Dennis H. Livingston officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth, Colorado. Survivors: Wife: Margaret of the home, 2 daughters: Peggy Alford and husband Steve of Ulysses, Kansas and Jacquline Pillsbury and husband Curtis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, 11 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren. Oarle J. Smith, age 93, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 29, 2007 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born May 18, 1913 in Eckley, Colorado the son of Tully and Elizabeth (Jones) Smith. Oarle obtained a masters degree from Denver University and graduated from the Monument Bible College as a Chaplain. He served in the Navy during World War II. Oarle was a junior high principal for 37 years in the Colorado Springs schools. He also coached football, basketball and wrestling. Oarle was an avid Broncos fan. He was a member of the National Education Association, Rotary and Gideon's. He attended the United Methodist Church in Ulysses for the last 7 years. He served for years on the board at Christian Center and as a president of the congregation of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Oarle liked to polish rocks, hike, fish and camp in the beautiful Colorado Mountains. He was an Inspiration and Godly example to his friends and family, as he was full of love for his God and others. Oarle was married to Margaret Wright for 65 years. They were married in Kiowa, Colorado. Oarle is preceded in death by his parents, son Dwight J, daughter Betty Fults and brother Vincent Smith. |
