Emma (Struchen) (Blank) Bishop , Eckley and Yuma


In 1885 Hitchcock County, Nebraska, "Marvin" and Emma Blank are farming, both 31. Fred is 10, Samuel 8, Irving 6, Reuben 4, and Susan 2.

Thanks to the Blank family for this Bible transcription "Melvin Joseph Blank died Friday morning February 17 1888 age 33 years 11 months 15 days."

In 1900 Washington County, Kansas, Emma J. born Nov 1855 in Illinois, is married twelve years to Jasper A. Bishop Dec 1862 Wisconsin. Orville J. is 8, Asa E. 5, and Asher R. 3. Susan M. Blank, stepdaughter of Jasper, is 17.

It looks as though Jasper is single in 1910, and in 1920 is married to Bertha, and is buried in Cedar County, Missouri 1862-1952 # 29700934.

Emma is divorced in 1910 Hitchcock County, Nebraska, 52, with son Samuel Blank, a liveryman, 33 Iowa, and Orville 18, Asa 15, and Asher 12 Bishop.

In 1920 Yuma, Emma is 64, widowed, and son Asher R. is a building laborer.

Emma is living alone in 1930 Yuma, 74.

She died in 1932, and is buried in Yuma # 48448383.

"Daughter of John Struchen/Strucken and Mary Ann Kasbeer.
Emma first married Melvin Joseph Blank, he died in 1888 at age 33 years leaving Emma with five children Fred, Irvin C., Samuel Allen, Reuben Wesley, Susanna Mary.
She later married Jasper Albert Bishop and they had four children, Orville Jasper, Alice, Asa Earl, Asher Robert."

Reuben and Millie had so many kids in Yuma County that there's a separate page for them.

February 1915 "Mrs. Bishop from Yuma spent a few days last week with her children, Mrs. J. B. Hillyer and Ruben Blank "

March 1915 Yuma "Mrs. J. B. Hillyer returned to her home in Eckley Wednesday, after a brief visit with her mother, Mrs. E. J. Bishop, and her brothers, Orville, Asa and Asher Bishop."

March 11, 1915 Eckley "J. B. Hillyer is building an addition to his house.


February 16, 1917 "Mrs. J.B. Hillyer came up from Eckley yesterday to visit her mother, Mrs. E. J. Bishop."

August 3, 1917 "Enid and Gerald Wilson, who had been visiting with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Hillyer, returned to their home in Denver on the noon train Saturday.

October 23, 1919 "Asher Bishop came in from Palisade, Nebraska, Sunday, at which place he and J.B. Hillyer are putting in an auto filling station."
December 1938 "A.E. Bishop and Sam Hillyer were called to Denver by the serious illness of their sister and mother, Ms. J.B. Hillyer.

December 1911 Eckley items "F. H. Blank arrived from Palisade, Nebr., last Sunday to spend Christmas with relatives." This is probably be Fred Henry Blank, born August 31, 1875, registering for WWI in Omaha, Nebaska, a fireman for an implement company. His nearest relative was Emma Bishop, mother, of Yuma Colorado.




January 26, 1912 Eckley "Asa Bishop went to Burlington Monday for a brief visit with his brother."

June 24, 1915 Eckley items "Sam Blank and Asa Bishop spent Monday evening of last week at the Guy Probasco home."

Samuel Blank 1877-1917 is buried in Yuma # 48448413.
March 8, 1917 Wray Rattler "The death of Sam Blank occurred Tuesday at the home of his mother, Mrs. Bishop in Yuma. Mr. Blank had made his home with his sister, Mrs. J. B. Hillyer of north of Eckley for the past two years, during which time he had been a sufferer from tuberculosis. We did not learn the particulars of the funeral or burial. "

April 1, 1915 Eckley "Reuben Blank and family spent Wednesday with his sister, Mrs. J. B. Hillyer."
July 25, 1935 Joes items. B. Hillyer came in on the bus from Washington, Kansas, last Thursday night and was met at Stratton by his grandson, John Scruby, Jr.. Mr. Hillyer will spend some time here with his daughter, Mrs. F. J. Scruby, and her family."
