In 1900 White County, Indiana, Leroy born August 1884 is a farm laborer with Monterville Maple 55, born in Illinois and Martha A. March 1847, married 37 years. Nora is 19, Leroy 15, Ray 13 and Glenn 10.
(Monterville 1843-1927 is buried in Cass County, Indiana # 34817602, with Martha A. (Lines) Maple 1847-1920 # 34817600.

In 1910 Yuma County, Roy is farming, single 25, born in Indiana.

December 28, 1911 Wray "Roy Maple of Laird came up here Saturday on business matters pertaining to the teachers association work."

Roy Maple married Grace State, daughter of William F. Stath and Mary Dewees, on June 25, 1913 in Newton County.

July 11, 1913 "Wm. Stath went to Monon, Sunday, and brought home Mr. and Mrs. Roy Maple."

Grace was in Newton County in 1900, born Febraury 1890 in Indiana, with William Stath Feb 1861 Germany, farming. Mary E. was born March 1869 in Indiana, Grace 10, Ettie M. Dec 1892, and Wilbur R. July 1897.
July 1913

Vernon items 1914 "Roy Maple and wife are spending their vacation at their home north of Laird. School will open on January 5."

May 4, 1916 "Prof. Maple closed another successful year of teaching at the Progressive Valley school. Prof. Maple is a successful teacher and is deserving of a better position than a rural school.
Mrs. Roy Maple spent last Thursday with Mrs. J. E. Shay."

Roy proved up 320 acres in sections 8 and 9, 2N 42W in 1916.

April 26, 1917 "Mrs. Maple was called to Indiana this week to the bedside of her father."

July 1917 Wray "Will Townsdon and Roy Maple made a trip to Concordia, Kansas, in Mr. Townsdon's Ford last week."

Grace (Stath) Maple 1890-1919 is buried in Newton County, Indiana # 49913859.
(Although the 1920 Census of Newton County has Grace, 29, with William and Mary, perhaps they included her even though she was deceased?)

Their daughter Iona Mae (Maple) Henderson born Nov 8, 1915 in Wray, died July 25, 2008 in Lodi, California, buried there # 158211156
" Her mother died in the flu epidemic of 1918. Married Roy Henderson in 1939 in Silver City, New Mexico."

March 28, 1919 Brook Indiana "Word came to her parents on Monday announcing the death of Mrs. Roy Maple at home in Kansas. No word had come prior to this of her being sick and the news of her death was a shock to relatives and friends. Mr. Maple is to be here with the remains about Thursday. Mrs. Grace Maple was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stath, and a few years ago was married and moved with her husband to Laird Colorado where tbey resided until a short time ago when they moved to Glasco, Kansas. No particulars concerning her death are available at this time She leaves a husband and little daughter besides father and mother and sister and brother to mourn her loss."
"Wm. Stath left for Glasco, Kansas, on Monday to assist in the funeral arrangement for his daughter, Mrs. Roy Maple."

April 4, 1919 Brook, Indiana "For the many acts of kirdness expressions cf sympathy over loss of wife, daughter, and sister, and for the beautiful floral offerings to her memory, we wish to express our heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbors. Roy Maple. Wm. Stath and family"

In 1920 Roy is in Cloud County, Kansas, farming, widowed, 36. Robert and Emily Hale both in their 30's are working for him.

August 1924 Yuma Pioneer "Roy Maple has been signed up as teacher for Center school for the coming year. He will live in the W.E. Helton house."

Roy married Ruby V. Bedford on Dec 17, 1927 in Phillips County, Colordo.

In 1930 Adams County, Colorado, Roy is a school principal, 45, Ruby 23 a teacher, and Iona 14.

October 1935 Heartstrong items in the Yuma Pioneer. "Frank Bedford of Bremerton, Washington, is here visiting his children, Ray Bedford and Mrs. Roy Maple."

Roy was a candidate for Yuma County school superintendent in 1938.

In 1940 Yuma County, Eckley precinct, Roy is 55, born in Indiana, with Ruby V. 33 in Kansas. Monte is 6, born in Colorado.

July 1946 Eckley "Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kimball and their daughter, Lyris of Bremerton, Washington, have been visiting at the Roy Maple home during the past week. Mr.s Kimball and Mrs. Maple are sisters."


August 1959 Brook, Indiana "Mr. and Mrs. Roy Maple and son of Colorado have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Stath and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Thayer recently. They also attended the Maple Family Reunion at Logansport Sunday. He is a brother-in-law."

July 1962 "Mrs. Roy Maple and Monte are in Seattle for two weeks attending the Worlds Fair and visiting her sister Eunice, and brother, Roy Bedford and family."

September 1965 "The Roy Maples and Mrs. Elizabeth Maple drove to Stratton, Nebraska? Sunday to visit at the home of MRs. Roy Maple's cousin and wife, the John Ellers."

Leroy Pern 'Roy' Maple 1884-1975 is buried in Eckley # 53005937,



On the same stone is Ruby (Bedford) Maple 1906-1983 # 53005938.


December 1937 Brook, Indiana "Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Thayer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Stath and family and Miss Iona Maple of Greeley, Colo., were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Stath of Brook on Christmas Day. "

1938 Brook, Indiana "Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stath of Brook and Miss Iona Maple of Colorado were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Thayer and family on Friday. Miss Maple left for her home in Colorado on Saturday."

January 1951 "Mr. and Mrs. Roy Henderson and three little daughters, from Lodi, California, have beeen spending vaation in COlorado, spending Chirstmas with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Maple and Monte. The two families took Christmas dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Oren Maple in Stratton, COlorado. The Hendersons will spend the remainder of their vacation with the parental side of the house, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Henderson in Yuma."

Monte is buried in Eckley # 145756705.

Monte D. Maple left this world for his heavenly home on February 4, 2014 at the Medical Center of the Rockies after a short illness. He was born to Roy and Ruby (Bedford) Maple on February 3, 1934 in Greeley, Colorado where his parents were teaching and advancing their college dreams. They returned to Yuma County and bought ground around Eckley where they raised cattle and taught school. Monte grew up on the farm, graduated from Eckley High School and attended Northeastern Junior College, where he studied agriculture.
During his adult life, his primary employment was ranching and farming. He supplemented his income as a salesman for Archer Oil.
On September 4, 1984, Monte married his beloved wife, Sylvia Ann Lucas in Ogden, Utah. They returned to Eckley where they made their home until retiring to Yuma in 2006.
Monte's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a devoted and active member of the Nazarene Church in Yuma and Wray. He was a very involved Gideon and loved passing out bibles to the children in schools.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Roy and Ruby Maple; sister and brother-in-law, Iona and Roy Henderson and sister-in-law, Diane Jewell.
Surviving Monte is his wife of 29 years; three nieces, one nephew and their spouses, two sisters-in-law, and many friends [survivors names omitted].
A memorial service to share God's word was held in memory of Monte on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Nazarene Church in Yuma, Colorado with Pastor Don Smith officiating. Baucke Funeral Home directed the service.--Baucke Funeral Home

In 1900 Frank Bedford, born Nov 1868, and Adella August 1873, both in Illinois, have been married six years. Frank R. May 1897 and Caroline P. Feb 1900 were born in Kansas.

May 15, 1913 "Mrs. Frank Bedford and father, J. V. Davis, were called to Alexandria, Nebr., by the death of the father's son-in-law at that place. Mrs. Bedford has returned home while Mr. Davis will stay an indefinite time."

July 1914 " Ruby Bedford is visiting her cousin, Mabel Sharp, for a few days.
Ray and Carrie Bedford spent Saturday and Sunday at the Rush Jones home."

April 1915 "Charley Davis visited with his brother-in-law, Frank Bedford, near Vernon, Saturday, his father, J. V. Davis, returning home with him for a visit."

May 1915 "C. B. Davis visited with his brother-in-law, Frank Bedford, near Vernon, Sunday.
C. B. Davis and the Jones boys broke horses while the snow was on."

March 1916

In 1918 Frank Bedford was president of Yuma County school District 99, near Vernon.

Mary Adella (Davis) Bedford 1873-1919 is buried in Vernon, Colorado # 80209698.

In 1920 Yuma County, Frank Bedford is farming, widowed, 57, born in Illinois, with Frank R. 22 Caroline P. 19, Eunice M. 17, and Ruby V. 13, all four born in Kansas. Velma M. 9 and Iva F. 4 were born in Colorado.

Frank 1870-1953 is buried in Bremerton, Washington # 43286046.


A humble but great man has left this world for a better place. Ronald Gene Bedford, 69, of Yakima, Washington, passed away suddenly on July 24, 2006.
He was born in Wray, Colorado, on August 27, 1936, to Raymond F. and Inez R. (Jones) Bedford. He was raised and educated in Bremerton, Washington, where he also met and then married the love of his life, Leora Kay Hallam, on September 2, 1956. Ron was owner and operator of two restaurants in Snohomish, Washington, from 1963 - 1974, where he and his wife raised their five children. Later he became an insurance agent in Everett, then sole proprietor of the Garrison/Bedford Insurance Agency in 1976, until he retired in 1998.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Inez Bedford; brother, Frank Bedford; sister, Mary (Bedford) Fisher; niece, Nancy (Fisher) Chelemedos; and nephew, Leonard Bedford.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Leora Kay Bedford; his children, Ray (Jane) Bedford of Fairbanks, Alaska, Lorene (Tim) Barrett of Selah, Washington, Cherri Brown of Renton, Washington, Terri (James) Skyles of Everett, and Rhonda (Larry) Bedford, of Burlington, Washington; grandchildren, Thomas Bedford, Amanda Bedford, Coleman (Jennifer) Larson, Jered Larson, Jessica Brown, Joshua Skyles, Kevin Skyles, Shawn Skyles, Travis Gilbert, Brian Gilbert, Craig Gilbert, Luke Tackett, and Toby Tackett; and great-grandchildren, Joshua Larson, Emma Larson, Alexis Harper, Austyn Bryant, Mariah Gilbert, and one more on the way; sister-in-law, Emily (Stan) Christianson; and nephews and nieces, Wayne (Alice) Fisher, Jeff (Veronica) Fisher, Cole (Kara-Lynn) Crocker-Bedford, and Diane (Lynn) Woomer.
Ronald, loving son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend has gone from us to be with our Lord and Savior. He gave of himself completely to raise and provide for his wife and five children and extended that love to his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives, as well as all the friends he made through the years, locally and at their winter home in Welton, Arizona, and his "man's best friends," Buddy and Dash (his beloved Boston terriers). We are forever grateful for his commitment and generosity.
